What “fully customizable” means in these games
In games, “fully customizable” is useful shorthand rather than a technical promise. You can usually alter a character’s face, body, hair, clothing or identity systems, but only within the game’s supplied assets and controls. A creator may let you push a nose, jaw or shoulder slider, choose from race-specific heads, assign traits and aspirations, or combine thousands of community-made images. It does not mean importing any 3D face or creating arbitrary anatomy.

That distinction matters when the alternative is a scanned celebrity protagonist. A fixed likeness gives you a recognizable lead with little control over identity. A modular scan pipeline is different: developers may scan actors or models, then reshape, combine and stylize those source assets into many selectable heads. The result can still be an original player character even though some underlying art began as a scan.

Dragon’s Dogma 2: the strongest sculpting-first choice
Two important characters, not one
Dragon’s Dogma 2 is the clearest fit if your first question is, “Can I shape the face and body myself?” The official PlayStation description says you customize both the Arisen, your player character, and the main Pawn, the companion who travels with you. That second slot is a major advantage: you are not merely decorating a hero while accepting a fixed party. You can design a matching partner, a deliberate contrast or a character built around a specific visual idea.

Its third-person presentation also makes the work visible during ordinary play. You see the Arisen while exploring, fighting and moving through settlements, and the Pawn remains a persistent part of the party. If visual authorship is the main reason you are avoiding a supplied likeness, this combination of detailed sculpting and regular on-screen visibility is unusually satisfying.
Use the standalone creator before committing to a save
The official Xbox listing documents a separate Character Creator & Storage utility. It lets you build characters outside the main game and transfer that data into the base title. This is useful for anyone who wants to iterate on proportions, facial structure or body type without spending the opening hours of a campaign testing presets. Save several versions, compare them in the creator’s lighting, then transfer the one that reads best at gameplay distance.
A practical workflow is to establish the silhouette first, then refine the face. Check height, shoulder width, torso length and limb proportions before spending time on eyes or makeup. After that, test the character from front, three-quarter and side views. A face that looks perfect head-on can appear very different during a moving, over-the-shoulder camera angle.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 still uses photo-scanned assets. That does not turn the Arisen into a fixed celebrity character. It means the game’s artists used scanned source material among the building blocks you manipulate. The relevant distinction is between a supplied identity you cannot replace and a modular asset system that lets you create your own combination. Choose this game for control over the final avatar, not for a claim that every polygon was modeled without scanning.

The Sims 4: customization that includes a life, not just a face
Physical presentation and behavior are connected
The Sims 4 is the best match when “my character” includes voice, mannerisms, ambitions and routines. Electronic Arts lists controls for voice, movement, body shape, aspirations, interests, traits, scars, hairstyles and accessories. That breadth lets you create someone recognizable in motion and in behavior, not merely a different head on the same body. EA’s own guide summarizes the design philosophy as “every Sim is an individual.”
Begin with the body and face, then use clothing, hair, scars and accessories to establish presentation. Voice and movement choices can change how the same outfit reads: a formal wardrobe paired with an energetic walk tells a different story from the identical clothes paired with reserved movement. Traits, interests and aspirations then provide the rules that make the identity matter during play.
Why it feels more personal than a conventional RPG creator
Most role-playing creators stop when you confirm the character. The Sims 4 keeps identity active through ordinary decisions: work, friendships, hobbies, home design and long-term goals. You can therefore make a character whose personality conflicts with their appearance, or one whose look, ambitions and habits all reinforce the same concept. This is the strongest option for players who want to author an everyday persona rather than a combat avatar.
The trade-off is that its flexibility is systemic rather than sculpting-focused. You work with supplied body meshes, facial controls, traits and clothing categories. It is broad and expressive, but it is not a promise that every anatomical detail can be edited independently.

Baldur’s Gate 3: modular fantasy identity inside a party RPG
Race and role are part of the character creator
Baldur’s Gate 3 suits players who want appearance choices to carry narrative and mechanical consequences. You choose a fantasy race and role, then select from available heads, hair, skin, markings and other presentation options. Race affects how the world addresses you and which abilities or dialogue possibilities are available, so customization is tied to role-playing context rather than isolated from it.
Larian Studios explained in 2020 that its photorealistic fantasy-race heads were based on 3D scans of actors and models, then transformed into approximately 150 unique heads. That number describes a large library of selectable, transformed heads; it does not mean the game gives you 150 celebrity protagonists. The heads function as modular starting points that you combine with other appearance choices.
Choose it when party identity matters more than freeform sculpting
The game’s camera and party structure encourage you to think about a group. Your custom protagonist stands beside companions with their own authored identities, and your race, class and appearance affect how the ensemble reads. If you want to sculpt every cheekbone, Dragon’s Dogma 2 offers more direct control. If you want a character whose ancestry, class and relationships define the story, Baldur’s Gate 3 makes those decisions more consequential.

Because the available heads are race-specific and developer-authored, there are boundaries. You are selecting and combining a curated fantasy vocabulary, not moving every vertex. That is still a substantial level of authorship, especially when clothing, color, markings and role choices are considered together.

