Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteChoose the UGREEN DXP4800 Plus if built-in 10GbE, more memory headroom and a faster published CPU platform are priorities. Choose the Synology DS923+ if your work depends on DSM, Synology’s package ecosystem or its established business features. Both are diskless four-bay NAS enclosures with two M.2 slots, so the better purchase depends on software requirements, network infrastructure and the complete upgrade bill—not on core counts alone.

Where the DXP4800 Plus has the clearest hardware advantage
Built-in 10GbE changes the networking calculation
The DXP4800 Plus includes 10GbE and 2.5GbE, whereas the DS923+ starts with two 1GbE ports. If you already have a 10GbE switch, compatible network adapters and cabling, UGREEN’s port avoids the cost and installation of an add-on card. A 10GbE interface is also useful when several clients share large files, back up workstations simultaneously or edit media from a central volume.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →That port does not automatically make every transfer ten times faster. The NAS disks or SSDs, client adapter, switch, cabling, protocol overhead and the particular workload all impose limits. A single mechanical-disk workload may not saturate 10GbE, while many concurrent users or SSD-backed volumes are more likely to benefit. On a 1GbE or 2.5GbE network, the headline difference is much less important; the DXP4800 Plus can still connect, but its unused bandwidth is not delivering a practical advantage.
#1 Best Overall
- High-Performance NAS with Powerful Procesor: DXP4800 Plus is ideal for small offices, & More. You can enjoy smooth performance and seamless collaboration, while making use of advanced features like Docker and virtual machines. It works semalessly across every device inluding Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, Android or Google services and so on.
- Better Way to Store Than External Drives: NAS offers centralized storage, automatic backups, remote access, and a wide range of RAID options for easy data recovery even if a drive fails. Massive Storage Capacity: Never worry about storage limits again. With up 144TB capacity, you can store 50 million 1MB photos or 98K 1.5GB movies,5 million 30MB songs! *Hard Drives not included.
- Super-Fast Transfers: Back up 1GB in less than a second using either the 10GbE network port or the 10Gbps USB ports.
- Secure Private Cloud: Retain 100% data ownership with advanced encryption to protect your files. Flexible permission management makes it easy to protect your privacy when collaborating with others.
- AI-Powered Photo Album: Automatically organizes your photos by recognizing faces, scenes, objects, and locations. It can also instantly remove duplicates, freeing up storage space and saving you time.
With the DS923+, budget for Synology’s optional E10G22-T1-Mini module if 10GbE is a present requirement. Also include a suitable switch, transceivers or RJ-45 cabling and client-side adapters. Comparing the bare enclosures while omitting those parts produces a misleading total.
More published CPU and memory headroom
UGREEN specifies a Pentium Gold 8505 with five cores and six threads, 8 GB of DDR5 memory and expansion to 64 GB. Synology specifies a dual-core, four-thread Ryzen R1600, 4 GB of DDR4 ECC memory and expansion to 32 GB. Those figures make the DXP4800 Plus the more flexible starting point for multiple containers, heavier indexing, simultaneous file services or experiments that need additional memory.
They are not a universal speed verdict. NAS performance depends on storage layout, network path, software optimization and the exact mix of jobs. A lightly used file server may show little difference, while a workload combining containers, virtual machines and several users can expose the larger memory ceiling. Treat the processor and RAM numbers as capacity indicators, then verify that the applications you need run on the chosen operating system.

HDMI and SD-card convenience
The DXP4800 Plus lists an HDMI output and an SD card reader. Those connections can simplify direct-monitor administration or importing camera cards, depending on how UGOS Pro implements them in the current release. They are useful differentiators for a content-creation workstation, but they should not outweigh a required software package or backup workflow.

Why the DS923+ can still be the better business NAS
DSM is the central product decision
The DS923+ runs Synology DSM. Its datasheet documents Btrfs and ext4, multiple network protocols, directory-service integration, security controls, virtualization integrations and first-party packages. These capabilities matter when the NAS must join an existing identity system, provide controlled shared folders, support a defined backup policy, host business services or integrate with a documented virtualization workflow.
UGREEN itself acknowledges this distinction. Its comparison FAQ states: “Where Synology pulls ahead is in the maturity of its DSM software, its larger first-party app ecosystem, and its longer track record with enterprise features such as Active Backup for Business.” That is a vendor-authored comparison rather than an independent ranking, but it accurately identifies the key trade-off a buyer should investigate.
Before buying, list every package that is non-negotiable—backup agents, surveillance, directory connectors, synchronization tools, virtualization components and media applications—and verify current support for the exact model and DSM release. A theoretically faster enclosure is a poor fit if it cannot run the software that protects or operates your data.
UGOS Pro is approachable but less mature in the cited review
IT Pro found UGOS Pro approachable but less deep than DSM at the time of its review. The reviewer counted 29 applications in the App Center then and noted missing network services and selected software. That count and those omissions describe the review period, not a permanent inventory; UGOS Pro can change through updates.

