That is a framework, not a promise that either stock will outperform. A defensible yield comparison still requires each company’s latest declared per-share dividend and both share prices from the same date. The available company filings do not establish that comparison for T-Mobile in 2026.
Verizon and T-Mobile at a glance
The two wireless carriers can both return cash to shareholders, but they communicate and structure those returns differently. Verizon has a long, explicitly documented sequence of annual dividend increases and reports a much larger absolute cash dividend outlay. T-Mobile’s 2025 filing describes dividends as one component of a broader program that also includes share repurchases, network construction, spectrum deployment and other strategic investment.

|---|---|---|---|
| Established dividend record | The 2026 Form 10-K says the quarterly dividend rose to $0.6900 in the third quarter of 2025, the nineteenth consecutive annual increase at that point. A June 2026 declaration was $0.7075 per share quarterly and described 20 consecutive years of increases. | The 2025 Form 10-K reports $4.1 billion in cash dividends paid during 2025, but the available material does not establish a comparable 2026 declaration or an equivalent long increase streak. | Verizon has the stronger documented income history. |
| Cash dividends paid | $11.5 billion in 2025, according to Verizon’s 2026 Form 10-K. | $4.1 billion in 2025, according to T-Mobile’s 2025 Form 10-K. | These are company totals, not per-share yields. They cannot by themselves show which stock pays more to a particular investor. |
| Shareholder-return program | Management discussed the dividend, balance-sheet strength and up to $25 billion of repurchases over three years, including at least $3 billion expected in 2026. | A December 2025 authorization permits up to $14.6 billion in 2026 stockholder returns, combining repurchases and dividends subject to board discretion. | Repurchases are not a scheduled cash payment to each shareholder. |
| Recent operating evidence available | Second-quarter 2026 adjusted EPS rose 6.6% year over year; first-half free cash flow was $10.2 billion, up 16%. | The available source is the 2025 Form 10-K rather than a like-for-like 2026 quarterly release. | Verizon has the more current operating snapshot in the retrieved material, but that is not proof of superior long-term growth. |
Because the source dates and reporting periods differ, this is not a current-quarter contest. Treat Verizon’s 2026 numbers as a snapshot of reported results and guidance, and T-Mobile’s figures as evidence from its 2025 annual filing.
How to compare the stocks without confusing income and growth
1. Start with the declared dividend, not a headline yield
A dividend yield is calculated as annualized declared dividend per share divided by the share price. The price changes every trading day, while a board declaration changes only when the company announces a new amount. Multiplying a quarterly payment by four is a useful annualized convention, but it is not a promise that the board will maintain that rate.

For Verizon, the June 4, 2026 announcement declared $0.7075 per share quarterly, payable August 3, 2026. The announcement called this a twentieth consecutive year of increases. It should not automatically be described as the latest declaration at publication: a later board action would supersede it.
The available T-Mobile material does not provide a comparable 2026 quarterly declaration. Do not fill that gap with an estimate or rank the two companies by yield until the latest T-Mobile payment and a same-date price are verified.
2. Test the dividend against cash generation and obligations
Cash paid in dividends is only one use of operating cash. A carrier must also fund spectrum, radio access equipment, fiber and backhaul, stores, information technology, integration work, interest and debt maturities. A dividend can look attractive while leaving little flexibility for those requirements.
Use the company’s cash-flow statement and debt disclosures to ask:
- How much free cash flow was generated after capital expenditure?
- How much cash was paid in dividends and repurchases?
- What debt balance and leverage ratio remain after those payments?
- Are network and spectrum investments rising, falling or merely being deferred?
- Does management describe the dividend as a priority while acknowledging conditions that could constrain it?
3. Separate historical results from management guidance
Reported revenue, earnings and free cash flow describe a completed period. Guidance describes management’s expectations and can be missed. Verizon’s 2026 adjusted EPS and free-cash-flow ranges are therefore useful for scenario planning, not realized performance. The available evidence does not include a comparable current T-Mobile full-year outlook.
4. Count repurchases differently from dividends
A dividend sends cash to shareholders who own shares on the relevant record date. A repurchase uses company cash to buy shares, reducing the share count if the authorization is executed. An investor receives no scheduled payment merely because a repurchase program exists. Repurchases can improve per-share results when bought at sensible prices, but they can also consume cash that might otherwise strengthen the balance sheet or support the dividend.

Verizon: why it is the stronger income candidate
A long, documented increase record
Verizon’s 2026 Form 10-K says the board increased the quarterly dividend to $0.6900 in the third quarter of 2025 from $0.6775. That was the nineteenth consecutive annual increase at the time of the filing. The company’s June 2026 declaration of $0.7075 per share described 20 consecutive years of increases.

