1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesCall of Duty 3 does have a modern Windows option—but it is an unofficial community port, not an Activision release. CoD3Recomp rebuilds the 2006 Treyarch shooter from its Xbox 360 version. Version 0.4.0 reports roughly 180 frames per second in the Forest level at 1080p when MSAA is disabled and both experimental performance options are enabled. The project does not publish the test computer’s specifications, so that result is a conditional project benchmark rather than a guaranteed PC performance target.
What CoD3Recomp is
CoD3Recomp is a native Windows recompilation of Call of Duty 3’s Xbox 360 code. It is unofficial and does not turn the commercial game into a freely distributed PC edition. The installer and project files do not include the original game data; players must provide their own legally owned Xbox 360 copy.

The Xbox 360 release is the source version, so this is not a port of the PlayStation 2, Wii or original Xbox editions. The current installer is prepared for the USA and Europe releases, according to the installation guide.
What the 180 FPS figure means
The headline number comes from the project’s own release measurements, not from a standardized independent test. In version 0.4.0, the Forest level reportedly reached about 180 FPS at 1080p with MSAA off and Watch memory writes (experimental) enabled. The release notes identify the experimental setting as disabled by default while it receives more play testing.

| Build and setting | Reported Forest result | Qualification |
|---|---|---|
| CoD3Recomp 0.3.0 | About 91 FPS | Project measurement under the guide’s stated Forest test conditions |
| CoD3Recomp 0.4.0, before experimental boost | Roughly 95–108 FPS | Project measurement; exact test hardware is not stated |
| CoD3Recomp 0.4.0, experimental options enabled | About 180 FPS | 1080p Forest test, MSAA disabled; test hardware is not disclosed |
These figures should not be read as a universal CPU or GPU requirement. A different processor, graphics card, driver, resolution, anti-aliasing mode or game scene can produce a different frame rate. The Forest result is also not a complete campaign average. Menus and video clips have their own frame-rate behavior, so a high gameplay counter does not mean every part of the program runs at 180 FPS.
PC features beyond the Xbox 360 release
Coverage of the project describes controls intended for current PC displays and hardware:

- 5-in-1 Connectivity: Equipped with a 4K HDMI port, a 5 Gbps USB-C data port, two 5 Gbps USB-A ports, and a USB C 100W PD-IN port. Note: The USB C 100W PD-IN port supports only charging and does not support data transfer devices such as headphones or speakers.
- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
- Resolutions up to 4K
- Field-of-view adjustment
- Windowed and borderless display modes
- Selectable anti-aliasing
- Texture filtering and texture-quality controls
- Model-detail settings
- Gameplay frame rates above the Xbox 360 version’s 60 FPS limit
Those options make the port more adaptable to ultrawide monitors and high-refresh-rate screens than the original console build. They do not, by themselves, establish that every cutscene, menu or timing-sensitive section scales in the same way.

- Obtain a legal Xbox 360 copy. The project does not distribute Call of Duty 3’s commercial files.
- Check the regional release. The current installer is prepared for the USA/Europe release, so verify that your dump matches a supported version.
- Install the CoD3Recomp build. Use the project’s installer or release package and follow its file-location prompts.
- Point the port at your extracted game data. Keep the original files separate from the executable and do not expect the installer to create them.
- Start with conservative graphics settings. Confirm that the campaign launches before enabling high resolutions, aggressive anti-aliasing or experimental performance switches.
- Enable experimental options only for testing. The 180 FPS report requires the experimental memory-write option and disabled MSAA; because the option is off by default pending further play testing, turn it off again if you encounter instability, glitches or incorrect behavior.
There is no official Activision PC requirements sheet for this project, and the 180 FPS report does not disclose a test system. Treat the port’s own release notes as the available performance reference rather than a minimum-specification list.
CoD3Recomp versus running Call of Duty 3 in Xenia
Xenia is an Xbox 360 emulator; CoD3Recomp is a separate native recompilation. An emulator executes the console software through an emulation layer, while the recompilation project converts the game’s code for Windows. Neither approach should be used as proof of the other’s performance.

| Question | CoD3Recomp | Xenia |
|---|---|---|
| Approach | Unofficial native Windows recompilation based on Xbox 360 code | Xbox 360 emulation |
| Frame-rate evidence | Project reports about 180 FPS in a specific 1080p Forest test with experimental options | No equivalent figure is established here; results depend on emulator settings and hardware |
| Graphics controls | PC resolution, FOV, windowed/borderless, anti-aliasing, filtering, texture and model-detail options | Game-specific settings and community patches can provide rendering changes and unlocked FPS |
| Source data | Your own supported Xbox 360 game files are required | Your own legally obtained Xbox 360 game data is required |
| Compatibility considerations | Can have issues associated with an unofficial, actively tested port; experimental options are not enabled by default | Compatibility and visual behavior vary by emulator version, settings and patches |
Xenia’s official settings documentation explains that game-specific settings and community patches can add fixes, rendering improvements and unlocked frame rates. Its Call of Duty 3 patch entry, identified by title ID 415607E1, lists optional changes involving grass, depth of field, lens flares, aspect ratio and field of view. Those patches belong to the emulation route; they are not evidence that CoD3Recomp reaches 180 FPS.

- Best-case appeal: a native-feeling Windows presentation with modern display controls and the possibility of very high gameplay frame rates.
- Main uncertainty: the headline benchmark has no disclosed test hardware and uses a specific level, resolution and experimental configuration.
- Ownership requirement: you must dump or otherwise provide the original supported Xbox 360 game data yourself.
- Fallback option: Xenia remains available if you prefer an emulator with community patches, but its behavior and setup are separate from the native port.
The Bottom Line
CoD3Recomp is the closest thing Call of Duty 3 currently has to a native PC version, and its 0.4.0 release reports about 180 FPS in a tightly defined Forest benchmark. That is an unofficial, experimental project result—not a universal performance guarantee—and you still need your own supported Xbox 360 game files.
