UGREEN’s HomeAgent promises to bundle smart-home control, local storage and computing in one appliance. Running Home Assistant on a UGREEN DXP-series NAS offers a more self-managed alternative. The key tradeoff is integration and maintenance: HomeAgent is marketed as the more integrated route, while the NAS approach gives you more control but leaves you responsible for the software stack, backups and troubleshooting.
This is a reported comparison, not a firsthand account of replacing one system with the other. UGREEN currently describes HomeAgent as a crowdfunding reservation, with estimated shipments for some models beginning in 2027. Its features, prices and ship dates are campaign information, not established retail terms.

What the two setups are
UGREEN describes HomeAgent as a local-first hub that combines storage, computing and smart-home control. It is intended to work with UGREEN products such as SynCare cameras, smart speakers and the Gallery E-Paper Smart Frame, as well as compatible third-party devices. Those are vendor descriptions; they do not establish independently tested privacy, performance or compatibility results.
The DIY option is Home Assistant running on UGREEN DXP-series NAS hardware. UGREEN says Home Assistant is available through its NAS App Center and describes installations using Docker or a virtual machine. It also describes Home Assistant OS as an all-in-one package. The deployment can use the NAS as a host, but it remains a system the owner operates and maintains.

What HomeAgent promises—and what remains to be verified
UGREEN calls HomeAgent an “Agentic AI Local Hub,” advertises its Uliya voice assistant and says its local language-model approach is built around Qwen3. The company also claims local AI processing and onboard storage for supported features. Those claims should be treated as vendor statements: the available information does not independently validate performance or establish where every data flow runs.
UGREEN lists 26 TOPS of local AI performance for HA100 and 205 TOPS for HA100 Pro. These are vendor specifications, not benchmark results. For MasterAgent MA100, UGREEN lists 2,070 TFLOPS using Sparse FP4 and an NVIDIA Thor T5000; TOPS and TFLOPS are different reported units and should not be treated as directly comparable.

Check device compatibility by exact model
A brand appearing in a compatibility list does not mean every product from that brand, or every function of a product, will work. UGREEN’s examples include Aqara, Philips, SwitchBot, Govee, Tapo and Eve, while its guidance stresses checking the exact model and device type.
- Write down the exact model number of each device you want to use and the functions you rely on, such as sensors, automations or camera features.
- Check those models against the compatibility information for the specific HomeAgent model you are considering. Treat an unlisted device as unconfirmed, not automatically incompatible.
- For a NAS installation, identify each device’s protocol—such as Wi-Fi, Matter, Zigbee or Thread—and check whether your chosen installation needs a separate coordinator or additional network configuration.
- Confirm that the device functions you need are supported, not just basic pairing. A connection alone does not establish that every feature is available.
Home Assistant Green is a separate dedicated-hardware alternative, rather than a UGREEN NAS or a HomeAgent model. Home Assistant’s official product information recommends an optional Connect ZBT-2 for Zigbee or Thread; that limited detail is not enough to make a full specification comparison here.

What the campaign prices and dates mean
UGREEN’s 2026 campaign information lists the following Super Early Bird prices and MSRPs. These are campaign figures, not confirmed ongoing retail prices. UGREEN says final features, specifications and packaging may change before mass production, and reservations and shipping depend on the campaign and market.

HomeAgent may suit you if
- You want an appliance marketed to combine storage, computing and smart-home control rather than assembling and maintaining a host yourself.
- Your devices and the features you need are confirmed for the exact HomeAgent model.
- You are comfortable evaluating a crowdfunding reservation and its estimated future shipping rather than buying an established, broadly shipping retail product.
A NAS-hosted Home Assistant setup may suit you if
- You value Home Assistant’s customization and are willing to maintain its container or virtual machine, updates, backups and troubleshooting.
- You already have a suitable NAS or want to choose your own host, storage and device integrations.
- You are prepared to identify and add any needed radios, voice services or camera components rather than assuming they are built in.
For either path, compare the whole system rather than a hub price against a software installation: account for the NAS and drives, any required radios, and the camera equipment or services you intend to use. The available vendor information does not establish a universal winner or a like-for-like total cost.
