Uttar Pradesh aims to position Lucknow among India’s leading AI innovation cities and support at least 50 AI-focused startups there over the next five years, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said on October 6, 2026. The target is a government ambition, not a claim that the startups have already been supported or that Lucknow has achieved a national ranking.

Speaking at an event marking ten years of HCLTech’s Lucknow campus, Adityanath said the state wants the city’s technology identity to grow beyond IT services. He invited HCLTech to partner in developing the ecosystem. Coverage says work on an AI city and the broader ecosystem is progressing, but it gives no completion or delivery date and does not establish that an AI city is already operational. PTI also reported that seven Software Technology Parks are operational in Uttar Pradesh, with new IT parks being developed in Varanasi, Bareilly, Kanpur and Gorakhpur. What economic figures did the chief minister cite?
Adityanath cited the following figures in remarks reported by PTI. They are his attributed claims; the PTI and Hindustan Times coverage does not provide the underlying statistical release for independent verification.
- IT and IT-enabled services exports: roughly ₹12,000–15,000 crore a decade earlier, rising to more than ₹1 lakh crore, with a target of ₹2.5 lakh crore over the next four years.
- Mobile manufacturing: around 55% of India’s production, and nearly 60% of the country’s electronic components, attributed to Uttar Pradesh.
- Electronics exports: around ₹3,800 crore a decade earlier, rising to ₹45,000 crore, with a target of ₹2 lakh crore by 2030.
These figures provide the economic context Adityanath presented for the state’s technology ambitions; they do not verify the implementation or likely impact of the Lucknow startup plan.

The announcement establishes a stated aim, a five-year startup-support target and an invitation for HCLTech to partner.
