What you are paying for
Steam Frame is a hybrid headset: it can run SteamOS games on its own or stream PC VR from a local computer. That flexibility does not mean the two modes deliver equivalent results. PC Gamer says the included wireless adapter is the best route for PC streaming, while native performance depends on the title. The review also reports that Valve made a native Snapdragon version of Half-Life: Alyx, but at lower quality than streaming the game from a PC.

These are reported specifications, not a guarantee that every PC game will run natively or at its PC version’s performance. PC Gamer’s reviewer praised setup as easy and said inside-out tracking avoided repeatedly redoing the play space. The reviewer also found the headset comfortable, describing its weight as balanced between the front module and rear battery. Those are one reviewer’s fit and setup impressions, not a promise that the headset will suit every face or room.

The review says the included glasses spacer is easy to fit. It describes the separate Ergonomic Accessories Kit as appealing but not essential. People who wear glasses should check the spacer and fit for themselves; the guide also lists compatible Zenni prescription inserts, whose current availability and price should be confirmed before buying.

Road to VR reported launch prices of $1,059 for the 256GB kit and $1,299 for the 1TB kit on September 14, 2026. Those are dated reported prices, not a guarantee of today’s price or stock. The report says reservations used a randomized lottery to limit resellers; the later VR.org guide described purchase emails going out in waves and new sign-ups joining a waitlist. Check Valve’s store for current regional pricing, taxes, reservation or waitlist status, and delivery conditions.
The VR.org guide says no power supply is included and specifies a 45W-or-higher USB-C supply. It reports Valve’s 45W supply at $29, so account for charging hardware if you do not already have a suitable supply. The headset also supports microSD expansion, but the available information does not establish a particular card capacity or third-party card recommendation.
Other possible extras include Zenni prescription inserts, the optional Ergonomic Accessories Kit, and the Arcturus Vision camera.