The same review identified Docker and a virtual-machine application as possible ways for technically confident users to fill some gaps. Those routes require more administration than a first-party package, and compatibility, updates and support remain your responsibility. If you are comfortable maintaining containers and virtual machines, UGREEN’s hardware headroom can be attractive. If you want a documented, integrated business workflow, DSM’s established packages may save more time than extra CPU capacity.
What independent performance evidence actually shows
No directly matched independent benchmark of the DXP4800 Plus and DS923+ was established in the available sources. The published numbers for UGREEN come from IT Pro’s review and should be read as results from one configuration, not as a head-to-head victory.
| IT Pro test | Reported result | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|
| ATTO, 4KB operations | At least 64 MB/s | Measured on the review system; small-block behavior is workload- and configuration-dependent |
| ATTO, larger operations | At least 580 MB/s | Shows the potential of the tested disk/SSD/cached volumes and network path, not a guaranteed transfer rate |
| 11.1 GB Windows copy, fastest write | 58.37 MB/s | A real file-copy result from the reviewer’s setup, substantially below the largest ATTO figure |
| 11.1 GB Windows copy, read | 75.84 MB/s | Another configuration-specific result, not a DS923+ comparison |
| Plex transcoding test | Not run | No conclusion about transcoding capability should be drawn from this review |
IT Pro used a PC with a 5GbE adapter connected to a 10GbE switch. The contrast between ATTO and the Windows copy illustrates why a specification sheet or synthetic benchmark cannot predict every transfer. Cache behavior, file size, protocol, client software and the underlying drives all matter. Use the figures to understand the range of observed behavior, not to promise a particular speed in your home or office.
Storage layout: four bays, two M.2 slots and different approaches
Both enclosures need a drive plan
Each NAS has four SATA bays and two M.2 slots, but neither includes storage. Price four suitable HDDs or SSDs, account for the desired redundancy and leave room for replacement drives. NAS-rated disks are a sensible starting point; for example, Seagate describes IronWolf Pro as purpose-built for NAS. Confirm the exact model, capacity and regional compatibility before ordering, because support lists and availability can change.

You will save $6,568.81 over 10 years with UGREEN NAS! *NAS cost based on DH4300 Plus + 12TB HDD; cloud cost based on 12TB plan (e.g. $59.99/month).
- Your Data, You Control:No third-party clouds, no hidden access, UGREEN NAS provides a more secure and private data storage solution. It stores data locally on your private hard drives and does automatic backups. Thus, you can keep full control over it. The advanced encryption is TRUSTe certified in the United States and is awarded the first (and only) ETSI EN 303 645 certification mark for NAS products by TÜV SÜD Group.
The M.2 slots may be used for NVMe cache or, where the operating system permits it, additional fast storage. Do not assume that adding NVMe automatically accelerates a four-disk array. Cache helps only when the access pattern, cache policy and working set benefit from it; it also adds cost and another component to monitor.
RAID and SHR are protection against a drive failure—not backup
UGREEN lists JBOD, Basic, RAID 0, 1, 5, 6 and 10. Synology documents those conventional concepts alongside SHR, which can simplify expansion and capacity use when drive sizes differ. RAID 0 provides no redundancy; RAID 1, 5, 6 and 10 trade usable capacity and fault tolerance differently. The right choice depends on how many drive failures you must survive, rebuild risk, performance needs and the value of the data.
Neither RAID nor SHR protects against accidental deletion, ransomware, theft, fire or a faulty synchronization job. Keep an independent backup, ideally with a copy disconnected or stored off-site. Confirm usable capacity with the current calculator for the selected system, drive sizes and layout rather than relying on raw-terabyte arithmetic. Mixed-capacity efficiency depends on the platform and array design.
Total cost: compare the complete system, not the empty enclosure
Prices vary by country, seller and date, and no synchronized same-market price was established for both models. A UK UGREEN product page displayed £545.49 when accessed, but that is a volatile regional snapshot and should not be compared with an older or differently regionalized DS923+ listing.

