Where to get the Vaultbreakers demo
The official download is the Vaultbreakers Demo listing on Steam. It is listed as free, and the Steam Community announcement dated October 8, 2026 says the demo is available to everyone from the Steam Store. You do not need a separate key or an invitation to start the public download.

Use the store listing rather than an unofficial download mirror. The listing is the place where Steam publishes the current installer, system requirements, availability information, and any changes to the demo.
What you need before starting
- A Steam account that can sign in to the Steam client.
- A Windows PC that meets at least the minimum specification in the table below.
- At least 10 GB of free storage on the drive where Steam will install the demo. Leave additional working space if your drive is nearly full.
- A broadband internet connection. The Steam listing includes broadband internet as a requirement for both specification tiers.
How to download and install Vaultbreakers Demo on Steam
Steam’s public listing documents the store action and the requirement to follow the client’s prompt, but it does not document every dialog that can appear on every Steam client version. The labels or confirmation screens may therefore differ slightly from the sequence below.

- Open the official listing. Go directly to https://store.steampowered.com/app/4488770/ in a browser, or search for “Vaultbreakers Demo” in the Steam client and confirm that the app page is the official demo listing.
- Sign in to Steam. If the page opens in a browser, Steam may ask you to sign in or hand the request to the installed Steam client. Complete the normal account prompt; the demo itself is listed at no charge.
- Select the demo installation action. On the listing, Steam displays a Play Demo or Install Demo action. Choose that button. If Steam offers to open the desktop client, accept the handoff so the client can manage the download.
- Choose the library location when Steam asks. Select a Steam library on a drive with at least 10 GB free, then accept Steam’s installation prompt. The exact library and confirmation dialog depend on the Steam client and the libraries configured on your PC.
- Wait for the download and installation to finish. Monitor the Steam Downloads view for progress. Do not launch until Steam reports that the installation is complete.
- Launch from your Library. Open the Steam Library, select Vaultbreakers Demo, and use the launch button. If Steam shows a first-run prompt, use the default option unless you have a specific reason to change it.
If the browser button does not open Steam, start the Steam client first, sign in, and search the client for the same demo listing. Avoid downloading executable files offered by unrelated pages; the official listing is the supported distribution route.
Vaultbreakers Demo PC requirements
The following values are the requirements shown on the primary English Steam rendering examined for this guide. They are published specifications, not a guarantee of a particular frame rate or image quality. Steam can change them, so compare your hardware with the live listing immediately before installation.

The DirectX requirement needs live verification
An important inconsistency appears in Steam’s own rendered results: the primary English result shows DirectX 12, while another Steam rendering shows DirectX 11. Because those values conflict, do not treat either version as independently confirmed beyond the wording above. Before installing, open the current English Steam listing and use the DirectX value displayed there. If your graphics driver or operating system cannot support the value shown on the live page, update the driver or consult your hardware manufacturer before attempting to launch.
How to interpret the CPU and RAM numbers
The minimum processor entry specifies four cores running at 3.2 GHz, while the recommended entry specifies eight cores at 3.6 GHz. Clock speed alone does not establish that two different processor models will perform identically; architecture and generation also matter. Treat the figures as the thresholds Steam publishes, not as a benchmark comparison between every processor on the market.
The memory gap is explicit: 12 GB RAM is the minimum and 16 GB is recommended. On a PC that is close to the minimum, close background applications before launching so Windows and Steam are not competing with the game for memory. This does not turn a below-minimum system into a supported one, but it removes an avoidable source of paging and launch failures.
Graphics hardware and storage
Steam names a GeForce GTX 960 or Radeon R9 380 for minimum graphics hardware, and a GeForce GTX 1660 or Radeon RX 590 for the recommended tier. These are the examples Steam publishes; they are not a complete list of equivalent cards. If your card is different, compare its capabilities with those examples rather than assuming a newer product is automatically equivalent.
Both tiers list 10 GB of available storage. “Available” means free space at installation time, not the total capacity printed on a drive. Windows, Steam updates, shader caches, and other applications can consume space, so keep more than the bare 10 GB when possible. Steam specifically recommends an SSD for the recommended configuration. An SSD is not listed as a minimum requirement, but installing on one can reduce loading delays compared with a hard disk.

What the demo contains
Vaultbreakers Demo is a limited introduction rather than the complete game. Steam describes the following playable scope:
- Two playable Vaultbreakers.
- An upgradable haven and perks.
- Part of the first map, Wolfswood.
- Onboarding content and main quests through the first Vaultbreak.
- Co-op for you and up to two friends.
- Legacy Points that unlock rewards intended to remain available after launch.
The demo is PvE-only
The Steam listing states, “The demo only features PvE.” That means the publicly playable demo is built around player-versus-environment activities. Do not expect the game’s PvPvE mode to be available as a selectable mode in this download. Steam directs players to the main store page or the in-demo calendar for information about future PvPvE tests; those tests are separate from the current demo scope.

