Start with the official PC performance tier closest to your hardware
Naughty Dog’s September 28, 2022 PC specifications describe four target configurations. They are useful starting points, not independent benchmark results or promises that every scene will hold the listed frame rate.

How to tune settings for your frame-rate goal
- Choose a realistic resolution and target. If your PC is close to Naughty Dog’s Recommended tier, begin at 1080p and 30 fps. Its 1440p/60 High target uses a substantially faster CPU and GPU. The published Ultra tier targets 4K/60 on Ultra with still stronger hardware. Official PC tiers
- Set the matching preset as your baseline. Use Medium or High when your hardware resembles the corresponding tier; treat Ultra as an option for a PC near the listed Ultra class, not a default to chase on every system.
- Compare performance in the same scene. Play a repeatable section, note whether you meet your target, then change one option at a time. This makes it easier to tell whether an adjustment helped. The official feature information confirms adjustable texture and model quality, anisotropic filtering, shadows, reflections, and ambient occlusion, but does not rank their frame-time costs across PCs. - Try FSR 2 if native rendering falls short. PlayStation lists FSR 2 temporal upscaling as a supported option intended to boost frame rates across compatible graphics cards. - Check the game’s installation and system requirements. Confirm that the PC meets the stated OS, DirectX, storage-space, and hardware requirements before treating settings as the only possible cause of poor performance.
What to expect from graphics, upscaling, and storage options
Graphics options
PC features include 4K and ultrawide monitor support, GPU and VRAM detection and management options, and adjustable texture and model quality, anisotropic filtering, shadows, reflections, and ambient occlusion. FSR 2
FSR 2 is a supported temporal upscaling option, not a specified fixed FPS boost. Its practical result depends on the PC and chosen settings; compare your frame rate and image quality rather than assuming one mode is best for everyone.

HDD versus SSD
Naughty Dog permits an HDD in the Minimum tier, recommends an SSD for its 1080p High Recommended tier, and lists SSD storage for the two higher tiers. This makes an SSD a storage recommendation for users on an HDD, but the published specifications do not say that switching storage will increase frame rates. If performance is poor, update and verify the installation
Naughty Dog’s PC Version 1.1.20381 release notes, dated October 28, 2022, say: “General stability & performance improvements.” The notes do not establish which version is latest today or identify a particular setting as a fix for every performance issue. PC presets are not the console display modes
Do not confuse the PC hardware tiers with the console collection’s Fidelity, Performance, and Performance+ display modes. Naughty Dog’s support article describes those console modes as targets of 30 fps, 60 fps, and 120 fps respectively, with Performance+ requiring a compatible 120 Hz display.
