Blood in V Rising is both your fuel and a temporary character build. Feeding on a creature, worker, brute, rogue, scholar, or warrior refills your blood pool, switches your active blood type to that victim’s type, and grants that type’s passive bonuses. The victim’s blood quality determines how many of five bonus tiers are active. If the pool reaches zero, you lose health and can eventually die.
Godlike.Host offers hosted V Rising servers with its own game panel, SFTP access and free DDoS protection, if you would rather not host it yourself.
The Blood Moon is a separate nighttime event on an 18-day cycle. It strengthens whichever blood type you already have by adding 20% Blood Efficiency and 10% movement speed; it does not choose a new type for you. A perfect 100% victim is worth preserving when you need Tier V, but it is not automatically the best choice for every activity.

Every vampire has a blood pool that drains continuously during normal play. Feeding on a living victim refills that pool and makes the victim’s blood type your active type. Because feeding replaces your current type, changing from a harvesting setup to a combat setup means finding and feeding on a different victim.
Blood type and blood quality are separate. The type determines the kind of bonuses you receive, while quality determines how many tiers of that type are unlocked. A low-quality Warrior and a high-quality Warrior are still the same type, but the high-quality version activates more of Warrior’s effects.
#1 Best Overall
- Awaken as a Vampire. Hunt for blood in nearby settlements to regain your strength and evade the scorching sun to survive.
- Raise your castle and thrive in an ever-changing, open world full of mystery. Gain allies online and conquer the land of the living.
When the pool empties, the game warns you through the blood resource indicator. Continuing without feeding causes health loss and can ultimately kill you, so blood management matters during long journeys, boss attempts, and daylight travel.
Blood quality thresholds
| Tier | Required quality | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Tier I | 1% or higher | The first bonus of the active blood type is available. |
| Tier II | 30% or higher | The second bonus is added. |
| Tier III | 60% or higher | The third bonus is added. |
| Tier IV | 90% or higher | The fourth bonus is added. |
| Tier V | Exactly 100% | The final tier activates and improves the other effects. |
The thresholds are fixed as quality breakpoints, but the exact wording and numerical strength of individual bonuses can change between game versions. Treat in-game tooltips and current patch notes as the authority for precise percentages.
What each blood type is for
The six commonly documented types divide into clear jobs. Choose by what you are doing rather than chasing one universal “best” blood type.
| Blood type | Primary role | Best situations | Trade-off to consider |
|---|---|---|---|
| Creature | Survivability and movement | Travel, exploration, escaping danger, and situations where mobility or general endurance matters more than damage. | It is not specialized for maximum weapon damage, spell output, or resource harvesting. |
| Worker | Gathering and resource damage | Mining, logging, collecting materials, and extended resource runs. | Its value is concentrated in gathering, so it is usually a poor boss-fight choice. |
| Brute | Sustain and melee pressure | Close-range fighting when healing, durability, and consistent melee attacks are important. | It does not focus on the critical-hit or spell-specific advantages of other types. |
| Rogue | Critical hits and mobility | Fast combat, repositioning, and builds that benefit from burst damage or critical-hit opportunities. | It may be less forgiving than a sustain-oriented setup when mistakes cause repeated damage. |
| Scholar | Spell casting | Spell-focused loadouts and encounters where magical damage or spell resource management is central. | Weapon-first builds may gain more from Warrior or Rogue instead. |
| Warrior | Physical weapon damage and defense | Weapon-centered combat, difficult fights, and players who want a balanced offensive and defensive profile. | It does not provide Worker’s gathering specialization or Scholar’s spell emphasis. |
This role comparison is intentionally version-sensitive. The game has changed balance across updates, and the exact values attached to each tier can differ by patch. Use the type’s current tooltip to decide whether a breakpoint is worth pursuing for your build.
Creature: movement and survival
Creature blood is the practical travel option. It supports survivability and movement, making it useful when crossing the map, scouting unfamiliar areas, or avoiding fights that would consume healing items and blood. Keep it available for exploration rather than treating it as a damage setup.
Worker: resource runs
Worker blood is built around gathering and resource damage. Feed before a dedicated mining, logging, or material-collection trip, then return to a combat type before entering a dangerous encounter. A high-quality Worker victim can save substantial time during a long farming session, but the type’s benefits do not make it a general-purpose boss build.

