Short answer: Polygon’s August 27, 2025 migration replaced its earlier bridged USDT deployment with Polygon-native USDT0. The old Polygon USDT bridge contract was disabled, and the current USDT0 Polygon page lists 0xc2132D05D31c914a87C6611C10748AEb04B58e8F. In practical terms, “USDT on Polygon” may still be the label shown in a wallet or exchange, but a transfer made through the current USDT0 route arrives as USDT0. Always verify the network, contract, quoted fee and recipient support before sending.
What changed on Polygon?
Polygon’s August 27, 2025 announcement described a migration from the earlier USDT deployment, which was bridged through Polygon PoS, to Polygon-native USDT0. The announcement said users did not need to take any action and that the previous Polygon USDT bridge contract was disabled. Existing balances therefore were not presented as requiring a manual migration transaction.

The change matters when you move tokens between chains or deposit to a service. A familiar ticker does not by itself identify the contract or transfer mechanism. The current route described by USDT0 uses its cross-chain system, so the token received on Polygon through that route is USDT0 even when an interface uses the broader phrase “USDT on Polygon.”
What “USDT on Polygon” can mean
- Historical usage: a reference to the former bridged Polygon USDT deployment.
- Interface shorthand: a wallet or exchange may label the Polygon asset simply as USDT.
- Current transfer route: a bridge transaction that delivers USDT0 to Polygon under the current deployment.
Read the network and contract fields rather than relying on the display name. Polygon’s migration statement is about the deployment change; it is not a guarantee that every exchange, wallet or bridge has updated its labels at the same time.

USDT0 and USDT: same dollar token, different route and representation
USDT is the ticker associated with Tether’s dollar-denominated token. USDT0 is the Polygon-native deployment and cross-chain route described in the current USDT0 documentation. The two names can describe the same underlying dollar-token ecosystem while referring to different chain representations and transfer plumbing.
For a user, the operational difference is more important than the branding question. You must know which token contract exists on the destination chain, which bridge system is being used, what fee is quoted, and whether the recipient accepts that exact asset on that exact network. A transfer can be valid on-chain yet remain uncredited if the receiving service does not support the route or contract you selected.
Current Polygon contract and how to verify it
USDT0’s Polygon page lists this contract for the Polygon USDT asset:

Use the complete address, including capitalization, when checking a token in a wallet or block explorer. Before approving a transaction, confirm all of the following against current official information:
- The selected network is Polygon, not an Ethereum-compatible network with a similar name.
- The contract displayed by the bridge, wallet or recipient matches the current Polygon contract.
- The source token and destination token are the ones shown in the live quote.
- The recipient platform explicitly supports deposits or withdrawals for that network and asset.
Do not copy an address from an old chat message, a search result or a token-list entry you cannot verify. Token names and logos are editable metadata; the contract and network identify what you are actually receiving.

How the current transfer routes differ
USDT0 documentation distinguishes transfers within the USDT0 Network from routes that connect to USDT on its Legacy Mesh. The route determines the token representation delivered to Polygon and the protocol fee.
| Route type | Destination representation on Polygon | Protocol fee stated by USDT0 | Other cost | What to check |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Another USDT0 Network chain to Polygon | USDT0 | No protocol fee | Source- and destination-chain gas | Live quote, gas balance and recipient support |
| Polygon to another USDT0 Network chain | USDT0 on the destination | No protocol fee | Source- and destination-chain gas | Live quote, gas balance and recipient support |
| Legacy Mesh chain (Solana, TON, Tron or Celo) involving Polygon | Route-specific USDT/USDT0 representation | 0.03% (3 basis points), paid in USDT | Source- and destination-chain gas | Whether the exact source-token-destination combination is enabled |
The 0.03% figure applies to a route involving native USDT on the listed Legacy Mesh networks. It should not be applied to every Polygon transfer. The bridge’s live quote is the authoritative amount for the transaction you are about to sign.

Tether’s Wallet Development Kit guidance recommends quoting the exact source-token-destination combination. A chain appearing in a developer configuration or a static network list does not prove that every direction, token pair or route is currently live. Route availability and fees can change without the display name changing.
What happens during a USDT0 transfer
The normal user flow is a quote-and-confirm process rather than a simple wallet send:
- Connect the wallet. Use the wallet that controls the source tokens and make sure it is connected to the intended source network.
- Select the asset. Choose the exact USDT or USDT0 entry offered by the route interface. Do not substitute a similarly named token manually.
- Select source and destination chains. Choose Polygon as the destination when you want the current Polygon deployment, and verify the source chain separately.
- Enter the amount and request a live quote. Review the amount arriving, protocol fee, estimated gas and any minimum or time estimate shown by the interface.
- Check the destination contract and recipient. If you are depositing to a service, compare its supported network and contract information with the quote before continuing.
- Approve the token, if requested. The approval transaction is separate from the bridge transaction on many networks. Confirm that the spender and amount are what the interface describes.
- Confirm the transfer. Sign only after the source, destination, amount and fees match your plan.
- Wait for finality and verify receipt. Use the transaction details and the destination-chain balance. If a wallet does not show the token automatically, add the verified Polygon contract rather than importing an unverified asset.
Keep enough native gas currency on both sides when the route requires it. “No protocol fee” does not mean a transaction is free: the source and destination chains can still charge gas, and a destination transaction may fail if the wallet lacks the required native asset.

