What kind of game is Valor Mortis?
Valor Mortis is a first-person Soulslike set in a supernatural reimagining of Napoleonic-era Europe. You play William, a resurrected soldier from Napoleon’s Grande Armée. The historical setting is therefore a fictional alternate world rather than a conventional military simulation.
Combat systems described by the publisher
- Light and heavy attacks built around stamina management.
- Parries and counterattacks intended to reward timing.
- Period-inspired weapons, including rapiers, flintlock pistols, a Claymore and a Musket.
- Different weapons intended for different enemy situations.
These are descriptions from the publisher’s September 30 gameplay overview, not independent performance or review findings.

Transmutations, builds and exploration
Transmutations are left-hand supernatural powers. The publisher says they can buff William, damage or debuff enemies, and help traverse the environment. Examples shown include Fire, Shield and Grapple. Exploration uses a Metroidvania-style structure, implying that new abilities open previously inaccessible routes.