Brute: sustained melee
Brute blood suits players who stay in melee range and value sustain. It helps turn repeated attacks into a more forgiving fight, particularly when you are learning an encounter and taking some unavoidable hits. It is a strong practical choice when survival is the limiting factor rather than raw burst.

- Colonize the Ocean: Build floating settlements and access natural resources hidden beneath the seas of the alien planet. Alien beasts with unique abilities inhabit the water and challenge the player in new ways. The ocean provides a fully replayable map, new gameplay mechanics and strategic possibilities for players to reign supreme on their new world
- Dynamic Leader Traits: Players and AI Leaders alike unlock new Traits through gameplay and activate different combinations to respond to the changing world. These dynamic sets of Traits also provide benefits and add to the new Diplomacy system, governed by the new Fear and Respect attributes.
- New, Enhanced Diplomatic Options: Shape the diplomatic landscape by using political capital to upgrade your traits, change diplomatic relationships, and leverage the benefits of your allies’ traits.
- New Sponsors: Four new factions have been added to the game including Al Falah, nomad explorers descended from wealthy and resilient Middle Eastern states that possess a rich cultural and commercial heritage.
- New Artifact System: Collect and combine powerful relics to unlock new perks, unit upgrades, and buildings for your faction on the new world.
Rogue: critical pressure and mobility
Rogue blood favors aggressive movement and critical-hit-oriented combat. It is a natural fit for players who rely on repositioning, quick openings, and burst windows. Because its value depends on landing attacks and using mobility well, it rewards active play more than passive trading of damage.
Scholar: spell builds
Scholar blood is the specialist option for spell casting. If your damage plan centers on abilities rather than repeated weapon swings, Scholar is the type to test first. Compare the current tier text with your spell cooldowns, resource needs, and encounter length instead of assuming that a higher quality automatically beats a lower-quality type that better matches your build.
Warrior: weapon damage and defense
Warrior blood supports physical weapon damage while adding defensive value. It is a dependable combat default for weapon-focused characters and can be easier to use than a highly specialized type when you do not know what an encounter will demand.
Is 100% blood worth saving?
Yes, when you need Tier V: the fifth tier requires exactly 100% quality, not merely 90% or “almost perfect.” Tier V also boosts the other effects, so a perfect victim is the strongest version of that blood type under the same rules.
However, saving every 100% victim is not always the best use of your time. A perfect Worker is valuable for a major gathering session, while a perfect Scholar may be more valuable before a spell-heavy boss attempt. If you are only travelling or clearing routine enemies, a lower-quality victim that still reaches the tier you need may be sufficient.
- Save it when the type matches a planned activity and you can preserve it safely.
- Use it immediately when a difficult fight or resource run is about to begin and the extra tier changes your odds.
- Do not waste it on a short trip where the blood will drain before its specialized bonuses matter.
Quality is also temporary. Feeding on another victim later replaces the current blood type and quality, so plan your route and activities around the blood you intend to keep.
How to identify and preserve high-quality blood
Reveal victim information with Blood Hunger
Blood Hunger reveals a victim’s blood type and percentage above the target. The ability becomes available after defeating Tristan the Vampire Hunter. Once unlocked, use it while surveying groups of enemies so you can identify the quality you want before feeding.

