- Think about fit and layers. Consult the brand’s current size guidance and consider whether you will wear an insulating layer underneath.
- Weigh packability against your plans. Packability and weight matter for travel and hiking, but check the exact model’s specifications rather than relying on a brand-level assumption.
- Confirm the actual deal. Check the retailer’s current price, sizes and stock. A reported percentage off does not establish today’s price or whether your size is available.

Torrentshell 3L

Patagonia’s older FA18 catalog describes the Torrentshell as a 2.5-layer waterproof/breathable shell with a 100% recycled nylon face fabric. These are construction details from an older catalog, not a verified specification for every current model year; check the listing for the exact jacket you intend to buy. Patagonia’s FA18 catalog also describes the Triolet as a 3-layer GORE-TEX shell intended for heavy snow, driving wind and rain.
