What United is actually offering
United’s partnership makes a curated selection of Apple TV+ programming available inside its in-flight entertainment system. Passengers can watch the featured episodes during the journey without buying an Apple TV+ subscription or paying an entertainment fee announced by United.

Which Apple TV+ shows were included at launch?
United confirmed full seasons of these five series in the initial lineup:
- Severance
- Shrinking
- Ted Lasso
- Slow Horses
- Silo
The announcement said additional series would be added monthly. It specifically identified The Morning Show and Bad Sisters for September 2025. Those announcements describe the launch and planned additions, not a guaranteed August 2026 roster. United’s current onboard catalog may rotate, so check the entertainment preview for your particular flight before relying on a specific title.
How to watch on a United flight
Using a seatback screen
- After boarding, open the aircraft’s entertainment menu.
- Look for an Apple TV, Apple Originals or partner-content section.
- Select an available series and start playback.
Seatback availability depends on the aircraft. United has been expanding and retrofitting its fleet, but the launch figure of more than 130,000 screens does not mean every aircraft or every seat has one.
Using your phone or tablet
- Install or update the United app before departure.
- Once onboard, connect to the aircraft’s United Wi-Fi network.
- Open the app and look for its in-flight or onboard entertainment area.
- Choose an available Apple title and play it through the app.
United confirmed app-based access, but interface labels can differ by app version and aircraft. This is in-flight entertainment access, not ordinary internet streaming over a paid Wi-Fi plan.

What to bring
- Headphones; wired headphones are the safest fallback.
- A charged phone or tablet if your flight uses personal-device entertainment.
- A charging cable or power bank for longer flights.
Some United seatback systems support Bluetooth, but the Apple TV announcement does not establish Bluetooth compatibility across the fleet. Bring a wired option or the appropriate airline-seat adapter if you depend on your own headphones.

In practical terms, “free” means the selected programs can be viewed through United’s entertainment system during an eligible flight. It does not mean Apple TV+ itself is free.
Will Apple programming be on your flight?
Do not assume that every United itinerary carries the channel. Availability can be affected by:
- Aircraft equipment: Some aircraft have seatback screens; others rely on personal devices or may offer less entertainment.
- Aircraft swaps: A replacement aircraft can change the available system.
- Route and operator: United-operated flights and United Express aircraft can have different equipment. A codeshare operated by another airline should not be assumed to provide United’s system.
- Catalog rotation: Titles can change as licensing windows and monthly programming updates change.
- App and network issues: Personal-device access depends on a working onboard connection and a compatible United app.
United said it planned to exceed 300,000 seatback screens as aircraft arrive and existing planes are retrofitted. That is a fleet-development target, not a guarantee for an individual booking. For the best indication, review the entertainment preview for your specific flight and bring downloaded backup entertainment.

What to do if the Apple channel is missing
- Confirm that your phone is connected to the aircraft’s United network.
- Close and reopen the United app.
- Try the seatback system if your aircraft has one.
- Check the flight-specific entertainment listing for a changed catalog.
- Ask a flight attendant whether the aircraft has seatback or personal-device entertainment.
A missing title does not necessarily mean the partnership has ended; it may reflect the aircraft, route, software version or current programming rotation.
How this fits United’s broader entertainment strategy
Apple is one part of United’s expanding in-flight content program. United also announced a Spotify collaboration covering music, podcasts, audiobooks and video content on more than 130,000 seatback screens. On May 1, 2026, it launched a dedicated Peacock channel with more than 1,600 hours of content for more than 160,000 seatback screens and personal devices through the United app. United’s investor materials continue to list Apple TV among its premium entertainment partnerships.
The result is a larger, multi-partner catalog rather than a single Apple-only service. If Apple programming is unavailable, United’s general movies and television selection or another partner channel may still be offered on the same flight.

The feature is most useful on long domestic, transcontinental and international flights where a full season can fill several hours. It is less persuasive on a short regional segment, an aircraft without the relevant system or an itinerary operated by a partner.

Choose the flight based on schedule, fare, aircraft and overall service first. Treat Apple programming as a useful onboard bonus, and download shows or movies in advance if a particular title is important.