- Activate Blood Hunger while near potential victims.
- Read the type and percentage displayed above each target.
- Prioritize a victim whose type matches your next activity and whose quality reaches the required breakpoint.
- Feed only after confirming that you are not about to replace a better blood type accidentally.
Store human victims in prison cells
After defeating Vincent the Frostbringer, prison cells let you hold high-quality human victims. This changes blood management from a hunt at the start of every expedition into a stockpiling system: capture a useful human, keep that type available, and collect the blood later when you need it.
Prisoners are especially useful for preserving rare quality levels such as 90% and 100%. Label or otherwise organize your cells by type and quality so you do not consume the wrong victim before a planned activity. The underlying principle remains the same: the stored victim is a reserve, not a permanent character upgrade. Feeding changes your active type, and the pool will still drain after you feed.
What the Blood Moon does
The Blood Moon is a nighttime event that occurs on an 18-day cycle. During the event, players receive:
- 20% Blood Efficiency
- 10% movement speed
Blood Efficiency amplifies the effects of your active blood type and raises the maximum cap of blood effects by the same amount. In practical terms, the event makes the build you already selected stronger; it does not convert Creature blood into Warrior blood or grant a second type.
How to use the event
- Check that the Blood Moon night is approaching on your server’s cycle.
- Feed on the type that matches your planned activity before the event begins.
- Enter the night with enough blood in your pool to avoid an emergency feeding trip.
- Schedule travel, farming, or combat during the event so the movement and Blood Efficiency bonuses have time to pay off.
- Remember that feeding on another type during the event replaces the active build, so change only when the new role is more useful.
The movement bonus is helpful for reaching targets and escaping danger, but the central benefit is amplification of your current blood effects. A Blood Moon therefore rewards preparation rather than replacing it: a poorly chosen type remains poorly chosen, only stronger.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Blood Moon server settings
Server owners can adjust the event with the BloodMoonBuff setting. The documented default is 0.2, representing 20%, and the supported range is 0.0 to 0.9. A server using a non-default value will not deliver the standard 20% Blood Efficiency, so guides and expectations based on the default do not automatically apply to every private or dedicated server.
| Setting | Documented value | Effect on play |
|---|---|---|
BloodMoonBuff |
Default 0.2; range 0.0–0.9 | Controls the strength of the Blood Moon buff; the actual event schedule remains an 18-day cycle unless other server rules alter it. |
If a Blood Moon feels weaker or stronger than the commonly quoted 20%, check the server configuration before assuming the game is malfunctioning.

Planning blood for different activities
Before a boss attempt
- Choose between Brute, Rogue, Scholar, and Warrior according to whether your build depends on sustain, critical mobility, spells, or physical weapons.
- Use Blood Hunger to verify the victim’s percentage before feeding.
- Aim for the breakpoint that unlocks the tier your strategy needs; reserve 100% for attempts where Tier V’s extra strength justifies using a rare victim.
- Carry a route to another victim or a stored prisoner in case the fight lasts long enough to drain your pool.
During a gathering trip
- Feed on Worker blood before mining, logging, or collecting materials.
- Use a quality that reaches the relevant gathering tier rather than consuming a perfect combat victim.
- Return to a combat type before entering an area where hostile enemies or a boss can interrupt the run.
While exploring
- Creature blood is the mobility-and-survival choice for long travel.
- Keep an eye on the pool because movement bonuses do not stop blood drain.
- Use a Blood Moon night for difficult crossings when the extra movement speed and amplified effects reduce travel risk.
Common mistakes and fixes
Assuming 90% is “close enough” to 100%
It is not. Ninety percent reaches Tier IV; Tier V requires exactly 100%. If the fifth tier is missing, find a perfect victim rather than feeding on a merely high-quality one.
Changing type by accident
Feeding immediately replaces your active blood. Check the displayed type and percentage before holding the feed command, especially after a fight where several victims are nearby.
Entering a fight with an empty pool
Blood loss causes health loss once the pool is empty. Feed before leaving base, keep a reserve victim available when possible, and avoid treating blood as a one-time pre-fight potion.
Expecting the Blood Moon to grant a new type
The event amplifies the active type and adds movement speed. Feed into the desired type before the night starts; the event itself will not change your role.

A practical decision rule
Start with the activity, then select the type, then select the quality breakpoint. Use Worker for materials, Creature for travel, Brute for sustained melee, Rogue for critical mobility, Scholar for spells, and Warrior for physical weapons and defense. After that, decide whether Tier II, III, IV, or V is worth the victim you are spending. This order prevents the common mistake of choosing a perfect percentage first and only later discovering that the type does not fit the job.
For a Blood Moon, apply the same rule one step earlier: prepare the desired type before nightfall, because the event strengthens your existing choice rather than making the choice for you.
