The beta is available now on desktop Steam and Steam Deck, but you must opt into a beta channel and use a game whose developer has enabled the feature.
What Steam Achievement Sets change
Achievement Sets replace the one long, undifferentiated achievement list with collections that reflect how a game is actually organized. A developer can create sets for the base game, an expansion, a game mode, a class, a season or another substantial content group.

Every set has its own progress bar and awards a set-complete trophy when all currently relevant achievements are unlocked. Steam also shows overall game progress alongside progress for each set and individual achievements, so you can see exactly which content remains.
Base-game and DLC progress are separate
Steam distinguishes Base Game Achievement Sets with blue progress indicators and trophies from DLC Achievement Sets with purple indicators and trophies. DLC achievements do not count toward a game’s overall progress until you own the required downloadable content. This prevents an expansion’s achievement list from making the base game appear incomplete for someone who has not purchased that expansion.

Later additions do not erase a completed set
Valve says completion of a set is preserved when new achievements are added to that already completed set. You may have additional achievements to unlock, but Steam continues to recognize the original set as completed rather than removing its completed status.
Unavailable achievements can be archived
Developers can archive individual achievements or entire sets for seasonal or permanently unavailable content. Players who unlocked archived items keep them on their profiles. Players who missed them no longer see those archived items, and the archived content does not block completion of the relevant set or game.

What the updated achievement page shows
The redesigned page brings several tracking and comparison tools together:
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →- Overall game completion and progress for every enabled set.
- Filters for achievement sets and locked or unlocked status.
- A toggle for per-achievement global statistics, keeping those figures available without crowding the default view.
- Comparison with up to three friends, including rare achievements and DLC-set progress.
Steam’s profile and library surfaces now expose completed sets. The former Perfect Games tab is called Completed, and the Completionist Showcase can include games with completed achievement sets. Store and Library pages indicate when a game supports achievement sets.

How to join the beta on desktop Steam
- Open Steam, then choose Steam > Settings. On a Mac, the equivalent menu is Steam > Preferences.
- Open Interface.
- Under Client Beta Participation, select Steam Beta Update.
- Restart Steam when prompted. The new achievement views appear as supported games adopt the system.
This is a client beta, so the menus or behavior can change while Valve and developers continue testing it.
How to join on Steam Deck
- Open the Deck’s Steam menu and select Settings.
- Choose System, then Beta Participation.
- Select Beta and restart the Steam Deck.
Valve’s Steam Deck update dated October 15, 2026 places Achievement Sets in the Preview/Beta channel. If your Deck presents separate Preview and Beta choices, use the channel that contains the current Steam client beta, then restart before checking an enabled game.

Old achievement tracking versus Achievement Sets
| Area | Earlier Steam behavior | Achievement Sets beta |
|---|---|---|
| List organization | One combined achievement list | Grouped collections with separate progress bars and completion trophies |
| DLC treatment | DLC achievements mixed into the game’s achievement view | DLC sets use purple progress and do not count toward overall progress unless the required content is owned |
| Completion after additions | Later achievements could extend what a completed list required | Completion of an already completed set remains recognized after additions |
| Seasonal or unavailable content | Unavailable achievements could continue to block completion | Developers can archive items or sets; archived content no longer blocks players who missed it |
Which games support the beta?
The feature is not automatically applied to every Steam game. Developers must adopt the tools, and Valve says supported titles will show the new views as they do so. Valve’s initial list includes:
What’s actually slowing this PC down?

- Age of Wonders 4
- American Truck Simulator
- Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4
- Crusader Kings III

- He Is Coming
- LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight
- Left 4 Dead 2
- Portal 2

A game can appear in the beta’s supported list while its developer is still organizing or migrating achievements. If the new filters or set progress do not appear immediately, restart the client and check whether that title has enabled the feature.

What this means for 100% completion
For base-game players, the key change is separation: owning no DLC should not leave DLC achievements counted against the game’s overall progress. For completionists, preserved set completion means a later achievement addition does not undo a set trophy already earned. Archived seasonal or permanently unavailable content likewise cannot block completion once the developer archives it.
The system is still a beta for both players and developers. Its behavior depends on each game’s implementation, and no published usage or performance statistics establish how widely developers will adopt it. Opting in gives you access to the current feature set, not a guarantee that every game will use Achievement Sets.