Understanding the stated USDT0 transfer design
USDT0’s Polygon documentation describes a LayerZero-based system combined with the USDT0 Attestation System. It says transfers use a burn-and-mint model with 1:1 backing. In that model, the representation on the source side is burned and a corresponding representation is minted on the destination side, rather than moving the same token units through a single lockbox.
The documentation names a Core Attestation Set made up of USDT0, LayerZero and Canary and describes 3-of-3 approval. Its FAQ states: “No single verifier can approve a transfer on its own.” These are statements of the project’s design and operating controls, not an independent audit conclusion. They do not remove the need to verify contracts, permissions, route status or the receiving platform.
What 1:1 backing does and does not tell you
“1:1 backing” describes the issuer’s stated relationship between the cross-chain representation and the underlying USDT. It does not tell you that a particular exchange accepts the token, that a bridge route is available in both directions, or that a transaction cannot be delayed or rejected. Those are separate operational questions.
Fees: separate protocol charges from gas
For transfers between Polygon and another USDT0 Network chain, USDT0 says it charges no protocol fee. You still pay gas on the source and destination chains. The amount varies with network conditions and with the transactions required by the route.
When a route involves native USDT on Solana, TON, Tron or Celo in the Legacy Mesh, USDT0 states a 0.03% fee, equal to 3 basis points, paid in USDT. For example, a 10,000-USDT transfer would have a stated protocol charge of 3 USDT before gas, if that exact route is quoted at the published rate. That calculation is illustrative; the live quote controls the amount actually charged.

- Check whether the fee is displayed in USDT or another asset.
- Check whether gas estimates include both source and destination transactions.
- Check the amount the recipient will receive, not just the amount you enter.
- Re-quote if you change the source chain, destination chain or token entry.
Exchange and wallet compatibility is a separate decision
The available documentation does not establish current deposit or withdrawal support for any particular exchange. Support is platform-specific and can change independently of Polygon’s migration or the USDT0 route.
Before sending to a custodial service, open its deposit page and verify:
- The asset name and ticker shown for the deposit.
- The exact network label, such as Polygon, rather than a generic “USDT” option.
- Whether the service gives a contract address or otherwise identifies the supported token.
- Any minimum deposit, memo, tag or maintenance notice.
- Whether withdrawals are enabled on the same network if you expect to move funds back out.
If the service lists only “USDT on Polygon” without clarifying the current contract or route, ask its support team before transferring a material amount. A successful blockchain transaction cannot be reversed by the bridge because a recipient selected the wrong network.

The wallet shows two USDT entries
Compare the network and full contract address. Hide or ignore an obsolete token entry only after confirming which contract represents your balance. Never delete a wallet or sign a “migration” transaction solely because a message claims your tokens are outdated.
The route is unavailable
Recheck the exact source token, direction and destination. A route may be disabled temporarily even when both chains appear in a configuration list. Do not improvise by sending directly to a contract or by selecting a different token with the same ticker.

The fee is higher than expected
Determine whether the quote includes the 0.03% Legacy Mesh protocol fee, source gas, destination gas or all three. Refresh the quote after network conditions change and confirm the final receive amount before signing.
The recipient has not credited the deposit
First verify the transaction hash, destination network, recipient address and token contract. Then compare those details with the service’s current deposit instructions. Contact the service with the hash if the chain confirms delivery but the account remains uncredited; do not send a second transaction as a test unless the service instructs you to do so.
The token is missing from the wallet interface
Use the wallet’s verified “import token” function and enter the Polygon contract listed above only after checking it against current official information. A missing display balance is a wallet-interface issue until the chain data proves otherwise.

Use this checklist immediately before approving any transfer:
- Asset: Is the selected token the exact USDT or USDT0 entry intended for the route?
- Source: Is the wallet connected to the chain where the balance actually exists?
- Destination: Is Polygon, or the other destination chain, selected explicitly?
- Contract: Does the destination contract match current official information?
- Route class: Is this an internal USDT0 Network transfer or a Legacy Mesh route?
- Fee: What protocol fee and gas costs appear in the live quote?
- Recipient: Does the receiving platform support that exact network and token?
- Final amount: What amount will arrive after every fee?
- Gas: Does the wallet hold enough native currency for source and destination transactions?
What the $1.3 billion figure means
USDT0’s 2025 Polygon migration material referred to $1.3 billion in USDT liquidity. That is a historical, project-reported figure associated with the migration reporting. It should not be read as a current circulating supply, a guaranteed amount available on every route or an independently audited liquidity measurement.
Bottom line for Polygon users
The old bridged Polygon USDT deployment and the current USDT0 route are not interchangeable labels for transaction purposes. Polygon said the old bridge contract was disabled during the August 27, 2025 upgrade, while USDT0 identifies 0xc2132D05D31c914a87C6611C10748AEb04B58e8F as the current Polygon contract. Transfers through the USDT0 route arrive as USDT0, and fees depend on whether the route stays within the USDT0 Network or crosses to the Legacy Mesh. Verify the live quote and recipient support every time; the ticker alone is not sufficient.
