Samsung does not publish a public tool that certifies a Galaxy phone as genuine. What you can do is compare the phone’s identifiers with its box and purchase records, check warranty and service eligibility for the country where you bought it, and run Samsung’s diagnostics to confirm the hardware works. Each check answers a different question, and a match on one of them does not settle whether the phone is original on its own.
Start with the identifiers on the phone
Your phone carries several identifiers: the model, the serial number and the IMEI. Samsung’s US support article on locating these values (checked in October 2026) lists the places to find them. Work through the steps below in order and write the values down somewhere private.

- Open Settings, then tap About phone. Note the model name, the model number, the serial number and the IMEI. Menu names and placement can differ by model and software version, so if you do not see these labels, search Settings for “IMEI” or “serial”.
- Dial
*#06#in the phone app. The IMEI appears on screen. Samsung notes that this code works only where the carrier supports it, so treat a failure to display the IMEI as a carrier limitation rather than a warning sign. - If the phone will not power on, or the screen is unusable, read the identifiers from the original box. The IMEI and serial number are printed on the packaging label.
- Check the other records you should already have. Samsung lists the carrier account, the sales receipt or contract, and Samsung Members as additional sources for the same identifiers.
Compare the values, then read the result carefully
Compare the IMEI and serial number on the phone with the box label and the purchase paperwork. If they agree, the device and the transaction records are consistent with each other. If they disagree, stop and treat the phone as unverified until the gap is explained.
Be precise about what agreement proves. Samsung’s wording is that identifiers “help ensure that your device isn’t counterfeit and can also help you find it if it’s lost or stolen.” That describes the identifiers as a useful check, not as a certificate. Samsung’s cited support pages do not describe a universal, independent authenticity lookup, so an IMEI that appears in a third-party tool is not a substitute for Samsung confirming the device.

The model number needs the same care. It identifies the model or variant the phone was built as. It does not tell you whether the particular unit was made by Samsung or sold through an authorized channel.
Compare the checks side by side

Check warranty and service by region
Warranty status is a support check. It tells you whether Samsung will repair or service the device under its terms, and those terms depend on where the phone was bought. Samsung’s US guidance on warranty and coverage says coverage and support options vary by country or region.

Use the Samsung support site for the country where you purchased the phone, not only the country where you live now. In Samsung’s US repair flow, if service is not available at your current location, you may be directed to the country where the product was purchased. A phone bought abroad may therefore need that country’s support route. The US guidance described here applies to US purchases; if you are outside the United States, confirm the steps on the Samsung support page for your own country before relying on them.

Samsung Members includes diagnostics that check hardware and software function on supported Galaxy devices. Open the Samsung Members app and look for the diagnostics or device status entry. Exact menu names differ by model and software version, so follow the wording on your screen rather than a fixed path.

Run the tests when you are buying a used phone, before a return window closes, or when you want a record of the phone’s condition. Passing the tests shows that the tested functions work. It does not tell you where the phone was made.
If the details do not match or the seller cannot explain them
- Stop before you finish the sale, or before you pay the balance. Keep the listing, the receipt, the contract, the box and every message with the seller.
- Write down the IMEI and serial number exactly as they appear on the phone, the box and the paperwork, and note which one differs.
- Ask the seller for a written explanation. A legitimate seller can usually account for a mismatch, such as a replaced device or a carrier record that uses a different reference.
- Contact Samsung support for the country of purchase and describe the mismatch. Ask what it can confirm about the device and what steps it recommends.
- Do not post the complete IMEI or serial number in a public forum, marketplace listing or social post. Share it only with Samsung, your carrier or the seller in a private channel.
When you are buying a phone, judge the seller and the listing separately from the phone itself. The identifiers and tests described here are only as useful as the paperwork you can match them against.

What the official sources do not establish
Samsung’s support articles describe procedures, not statistics. They do not publish a figure for how many Galaxy phones are counterfeit, and they do not describe a public service that verifies authenticity from an IMEI alone. The steps above are therefore the most reliable route available to a consumer: consistent identifiers, a clear purchase record, a valid support route for your region and a working device. If a phone fails any of these, the official sources give you no basis to call it original.