Build a like-for-like worksheet containing:
- The diskless NAS price in the same region and on the same date.
- Four drives of the required capacity and endurance, plus a replacement-drive plan.
- An E10G22-T1-Mini module for the DS923+ if 10GbE is required.
- A 10GbE or 2.5GbE switch, compatible adapters and cabling.
- Optional NVMe drives, UPS protection and backup media.
- Any software, support or migration cost associated with the required workflow.
This calculation often changes the apparent bargain. The DXP4800 Plus can avoid a 10GbE add-on, while the DS923+ may avoid the labor or risk of replacing a familiar DSM-based backup and identity workflow. Neither conclusion is valid until the same drives and network equipment are included.
Which model fits common workloads?
Choose the DXP4800 Plus for a fast, expandable personal or creator network
It is the stronger candidate when you can use 10GbE now, expect several large simultaneous transfers, want 8 GB of DDR5 before upgrades, or plan to run containers and virtual machines. HDMI and an SD reader can also fit a desk-based media workflow. Make sure UGOS Pro has every backup, synchronization and media service you require before committing.
Choose the DS923+ for DSM-dependent home-office or small-business operations
The DS923+ is the safer fit when staff already use DSM packages, directory integration, documented backup tools or Synology’s business-oriented ecosystem. Its ECC memory and SHR support may also be more important than a higher headline core count for a conservative storage deployment. If 10GbE is essential, add the module and include it in the budget.

Choose based on software when the NAS is infrastructure
For a household file share, either platform can meet the basic requirement with suitable drives and a backup. For an office NAS that must authenticate users, run scheduled protection, integrate with existing services and remain predictable through upgrades, software support and administration effort should decide the purchase. Hardware headroom cannot compensate for an unavailable package or an unsupported workflow.
A practical comparison process before you buy
- Write the workload. Record users, simultaneous transfers, container or virtual-machine needs, media tasks, backup targets and identity requirements.
- Map the network. Identify switch speeds, client adapters, cable categories and the fastest path available today. Mark whether 10GbE would be used immediately or only in a future upgrade.
- Check applications. Verify each must-have package on the current DXP4800 Plus UGOS Pro release or DS923+ DSM release. Do not rely on an old app count or an assumption of feature parity.
- Design storage. Select drive capacity, redundancy level, M.2 role and an independent backup. Use the applicable current capacity calculator.
- Price the whole deployment. Add drives, network hardware, optional modules, UPS and backup media in one currency and one date.
- Plan recovery. Confirm how you would replace a failed drive, restore a deleted file, rebuild the NAS and recover if the enclosure itself fails.
- Recheck support horizon. Favor the platform whose current documentation and update path match the years you expect to operate it, rather than assuming future features.
Common comparison mistakes
- Treating cores as a benchmark: Published CPU counts do not establish application speed across different operating systems and storage workloads.
- Buying 10GbE without an end-to-end path: A fast NAS port is wasted if the switch, client or cabling remains at 1GbE.
- Comparing empty boxes: Drives and, for the DS923+, a 10GbE module can materially change the total.
- Assuming RAID is backup: Array redundancy does not provide historical recovery or protection from site-level incidents.
- Using an old software inventory: The 29-app UGOS Pro count and missing-service observations came from a particular IT Pro review period; verify the current catalog.
- Expecting synthetic speeds in file copies: IT Pro’s ATTO and Windows-copy results differed sharply, demonstrating the effect of workload and test configuration.
- Ignoring migration effort: A familiar DSM workflow may be worth more than extra hardware capacity when business continuity matters.
Verdict
The UGREEN DXP4800 Plus is the hardware-forward choice: built-in 10GbE, a five-core/six-thread Pentium Gold 8505, 8 GB of DDR5 and expansion to 64 GB give it substantial flexibility for high-speed networks and demanding self-hosted workloads. The Synology DS923+ is the software-forward choice: DSM, SHR, ECC memory and a longer-established package and enterprise-feature track record make it compelling when dependable integration matters more than maximum port speed.
Make the final decision by testing your required applications against the current software releases, then price both systems with identical drives, backup equipment and network upgrades. That process will produce a more reliable answer than choosing from the specification sheet alone.