What carries over and what does not
Legacy Points are the exception to the normal reset rule: Steam says they unlock rewards intended to remain available after launch. Other demo progress will not carry over to the released game. The listing also warns that demo progress may be reset before the full launch. Consequently, treat character development, haven upgrades, quest completion, and other ordinary progress as provisional. Do not spend time in the demo solely to preserve an inventory or build for release.
How to start playing after installation
Complete the onboarding sequence
The demo includes onboarding and the main quests up to the first Vaultbreak. Follow those introductory objectives before judging the breadth of the content: the demo’s map and quest access are intentionally limited to an early portion of the game. The first Vaultbreak is the stated endpoint for the included main-quest progression.

You can use the demo’s two playable Vaultbreakers to learn how their abilities and roles differ within the included PvE missions. The official listing confirms the number of characters but does not publish a complete ability breakdown in the material used for this guide, so use the in-game descriptions rather than relying on an assumed class system.
Upgrade the haven and perks
The included haven can be upgraded, and perks are part of the demo’s progression. Use these systems as you advance through the onboarding and Wolfswood quests. Because ordinary progress may be reset and will not carry to release, regard upgrades as a way to explore the demo’s mechanics rather than a permanent investment.
Play solo or invite co-op partners
Steam lists co-op with up to two friends, allowing a group of as many as three players. The listing does not promise cross-platform play, dedicated servers, or a particular matchmaking method, so do not assume those features are available. If an invitation or join option is not visible, check that each participant has installed the same demo and is signed in to Steam, then use the co-op controls presented in the current client.
Keyboard, mouse, and controller support
Steam lists full controller support and specifically identifies Xbox controllers. A PC-compatible Xbox controller is optional: it is not required to download, install, or launch the demo. Choose keyboard and mouse or a supported controller according to your preference, and connect the controller before launching if you want Steam or the game to detect it during startup.

The listing does not establish a particular controller model, adapter, price, or accessory requirement. Avoid buying hardware solely because the store page mentions controller support; your existing compatible device may be sufficient.

The demo page shows no install button
Confirm that you are on the official app page and that Steam has loaded your account session. If the browser view is stale, open the Steam desktop client and search for “Vaultbreakers Demo” there. The store action may be labelled Play Demo rather than Install Demo, so look for either wording. If neither appears, reload the page, restart Steam, and check the live listing for a regional or availability change.
Steam says there is not enough disk space
Free at least 10 GB on the selected Steam library drive, then retry the installation. Check the destination library rather than only the drive containing Windows: Steam installs into the library you select. If the drive has exactly 10 GB free, remove or move other files first so the installer has room for temporary data and updates.
Your PC is below the listed minimum
The minimum specification is the lowest configuration Steam publishes for supported play; it is not a promise that every below-minimum system will launch. Compare your operating system, processor cores and clock, RAM, graphics card, storage, and internet connection with the table. If one component falls short, the responsible options are to use a qualifying PC or upgrade that component after checking compatibility. Do not infer a fix from the recommended tier, and do not expect lower graphics settings to compensate for an unsupported operating system or insufficient memory.

The game launches slowly or stutters
First confirm that the installation completed and that your graphics driver supports the DirectX version shown on the current Steam page. Close unnecessary applications, especially those that consume substantial RAM, and install the demo on an SSD if one is available. These steps address common resource and storage bottlenecks but cannot guarantee a particular frame rate, because the published requirements do not include performance benchmarks.
Steam cannot download the files
Check that the PC has broadband access and that Steam is online. Pause and resume the download from Steam’s Downloads view, verify that the destination drive remains connected and writable, and restart the client if the transfer remains stuck. If other Steam downloads also fail, resolve the client or network issue first; a Vaultbreakers-specific reinstall is unlikely to fix a general Steam connection problem.
A co-op partner cannot join
Make sure every player has installed the demo from the same official listing and is online in Steam. The supported group size is you plus up to two friends. If the session still cannot be joined, restart the game and Steam client on each PC, then try the invitation or join control offered by the current demo build. The official materials do not specify a separate port-forwarding procedure or cross-platform feature, so do not configure one based on assumption.
You are worried about losing progress
That concern is valid. Steam says progress other than Legacy Points will not carry over to the released game and that demo progress may be reset before launch. Keep Legacy Points if you want the stated post-launch rewards, but play all other content for experimentation and enjoyment rather than permanent progression.

Steam lists October 8, 2026 as the demo release date. BetaDwarf’s official website currently says the full game is aimed for release in 2027. “Aims” is a plan, not a guaranteed launch date, so use the official channels for changes.
The developer says that wishlisting the game on Steam is the best way to support it and to receive store updates. You can use the official Vaultbreakers website for that guidance and for announcements. Do not treat the 2027 target as a fixed date until the developer confirms one.
Creator access
The official site also provides a way to request access to a content creator program. The published information does not establish eligibility, benefits, commission terms, or whether requests are open at a given moment. If you need creator access, use the request path on the official site and verify the current conditions instead of assuming acceptance or a particular benefit.
Before you click Play: a practical decision
Install the demo now if your PC meets the published requirements, you have 10 GB available, and you want to sample early PvE content with up to two friends. Expect Wolfswood, onboarding, quests through the first Vaultbreak, two playable Vaultbreakers, haven and perk upgrades, and Legacy Points—not the full game or PvPvE mode. Check the live Steam listing for the current DirectX value and any changed requirements, then use the Steam client’s own installation prompt rather than an unofficial download.
