Valor Mortis has 20 side quests. Six award individual trophies, while most side quests pay out Amber or upgrade materials. The Choir is the reported exception to the game’s generous cleanup window: its jail area exists only during Chapter 10: Shackled. Because Valor Mortis has no in-game map, a completion run depends on checking survivors, notes and side paths before leaving each region.
How many side quests are in Valor Mortis?
PowerPyx’s walkthrough, published October 13, 2026, counts 20 side quests in Valor Mortis. The six trophy-linked quests are The Oathbound, Laudanum, Curious Case of Seamus Diggory, Deserter, Unheard Farewell and Monster Hunt. The Choir is also identified by the walkthrough as a side quest, but it has no trophy and is the one reported missable quest.

The 20-quest total comes from the base-game walkthrough. The developer’s official Steam announcement describes a Deluxe Edition Major Story DLC as “a complete side story, separate from the main campaign,” so DLC content should not be assumed to be part of the 20-quest figure unless a later quest list says otherwise.

The six side quests tied to trophies

The only reported missable quest: The Choir
The Choir is tied to the jail area available during Chapter 10: Shackled. Once that chapter window has passed, the area is no longer available, making The Choir the reported missable side quest. It grants a consumable rather than a trophy.
Rank #2
All other side quests are reported as non-missable: they can be started and completed after finishing the story. That does not make ignoring them during the campaign risk-free, because closing a chapter can remove conversations or leave a region harder to navigate. If The Choir is unfinished, complete it before leaving the Chapter 10 jail section.

Valor Mortis has no map screen. Use a deliberate sweep whenever you enter a new region or approach a chapter transition:

- Talk to every survivor twice. A second conversation can reveal an additional prompt or confirm that the character has nothing else to say.
- Read every note. Many quests begin when you pick up a specific note rather than when you accept a conventional NPC quest.
- Walk the edges of the region. Check dead ends, side paths, interiors and unusual doorways before taking the obvious route forward.
- Inspect named locations. Some quests begin simply by accessing a particular location, so do not rely on dialogue markers alone.
- Check conversations before closing a chapter. Speak to survivors again after major story events and before using the exit that advances the chapter.
- Track trophy quests separately. The six trophy quests are all off the main path; marking them as soon as they appear prevents a late cleanup search.
The independent Valor Mortis Guide & Wiki labels some trigger suggestions as reported or inferred rather than confirmed. Treat those speculative conditions as leads, not guaranteed mechanics. For an exact route, follow PowerPyx’s walkthrough in its publication order and use the routine above to verify each region in your own save.
What choices change—and what they do not
Some side quests present dialogue choices that alter the outcome or the way a scene resolves. The listed reward remains the same regardless of the dialogue branch, according to PowerPyx. Choose a response for the character or story result you want; there is no documented “better-paying” answer to hunt for.

What side quests usually reward
- Amber: a common currency or progression reward for side content.
- Upgrade materials: several quests provide materials used to improve equipment or abilities.
- Consumables: The Choir is specifically reported to award a consumable instead of a trophy.
- Quest-specific items: The Oathbound’s documented route includes an Empty Ferrofluid Flask and Quintessential Blade Material.
Do not infer an exact payout for an unnamed quest from its trophy title or dialogue branch. Where a walkthrough does not state the item, the reliable description is the broader Amber-or-upgrade-material pattern.
A practical completion checklist
- Finish The Choir during Chapter 10: Shackled while the jail area is accessible.
- Record progress toward We Wear the Same Colours, A Bitter Cure, Blood and Wine, Hand in the Jar, Aggressive Reconnaissance and The Book of Beasts.
- Before leaving every region, revisit survivors, read notes and inspect side paths.
- Before advancing a chapter, check for open conversations and unexplored locations.
- After the main story, use the non-missable cleanup window for anything still outstanding.
This approach covers the confirmed 20-quest structure while protecting the one reported missable opportunity and the six trophy checks that are easiest to overlook.