Cyberpunk 2077: a customizable V with version-dependent options
Appearance evolves through updates
Cyberpunk 2077 gives you control over V’s appearance and frames that character through a chosen lifepath. CD Projekt Red’s Update 2.2 announcement, dated December 10, 2024, lists additional character-customization options and specifically names a “Plain-to-Punk slider.” Treat those details as version-sensitive: update contents can differ by platform, installed build or later revisions, so check the current patch notes before assuming a particular control is present.
The lifepath choice adds identity beyond the face. It establishes a background and opening context, while the creator handles physical presentation. This combination works well if you want an original character embedded in a strong authored setting rather than a blank avatar with no history.
First-person visibility changes the value of appearance
Cyberpunk 2077 is primarily first-person. You see V in mirrors, menus, photo mode and selected cinematic moments, but not continuously from an over-the-shoulder camera. That makes customization meaningful in a different way: you are designing the person represented by dialogue, gear and narrative choices, even when the body is not always on screen. Choose it if identity and role-playing agency matter more than watching your sculpted face during every fight.
WWE 2K26: build a wrestler and share the result
Morphing tools are aimed at recognizable performers
WWE 2K26 is relevant for players who want to create an original wrestler rather than control only licensed talent. The 2K announcement describes deeper body and face morphing tools, allowing you to push a created performer toward a particular build, facial structure or ring persona. Its Community Creations feature is designed for exchanging creations, so the character can become part of a larger shared roster instead of remaining in one save.

Check the edition and platform before relying on capacity claims
The same announcement says Community Creations has a doubled image capacity of 2,000. That is an edition-era feature claim, not a universal guarantee for every platform or future update. Verify the release version, supported platform and current storage limits at purchase time. The game is the right choice when sharing, entrances, gear and match presentation are as important as facial sculpting; it is less suitable if you want a story RPG built around exploration and dialogue.
How to choose among them
Choose by the control you will notice most
- Face and body precision: Start with Dragon’s Dogma 2, then consider WWE 2K26 if a wrestler-focused sandbox appeals to you.
- Personality and daily life: Choose The Sims 4, whose traits, aspirations, interests, voice and movement remain active throughout play.
- Race, class and party storytelling: Choose Baldur’s Gate 3, where appearance is part of a larger fantasy identity.
- Modern setting and lifepath: Choose Cyberpunk 2077 if you want a customizable V inside a strongly authored science-fiction world.
Consider how often you will see the avatar
Third-person games display your work constantly, which makes proportion and silhouette especially important. First-person games put more weight on the character’s voice, choices, clothing glimpses and narrative framing. The Sims 4 sits between those models: you see the Sim frequently, but the identity is expressed just as much through autonomous behavior and social situations.
Separate creator scope from asset origin
Ask two different questions before buying: “Can I make a character that feels like mine?” and “Were any source assets scanned?” Dragon’s Dogma 2 and Baldur’s Gate 3 demonstrate why these are not opposites. Scanned source material can be transformed into many player choices. A game can therefore offer meaningful original-avatar authorship without being scan-free.

A reliable character-creation workflow
- Define the brief. Write down the character’s approximate age, body type, presentation, personality and role before opening the sliders. This prevents endless tweaking without a clear target.
- Set the silhouette. Adjust height, build, shoulders, torso and limb proportions first. Confirm that the overall shape reads correctly at normal gameplay distance.
- Refine the face from multiple angles. Check front, profile and three-quarter views, then test neutral and expressive poses where the game supports them.
- Use hair, clothing and accessories to reinforce identity. These elements often remain more visible than small facial details during play.
- Add behavioral choices. In The Sims 4, assign traits, aspirations, interests, voice and movement. In Baldur’s Gate 3, connect appearance to race and class. In Cyberpunk 2077, choose a lifepath that supports the character concept.
- Save versions before confirming. Dragon’s Dogma 2’s separate creator is particularly useful for storing alternatives. In games without that utility, capture reference screenshots before leaving the creator.
- Recheck after the first playable scene. Lighting, animation and camera distance can reveal issues hidden in the creator. If the game allows later editing, make corrections then; otherwise keep the version that looks best in motion.
Common mistakes and how to avoid them
- Expecting unlimited geometry: Every title here uses constraints. Judge the range of the supplied tools instead of expecting an unrestricted 3D editor.
- Confusing scans with fixed likenesses: A scanned head used as a selectable component is not the same as forcing you to play a named celebrity.
- Ignoring camera perspective: A beautiful face matters differently in a first-person game than in a third-person one.
- Overlooking identity systems: Traits, aspirations, race, class and lifepath can define a character more strongly than a small slider adjustment.
- Assuming update features never change: Cyberpunk 2077’s creator additions and WWE 2K26’s sharing limits are tied to specific update or edition information. Confirm the current build and platform.
The practical verdict
For the most hands-on sculpting, choose Dragon’s Dogma 2 and use its creator for both the Arisen and Pawn. For a complete persona expressed through appearance and behavior, choose The Sims 4. For a fantasy party RPG where race and role shape the character, choose Baldur’s Gate 3. Cyberpunk 2077 is the fit for a customizable first-person protagonist with lifepath framing, while WWE 2K26 targets players who want to morph, equip and share an original wrestler. All five let you replace a fixed supplied identity with a character assembled from your own decisions, even though none removes the boundaries of a developer-made system.
