To move your husband into your household in The Sims 4, open the household transfer (split-and-merge) screen, select his Sim, choose the household you want him in, and confirm. Community walkthroughs on the EA Forums describe this route. They are player-written rather than official manuals, so menu labels and icon placement may differ depending on your game version.

Before you start

  • Know which household your husband’s Sim currently belongs to. You need to find it in your saved worlds before you can move him.
  • Decide whether he should join a household you already have or a new one you create during the transfer.
  • Check how many Sims the destination household already contains. The eight-Sim limit described in EA’s Help documentation applies here as a practical ceiling (see the household size section below).
  • Have any funds you plan to move between households ready. A forum walkthrough mentions a funds-transfer step before the move is confirmed.

Step-by-step: transferring your husband’s Sim

  1. Open Manage Worlds. In the accepted EA Forums answer titled “Splitting up household in sims 4?!”, the walkthrough starts here. Select the world, then find the household that contains your husband’s Sim.
  2. Open Manage Household. From that household’s options, choose Manage Household.
  3. Open the transfer control. The walkthrough describes a double-arrow icon that opens the split-and-merge screen. Select your husband’s Sim in that screen.
  4. Choose the destination. Pick the household you want him to join, or create a new household as the destination.
  5. Review any funds prompt. If the transfer offers a funds transfer, decide the amount before you continue. The walkthrough does not state a fixed amount.
  6. Confirm and verify. Accept the transfer, then check that his Sim now appears in the destination household’s Sim list.

Alternate route through Manage Households

A second EA Forums discussion, “Roommates,” describes reaching the same result through Manage Households. Locate your husband’s Sim there, choose the option to transfer the Sim between households, and move him into an existing or newly created household. If your game shows this option under a different label, the goal is the same: a transfer that places him in the playable household you want.

Choosing a destination

The two destinations described in these walkthroughs behave differently in practice. The table below compares them using only what the sources state.

Destination Result for the Sim What to check first
Existing household (your household) Moves into your playable household, as the walkthroughs describe Current Sim count against the eight-Sim limit
New household created during the transfer Sits in the new household you create, which can then be placed in another location Not stated: whether a new household needs a separate lot or setup
Roommate arrangement Stays in a separate household, so he is not a member of your playable household Use a household transfer instead if your goal is actual household membership

Household size limit

Electronic Arts’ Help article “How do Wills and Heirloom Objects work in The Sims 4?” (last updated around May 2026) states that a household can hold eight Sims. In that article, when a child or pet from a will would push a household over eight Sims, the extra Sim goes to the My Households Bin. From there you can make room in the household or choose a different household for them.

  • Play with life control the rich and entertaining moments of your Sims' lives from their relationships to their career

The article addresses will outcomes, not every transfer. Treat the eight-Sim figure as the limit to plan around, and confirm the count on your destination household before you confirm the move.

Roommates are not household members

A roommate and a household member are different things. The “Roommates” EA Forums discussion says a roommate remains in a separate household. If you want your husband to live in your playable household and be managed with it, a household transfer is the route to use. A roommate arrangement will not do that.

What the sources do and do not settle

  • Marriage is not addressed. The sources reviewed do not say whether a Sim must be married to your Sim, or in any particular relationship, before a transfer is allowed. Do not assume either way.
  • Current menus are not confirmed. The walkthroughs are community posts about older instructions. Labels, icon placement and screen order may have changed in newer versions of the game.
  • Funds amounts are not stated. The walkthrough mentions a funds step but does not give the amount or the conditions for it.

The core method, transferring an individual Sim between households through the split-and-merge screen, is the part the walkthroughs agree on, and it is the part to rely on.
