The demo offers a PvE-only slice of the game, with two playable characters, part of the Wolfswood map and co-op for up to three players. The separately scheduled Alpha Test is where players can try the next test build; PvPvE is not part of this demo.
What’s in the Vaultbreakers demo?
The free demo is available on Steam. Steam describes Vaultbreakers as a top-down extraction RPG with PvE and PvPvE adventures, but the demo itself is PvE-only.

Steam lists full controller support, including Xbox controllers. A controller is optional; the listing does not require one or recommend a particular model.
Does demo progress carry over?
There are two different carryover rules. BetaDwarf says demo progress carries into the Alpha Test. For the full release, Steam says Legacy Points carry over, but other demo progress will not; that other progress may also be reset before launch. The Alpha Test carryover should not be confused with progress retained for the full game.

When is the Vaultbreakers Alpha Test?
BetaDwarf scheduled the Alpha Test to run from 15 October 2026 at 10:00 CEST through 21 October 2026 at 23:59 CEST. The dates and access instructions are time-sensitive, so check BetaDwarf’s official announcement for the latest details.

BetaDwarf remains the developer. The studio says it will continue development with the same team and creative vision, while Square Enix Collective provides publishing support. BetaDwarf also says design decisions remain with its team and that player feedback will continue to shape the game. Steam lists BetaDwarf and Square Enix as publishers; Square Enix Holdings’ news index also lists a Square Enix Ltd. demo announcement dated 9 October 2026.
