The UniFi Express 7 (UX7) combines a UniFi gateway, tri-band Wi-Fi 7 and two multi-gig Ethernet ports in a compact desktop unit. Its main trade-off is clear: it offers advanced wireless and gateway features, but only two physical Ethernet sockets, and it depends on UniFi Network software. Ubiquiti publishes strong capacity and coverage figures, but those are specifications—not independent performance results.
What the UniFi Express 7 is
The UX7 is a desktop Cloud Gateway with an integrated Wi-Fi access point. It is designed to handle the gateway role and wireless networking in one device, while also managing other UniFi equipment. Ubiquiti says it can manage 30+ UniFi devices and support 300+ simultaneous users; those are vendor capacity claims, not guarantees for every home or workload. Ubiquiti’s UX7 technical specifications

The wireless radios support Wi-Fi 7 (802.11be) and Wi-Fi 6/6E. Each band uses 2×2 MU-MIMO. Ubiquiti lists maximum radio rates of 5.7 Gbps on 6 GHz, 4.3 Gbps on 5 GHz and 688 Mbps on 2.4 GHz. These are specification-level radio rates, not measured internet speeds or expected throughput for one client. A device’s actual connection also depends on its capabilities, signal conditions, network configuration and internet service.

The UX7 has one 10 GbE RJ45 port and one 2.5 GbE RJ45 port. Ubiquiti identifies the 10 GbE port as the default WAN and lists one maximum WAN port. That gives the gateway a high-speed uplink option, but leaves two Ethernet sockets in total. If the installation needs several wired devices, plan whether a separate switch or another expansion method fits; one is not listed as included or universally required.
#1 Best Overall
- Multi-WAN UniFi Cloud Gateway
- Runs UniFi Network for full-stack network management.
- Manages 30+ UniFi Network devices and 300+ clients.
- 1 Gbps routing with IDS/IPS.
- 0.96" LCM status display.
Ubiquiti lists IDS/IPS throughput of 2.3 Gbps. It also lists stateful and application-aware firewalling, traffic identification, content filtering, ad blocking, intrusion prevention, VLAN/subnet segmentation, VPN server and client features, and OSPF routing. These are manufacturer-specified capabilities; the published figure is not an independent test of throughput with a particular set of features or configuration enabled.
Wi-Fi coverage and expansion
Ubiquiti states coverage of 160 m² (1,750 ft²). Treat that as a vendor estimate rather than a promise that every room will receive a strong signal. Building materials, placement, interference, client radios and mesh backhaul can all affect results. The available specifications do not establish real-world range, throughput, latency or roaming performance.

Ubiquiti positions the UX7 for mesh expansion and says it can extend an existing deployment as an access point. Its store page describes additional-node expansion. The separate U7 Mesh is a Wi-Fi 7 access point with a 2.5 GbE uplink and a manufacturer-stated coverage area of 140 m² (1,500 ft²), but the cited specifications do not provide a direct UX7-to-U7 Mesh compatibility matrix. Check current pairing support for the intended setup before choosing a specific node. Ubiquiti Store: UX7 · Ubiquiti U7 Mesh technical specifications
Software and setup considerations
The UX7 requires UniFi Network version 9.0.108 or later, according to Ubiquiti’s technical page. That makes software compatibility part of the buying decision: check that the software environment you plan to use meets the requirement and that you are comfortable managing a UniFi network.

- Designed as a unique, high-performance wireless bridge for UniFi Protect Sensors with minimal lag
- Offers extended Bluetooth Low Energy range that matches standard WiFi signal reach
Ubiquiti specifies USB Type-C power at 5 V/5 A and says an adapter is included. The US store lists an optional PoE Integrated AC Adapter and Universal Table Stand. The PoE adapter is an option, not a stated requirement; check the current product listing for the right accessory and configuration. UX7 technical specifications · UX7 product listing
UX7 compared with the original UniFi Express
The original UniFi Express (UX) is specified as a Wi-Fi 6 device with a single gigabit WAN and two gigabit Ethernet ports. The UX7 upgrades the wireless generation and wired port speeds, but both products have a compact form factor and limited physical port count. The table compares published specifications, not measured performance.
| Specification | UniFi Express 7 (UX7) | UniFi Express (UX) |
|---|---|---|
| Wi-Fi | Tri-band Wi-Fi 7, including 6 GHz | Wi-Fi 6 |
| Ethernet | One 10 GbE and one 2.5 GbE port; 10 GbE is the default WAN | One gigabit WAN and two gigabit Ethernet ports |
| Stated coverage | 160 m² (1,750 ft²), Ubiquiti estimate | 1,500 ft², Ubiquiti estimate |
| Maximum power consumption | 22 W | 10 W |
| Software note | Requires UniFi Network 9.0.108 or later | Ubiquiti says it will continue receiving critical security updates and selected enhancements on Network 9.0; its page points users on Network 9.1 and later to UX7 |

Who should consider the UniFi Express 7?
- A plausible fit: someone who wants a UniFi gateway and Wi-Fi 7 access point in one compact unit, values a 10 GbE WAN option, and is prepared to manage the network in UniFi software.
- Plan carefully: installations with multiple wired clients may need a switch or other expansion because the UX7 has only two Ethernet sockets.
- Look beyond the published figures: if purchase depends on actual coverage, latency, roaming or sustained throughput in a particular home, the available sources do not establish those results. Seek testing that matches the layout and workload rather than treating radio rates or estimated coverage as measured outcomes.
