Choose the TerraMaster F4-424 if dual 2.5GbE is enough, its Intel N95 meets your needs, and you can buy it at a substantially lower local price. Neither is a universal winner: your network, drives, software requirements, availability and workload decide the better purchase.
Both are four-bay, diskless-style NAS enclosures. You must buy compatible SATA hard drives or SSDs separately, and both also provide two M.2 slots. The comparison below separates documented hardware from assumptions that cannot be proven without matched testing.

The Pentium Gold 8505 and 64GB ceiling give the UGREEN more apparent expansion headroom on paper. That is not a benchmark result, and the available evidence does not establish a percentage advantage over the N95. Treat the processor difference as a planning signal rather than a guaranteed application-performance ranking.
When the UGREEN is the better choice
You already have, or will build, a 10GbE network
The DXP4800 Plus is the only model here with a 10GbE port. That matters when the NAS, switch, cabling and client computer can all negotiate 10GbE and your workload can generate enough concurrent traffic to use it. Large file transfers, multiple editing clients, or several simultaneous backup jobs are the kinds of situations in which the extra interface can remove a network bottleneck.
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
A 10GbE socket by itself does not make every transfer faster. If your switch, workstation or cabling remains limited to 2.5GbE, the NAS will operate at the fastest common link. Check the port on the client that will do the actual work, not only the specification of the NAS. You may also need a 10GbE switch or adapter, which changes the total project cost.
You need a higher memory ceiling
UGREEN lists support for up to 64GB of memory. TerraMaster lists 8GB of DDR5 non-ECC SODIMM memory, one slot and support up to 32GB. A larger ceiling is useful when you intend to run several containers, virtual machines or memory-heavy services, provided UGOS Pro and those applications support the configuration you plan to install. It does not make a lightly used backup server faster by itself.
Your workload benefits from more CPU headroom
The DXP4800 Plus uses an Intel Pentium Gold 8505, while the F4-424 uses an Intel N95. The published specifications suggest the UGREEN has more room for demanding or concurrent tasks, but no matched benchmark was established for these two enclosures. Do not convert the model names into a claimed performance percentage. If application responsiveness is critical, look for testing of your exact software stack rather than relying on the CPU labels.

Dual 2.5GbE is sufficient
The F4-424 has two 2.5GbE ports. This can suit a home or small office whose existing switch and clients already use 2.5GbE and do not need a 10GbE uplink. Two ports may also be useful for separate network connections or supported link-aggregation arrangements, but the benefit depends on your switch, operating-system support and traffic pattern. Do not assume that two ports double the speed of one individual file transfer.
The local price gap is meaningful
The TerraMaster is the sensible value choice when it is substantially cheaper in your market and still satisfies your storage, network and application requirements. The official store page displayed $499.99 when checked and indicated that the product was out of stock. That is a dated page observation, not a promise of current price or availability.
You want the stated Btrfs or EXT4 choices
TerraMaster explicitly lists Btrfs and EXT4 for internal drives. File-system choice affects the features and maintenance model available in the NAS software. Select only a format supported by the applications and recovery procedures you intend to use; changing formats later can require moving the data and rebuilding the volume.

Network decision: 10GbE versus dual 2.5GbE
Start with a diagram of the actual path between your main computer and the NAS:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches- NAS port and negotiated link speed
- Switch port and backplane capability
- Client computer port or adapter
- Cabling category and length
- Whether several clients will transfer at the same time
If any component is slower, it becomes the practical limit for that connection. The UGREEN gives you a 10GbE upgrade path without replacing the NAS. The TerraMaster keeps every listed network port at 2.5GbE, which may be simpler and less expensive when that is already the fastest hardware in your network.
For a single household user streaming media and running routine backups, network speed is often less important than reliable drives, a sensible backup plan and software that supports the required clients. For a workstation moving large project files, the 10GbE option can be decisive if the workstation and switch are ready for it.
Storage layout and capacity planning
Four SATA bays are the foundation
Both enclosures accept four SATA drives and are sold without those drives. Budget for the disks, installation time and a replacement drive. Confirm the exact compatibility list for the model and region before purchasing, especially if you plan to use high-capacity disks, SSDs or a mixture of drive types.
M.2 slots are additional design flexibility
Each product lists two M.2 slots; TerraMaster specifies them as NVMe slots, while the UGREEN listing identifies two M.2 slots without the same level of detail in the captured specification. Verify the supported M.2 form factors and approved uses before ordering. An M.2 device may be used for caching, applications or another function depending on the operating system, but do not assume a cache automatically improves every workload.
RAID choice changes usable space and protection
UGREEN explicitly lists JBOD, Basic, RAID 0, RAID 1, RAID 5, RAID 6 and RAID 10. TerraMaster’s listing states that usable capacity depends on the RAID type. RAID level determines how much raw capacity is available, how many drive failures the array can tolerate and what rebuild behavior you face. RAID is not a backup: accidental deletion, malware, theft and a failed enclosure can still remove access to every copy.

- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
TerraMaster lists a maximum of 88TB raw capacity using four 22TB drives. “Raw” is the sum of the drive labels before file-system overhead, RAID protection and other reserved space. The usable figure will therefore be lower and depends on the selected array. The UGREEN listing used for this comparison does not provide an equivalent maximum-capacity figure.
Software, applications and support: what is and is not established
UGREEN identifies UGOS Pro as the DXP4800 Plus operating system. TerraMaster describes TOS as its Linux-based NAS operating system. The available product information does not provide a current, version-matched comparison of application catalogs, update cadence, security history, setup experience or support lifetime.
Before buying, make a short requirements list and verify each item against the current software documentation for the exact model:

These figures are not a synchronized, current-market price comparison. Recheck both seller pages in your country on the same date. Then add four compatible drives, any memory upgrade, a 10GbE switch or adapter if you choose the UGREEN for that capability, and a backup destination. A cheaper enclosure can become the more expensive system if it requires network upgrades or cannot be obtained when you need it.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
- Confirm compatibility. Check the vendor’s current drive list, M.2 requirements, memory specification and regional power accessories. Keep purchase records for every drive.
- Install the drives while the enclosure is powered off. Label each disk so you can identify it during troubleshooting. Do not mix new and previously configured disks without understanding how the NAS will treat existing metadata.
- Connect the network deliberately. Use the UGREEN 10GbE port only if the switch and client support that link; otherwise use its 2.5GbE port. Connect the TerraMaster to one or both 2.5GbE ports according to the switch and operating-system documentation.
- Boot and update the NAS software. Record the installed UGOS Pro or TOS version before creating data volumes. Apply updates from the vendor’s official channel and reboot if required.
- Create the storage pool and volume. Select the RAID level based on capacity and fault tolerance, not on the largest headline number. Confirm which disks are members before accepting the destructive initialization prompt.
- Choose the file system and shared-folder policy. TerraMaster lists Btrfs and EXT4; choose the option that matches your backup, snapshot and application requirements. Use separate shares and least-privilege accounts.
- Configure notifications and health checks. Add email or other supported alerts, schedule disk tests and verify that a failed-disk warning reaches you before trusting the NAS with the only copy of important files.
- Test recovery. Restore a sample file, document the administrator credentials and write down the drive order, RAID level and backup location. A backup that has never been restored is an assumption, not a verified recovery plan.
Best fit by common use case
Home backup and streaming
Either model can be appropriate for a household four-bay backup and media repository if its software supports your clients. Favor the TerraMaster when dual 2.5GbE is enough and its price or availability is clearly better. Favor the UGREEN when you expect to move large files from a 10GbE-equipped workstation or want the option to expand memory beyond 32GB.

Photo, video and creative-project storage
Map the network path before deciding. A 10GbE connection can be valuable for large project files only when the workstation, switch and NAS are all ready for it. If the rest of the studio is 2.5GbE, TerraMaster may meet the practical requirement without the cost of a 10GbE infrastructure upgrade.
Containers, virtual machines and many services
The UGREEN’s listed Pentium Gold 8505 and 64GB maximum provide more specification headroom than the TerraMaster’s N95 and 32GB ceiling. Confirm that UGOS Pro or TOS supports the exact services, storage drivers and memory configuration you need; the published specifications do not prove application performance.
Small-office file sharing
Prioritize user permissions, backup clients, alerting, update policy and support terms. Choose the network layout your switch and clients can actually use. Two 2.5GbE ports may be sufficient, while the UGREEN’s 10GbE port is useful if the office already has compatible infrastructure.
Lowest initial enclosure cost
Use the dated displayed prices only as context. If the TerraMaster is available locally at a meaningful discount, it may be the better value. If it is out of stock, the UGREEN may be the practical purchase even before considering its additional network and memory capability.
Common buying mistakes and fixes
Confusing F4-424 variants
TerraMaster sells models with similar names, including the F4-424 Pro, F4-424 Max and F4-425 Plus. Verify the exact model number on the listing, invoice and device label. Their specifications should not be substituted for the F4-424 discussed here.

Buying four drives without a backup plan
RAID protects availability against some drive failures; it does not protect against deletion, encryption malware, fire, theft or a failed NAS. Keep a second copy on a separate device or location and periodically perform a real restore.
Paying for 10GbE that the network cannot use
Inventory your switch, client adapters and cables first. If every client is 2.5GbE, the UGREEN’s port remains an upgrade option rather than an immediate performance benefit.
Using headline capacity as usable capacity
TerraMaster’s 88TB figure is raw capacity with four 22TB drives. RAID protection, formatting and reserved space reduce what users can store. Plan from the usable figure reported by the configured volume, not the sum printed on the drive labels.
Assuming a larger CPU or RAM number guarantees speed
The UGREEN’s processor and memory ceiling are specification advantages, not independent benchmark results. Match the NAS to the applications you will actually run and verify software support before spending on upgrades.
Final buying decision
Buy the UGREEN DXP4800 Plus when 10GbE is part of your near-term network plan, when you need the option of up to 64GB RAM, or when your workload is likely to demand more CPU and memory headroom. Buy the TerraMaster F4-424 when dual 2.5GbE is adequate, its 8GB-to-32GB memory range is enough, and its local price and stock situation are clearly better.
TerraMaster advertises a “140% performance boost over its predecessor,” but the captured product listing provides no test methodology. Treat that statement as a vendor claim, not independent evidence. No matched benchmark or software-ecosystem evaluation establishes a universal winner between these two NAS enclosures.
