What is in the Steam demo
The official Steam announcement dated October 8, 2026 gives the clearest boundary for what can be played now. It lists two playable Vaultbreakers, Nymera and Bjornir; an upgradable haven and perks; part of the first map, Wolfswood; quests extending to the first Vaultbreak; and co-op with up to two friends.

The demo is therefore useful for judging the camera, fantasy atmosphere, early quest flow and whether your group enjoys the extraction premise. It is not evidence that the final game will contain the same amount of content, the same balance or the same player limit.
Development status and timing
The official site says, “We aim to release Vaultbreakers in 2027.” The word “aim” matters: it describes a developer target, not a guaranteed launch date. The site also says the team is focusing on PC and consoles and currently plans a premium launch, while explicitly allowing that the business model could change.
The Steam announcement scheduled an Alpha Test for October 15–21, 2026 CEST. Those dates had passed by October 17, 2026 only in part, and an announcement of scheduled dates does not prove that the test was still accepting players or that it remained accessible. Check the current official announcement and Steam page before treating the alpha as available.

Deep Rock Galactic is a first-person co-op FPS about dwarven miners working through procedurally generated caves. The cited Steam listing describes mining minerals and fighting alien enemies, with one-to-four-player co-op. Choose Deep Rock Galactic for first-person cave work
Deep Rock Galactic puts the group inside the cave in first person. Mining and combat are the explicit pillars, and the caves are procedurally generated. This suits players who want direct shooter controls, a science-fiction setting and a cooperative job that can be repeated with different cave layouts.
The choice is less about which game has “more action” and more about what action your group wants to repeat. If everyone is excited by extraction decisions, fantasy abilities and collecting materials, Vaultbreakers is the closer fit. If everyone wants to aim, move through underground spaces and fight alien enemies while gathering minerals, Deep Rock Galactic is the clearer match.

Both games can fit a small party according to the cited material, but the evidence is different. Vaultbreakers’ demo announcement explicitly supports up to two friends, giving a three-player total.