The same annual filing reports $11.5 billion of cash dividends paid during 2025. That figure demonstrates the scale of Verizon’s commitment, but it is not a yield and should not be compared directly with an individual investor’s expected return.
How management says it sets the dividend
The annual filing says the board periodically evaluates dividend levels in light of long-term growth opportunities, internal cash needs and shareholder expectations. That language matters: a long record does not eliminate the need to fund the network or service debt, and it is not a contractual guarantee of another increase.
Verizon CEO Dan Schulman called the commitment “ironclad” in the June 4, 2026 dividend release. That is management’s statement of intent, not an independent assessment of safety. The practical test remains the company’s recurring cash generation after required investment and financing costs.
Cash flow, leverage and required investment
Verizon reported $10.2 billion of first-half 2026 free cash flow, up 16% year over year. At the end of the second quarter, it reported $128.7 billion of net unsecured debt and a 2.5-times ratio of net unsecured debt to adjusted EBITDA.

Those are plans and targets, so an investor should compare later filings with the actual spending and deleveraging achieved.

Repurchases add a second return channel
Verizon authorized up to $25 billion of share repurchases over three years, with at least $3 billion expected in 2026 according to the January 2026 call. The authorization can increase total capital returned, but it does not replace the need to evaluate the recurring dividend. A repurchase can be paused, reduced or executed at prices that turn out to be unattractive.
Verizon: what the recent growth figures do and do not say
Verizon’s July 24, 2026 second-quarter release reported the following company-adjusted measures:
| Measure | Reported figure | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|
| Mobility and broadband service revenue | Approximately $23.4 billion, up 2.8% year over year | Shows service-revenue growth for the quarter, not total shareholder return. |
| Adjusted EBITDA | $13.7 billion, up 7.2% year over year | Adjusted is a non-GAAP measure; review the reconciliation in the company release. |
| Adjusted EPS | $1.30, up 6.6% year over year | A reported quarterly result, but adjusted rather than GAAP EPS. |
| First-half free cash flow | $10.2 billion, up 16% year over year | Supports the cash-generation analysis, while still requiring comparison with dividends, capex and debt needs. |
| 2026 adjusted EPS growth guidance | 6%–7% | Forward-looking management guidance, not a realized result. |
| 2026 free-cash-flow growth guidance | 9%–10% | Forward-looking management guidance, not a realized result. |
The figures give Verizon a credible near-term improvement story alongside its income profile. They do not prove that growth will continue at those rates or that the dividend is risk-free. Schulman also cautioned that the company’s transformation “will take time” and “won’t always be a straight line.”
T-Mobile: how to read its dividend and capital-return plan
The disclosed dividend amount is smaller in absolute terms
T-Mobile’s 2025 Form 10-K reports $4.1 billion of cash dividends paid during 2025. The number is useful for understanding the company’s aggregate distribution, but it cannot establish a higher or lower yield than Verizon without each company’s share count, per-share declaration and same-date market price.
A broader 2026 authorization
The filing says the board authorized up to $14.6 billion in 2026 stockholder returns. The program can include both share repurchases and cash dividends. Declarations remain subject to board discretion and applicable legal and financial considerations.
That wording is important for an income investor. The $14.6 billion is a maximum authorization for a combined program, not a promise that the entire amount will be paid as dividends. The eventual mix may favor repurchases, dividends, network investment or other uses of capital.

Investment needs compete with distributions
T-Mobile’s filing describes capital requirements from spectrum deployment, network construction and upgrades, integration and information-technology investment. Those needs can create attractive long-term growth opportunities, but they also compete for cash with shareholder returns. Review actual capital spending and free cash flow in each new filing rather than treating the authorization as evidence that all obligations are comfortably covered.

The available T-Mobile evidence is primarily its 2025 Form 10-K. It explains the company’s capital allocation framework and investment requirements but does not provide a comparable second-quarter 2026 operating release or a current full-year outlook in the material available here.
For a growth thesis, an investor should therefore seek the next investor-relations updates and examine customer additions, service revenue, profitability, free cash flow, capital expenditure, spectrum deployment and leverage. The key question is not simply whether T-Mobile pays a dividend; it is whether reinvestment produces durable operating gains while leaving room for disciplined shareholder returns.
That makes T-Mobile potentially more suitable for an investor who accepts a less established income profile in exchange for emphasizing business expansion and total-return potential. It does not establish that T-Mobile will outperform Verizon, nor does the absence of a current comparable outlook count as a negative result by itself.

