Verizon says its iPhone Handoff service will cost $10 per month, allowing one Verizon phone number to be shared between two compatible iPhones running iOS 27. That is twice T-Mobile’s reported $5 monthly price. Verizon has not announced a firm activation date, describing the feature only as “coming soon.”
What Verizon iPhone Handoff does
Handoff is a carrier service for people who use two iPhones but want to keep one Verizon number. Verizon’s example pairs the pocketable iPhone Duo with an iPhone 18 Pro: the smaller phone can be used while traveling, while the Pro serves as a work device.

The number is transferred between the two phones rather than operated independently. Verizon says customers can switch the active status between devices at any time while retaining access to its 5G network. Only one iPhone can be active at a time.

How much Verizon Handoff costs
The announced Handoff charge is a recurring $10 per month for compatible iPhones running iOS 27. This is an additional service charge, not the total cost of owning two phones. Verizon plan charges, taxes, device financing and any promotional terms remain separate.
#1 Best Overall
- This phone is unlocked and compatible with any carrier of choice on GSM and CDMA networks (e.g. AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon, US Cellular, Cricket, Metro, Tracfone, Mint Mobile, etc.).
- Please check with your carrier to verify compatibility.
- When you receive the phone, insert a SIM card from a compatible carrier. Then, turn it on, connect to Wi-Fi, and follow the on screen prompts to activate service.
- The device does not come with headphones or a SIM card. It does include a generic (Mfi certified) charger and charging cable.
- Tested for battery health and guaranteed to have a minimum battery capacity of 80%.
Verizon’s announcement also mentions offers such as iPhone Duo financing and iPhone 18 Pro bill credits, but those offers have their own eligibility and term requirements. They do not eliminate the separate Handoff charge.
How Verizon compares with other carriers
| Carrier | Reported monthly price | Plan inclusion | Software and device details | Active-device behavior | Availability |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Verizon | $10 per month | Not stated; announced as a separate recurring charge | Compatible iPhones running iOS 27; Verizon names iPhone Duo and iPhone 18 Pro | One iPhone active at a time | Coming soon; no firm date announced |
| T-Mobile | $5 per month, as reported by MacRumors and 9to5Mac | Not stated | Not stated in the cited reports | Not established in the cited reports | Not stated |
| Deutsche Telekom | €6.95 per month | May be included in eligible MagentaMobil plans | Not stated | Not stated | Not stated |
| EE | £5 per month outside Full Works Plus | Included at no extra charge with Full Works Plus | Not stated | Not stated | Not stated |
On the reported US prices, Verizon’s $10 fee is exactly twice T-Mobile’s $5 fee. The comparison is limited to the monthly Handoff charge; it does not compare phone prices, taxes, wireless plans or promotional credits.

Can one number work on an iPhone Duo and iPhone 18 Pro?
Yes, that is the specific pairing Verizon uses in its announcement. Both phones must be compatible models running iOS 27, but Verizon has not published a complete compatibility list. The announcement confirms the named devices rather than establishing that every iPhone capable of running iOS 27 will qualify.

Can both iPhones ring at the same time?
Verizon’s published description says active status can be switched between devices and that only one iPhone is active at any moment. It does not establish that both phones can ring simultaneously. Readers who need both devices reachable at once should wait for Verizon’s final service documentation rather than assume Handoff works like simultaneous multi-device calling.
When will Verizon Handoff launch?
Verizon currently says Handoff is “coming soon.” Neither the announcement nor the cited coverage supplies an exact activation date. Until Verizon publishes a launch date and enrollment instructions, customers cannot reliably determine when the $10 add-on can be ordered.
What the $10 fee does not include
- The purchase price or financing cost of either iPhone.
- The underlying Verizon wireless plan.
- Taxes and regulatory charges.
- Eligibility-dependent bill credits or other promotions.
- A published one-time activation fee or prorating policy; neither has been stated.
The practical trade-off is straightforward: Handoff can avoid managing separate numbers for a travel phone and a work phone, but Verizon’s recurring fee is higher than the reported equivalent from T-Mobile. The service’s final compatibility list, launch date and detailed billing rules are still pending.
