The WordPress Shortcode API lets plugin developers create dynamic content editors can insert into posts and pages, but the URL2PNG Screenshots listing documents a PHP theme function, not a shortcode for that plugin. See the WordPress Shortcode API if you choose to build your own shortcode.
Generate a URL2PNG v6 request URL
The documented request format is https://api.url2png.com/v6/{APIKEY}/{TOKEN}/png/?{query_string}. URL2PNG assigns the API key during signup; the guide says it begins with “P”. The token is the MD5 hash of the entire query string and the secret key. The target website URL must be URL-encoded. Use the precise encoding and ordering prescribed by the official v6 guide: if the text hashed differs from the query string actually sent, the signature can fail.
The following PHP example illustrates the signing contract for a server-side WordPress integration. Confirm the exact parameter syntax and encoding requirements against URL2PNG’s guide before deployment. Keep the secret in server configuration, not in JavaScript, page HTML, or a public repository.

These are the values and options documented in URL2PNG’s guide at the time represented by the available documentation. Check the live guide before relying on a default. For a thumbnail grid, a viewport capture and a width limit are a sensible starting point; full-page capture is useful only when the entire long page must be visible in the image.
Render the image in WordPress
Custom theme or plugin integration
Generate the signed image URL in PHP, then output it in the relevant template or plugin-rendered content. Escape the URL for HTML and provide meaningful alternative text. For a repeated set of thumbnails, avoid regenerating signatures or making a separate capture request on every page view unless live freshness is required; choose a storage or caching approach that fits your hosting setup. The reviewed API and WordPress sources do not define a supported WordPress caching architecture, so treat this as your implementation decision.

Legacy plugin function
The plugin listing describes getScreenshot('Website URL', WIDTH, HEIGHT, IMAGETAG, CLASS) as a theme function. Its example uses the fourth argument as true to return an image tag. The historical listing does not establish present-day installation safety or compatibility. If you test it, do so on staging, inspect the generated output, and confirm it works with your active WordPress and PHP versions before putting it on a public site.
Editor-insertable shortcode
If editors need to insert screenshots into post content, a custom shortcode can call your own server-side implementation. Protect the URL2PNG secret as you would any server credential. A signed image URL placed in an img element is visible to visitors, even when the signing secret is not; keep the secret and token-generation code on the server, and avoid embedding the secret in client-side scripts or editor-authored content.