Choose Verizon when the payment record is the priority
- You want a clearly documented sequence of annual dividend increases.
- You value a board communication centered explicitly on the dividend as a shareholder-return priority.
- You are willing to monitor substantial debt, ongoing network spending and the company’s leverage targets rather than treating the dividend as automatically safe.
- You prefer to begin with a cash-income thesis and then evaluate whether moderate earnings and free-cash-flow growth can support it.
Verizon is the more straightforward starting point for dividend-income research because its filing history and declared payments provide more evidence of an established policy.

- You are comfortable with dividends being one part of a combined repurchase-and-dividend program.
- You want to evaluate network, spectrum and customer-growth execution over a longer horizon.
- You can tolerate an unresolved current-yield comparison until the latest declaration and price are verified.
- You will judge the $14.6 billion authorization as a ceiling, not as promised dividend income.
Use a blended approach only after defining the job of each holding
Owning both can separate objectives: one position may provide a more established cash-distribution record while the other supplies exposure to a different capital-allocation and growth profile. Diversification does not remove industry risks. Both businesses depend on expensive networks, competitive pricing, spectrum and continued access to financing.

How to verify the comparison before buying
- Open each company’s latest investor-relations dividend announcement. Record the declared per-share amount, declaration date, ex-dividend date, record date and payment date. Do not rely on an old annual-report figure if a later board action exists.
- Capture both closing share prices from the same trading date. A yield calculated with Verizon’s price from one date and T-Mobile’s price from another is not a valid comparison.
- Annualize the declared payment carefully. For a quarterly dividend, multiply the current quarterly amount by four unless the company specifies a different schedule. Label the result as an annualized yield, not a guaranteed forward return.
- Divide annualized dividend per share by the same-date share price. Keep the calculation separate from any trailing yield shown by a data provider, because providers can use different periods or stale declarations.
- Read the latest cash-flow statement. Compare free cash flow after capital expenditure with dividends paid, repurchases, interest and debt maturities.
- Check leverage and investment commitments. Note net debt, adjusted EBITDA, spectrum purchases, network construction and management’s target ranges.
- Separate results from forecasts. Put reported EPS and free cash flow in one column and guidance in another. Mark all adjusted figures as non-GAAP where the company does so.
- Decide what would change your thesis. Examples include a falling coverage margin, leverage above the stated target, weaker service revenue, reduced network investment or a dividend declaration that differs materially from your assumption.
Common mistakes in the Verizon-versus-T-Mobile debate
Mistake: declaring a winner from yield alone
A high yield can result from a large dividend, a falling share price or both. Without same-date prices and current declarations, the yield ranking is unresolved.
Mistake: treating a long increase streak as a guarantee
Verizon’s 20-year description is valuable evidence of policy consistency, not a promise of perpetual increases. The board still weighs cash needs, growth opportunities and financial conditions.
Mistake: calling an authorization a payment
T-Mobile’s $14.6 billion program combines possible dividends and repurchases. Verizon’s $25 billion authorization likewise describes potential repurchases over three years. Neither authorization tells an individual shareholder exactly how much cash will arrive.
Mistake: presenting guidance as if it already happened
Verizon’s 6%–7% adjusted EPS growth and 9%–10% free-cash-flow growth ranges are management forecasts. They belong in a forward-looking scenario, not in a table of realized performance.
Mistake: forcing a like-for-like quarter comparison
Verizon’s available operating figures are from the second quarter of 2026. The strongest available T-Mobile source is its 2025 Form 10-K. Wait for comparable reporting periods before drawing conclusions about which business is currently growing faster.
Bottom line for the income-or-growth decision
Verizon is the better-supported dividend-income candidate: it reports a long annual increase record, a $0.7075 quarterly declaration announced in June 2026 and $11.5 billion of cash dividends paid in 2025. Its recent results also show adjusted EPS and free-cash-flow growth, although its $128.7 billion net unsecured debt, 2.5-times leverage ratio and large network spending requirements remain part of the risk assessment.
T-Mobile is better viewed as a capital-allocation and growth question rather than a proven high-income substitute. It paid $4.1 billion in 2025 dividends and authorized up to $14.6 billion of combined 2026 dividends and repurchases, while continuing to fund spectrum, network and technology investment. The available evidence does not establish its latest 2026 dividend, current full-year outlook or same-date yield against Verizon.

If your first requirement is dependable, established cash distributions, begin with Verizon and test coverage and leverage. If your first requirement is growth potential and you accept less certainty about current income, investigate T-Mobile’s next operating disclosures and the returns generated by its investment program. In either case, calculate the yield only after verifying current declarations and prices on the same date.
