It is a less compelling fit for basic file sharing: the NAS is sold without drives, faster networking may require upgrades elsewhere, and reviewers identify software limitations such as the lack of volume encryption. The decision is less about its headline capacity than whether your network, storage plan, and software needs justify the added capability.
What the DXP4800 GT includes
The DXP4800 GT is a four-bay, diskless NAS. It combines four SATA drive bays with two M.2 2280 slots, and bays 1 and 2 also support U.2 drives, according to PCWorld and Notebookcheck. The M.2 slots can serve as read cache or as a separate high-speed storage pool, per PCWorld.

UGREEN’s product page lists two 10GbE LAN ports, an SD 3.0 card reader, HDMI, and USB ports. Notebookcheck lists 8GB of DDR4 memory, expandable to 64GB, plus 64GB of eMMC system storage. Its listed RAID modes are JBOD, Basic, RAID 0, RAID 1, RAID 5, RAID 6, and RAID 10. Check the exact regional product listing and compatibility information before buying drives or memory.
Capacity is a configured ceiling, not included storage
Notebookcheck’s 144TB maximum is calculated from four 32TB SATA drives plus two 8TB M.2 drives; those drives are not included. It is a raw configured-capacity figure, not a promise of 144TB usable in a RAID volume. RAID configuration and formatting affect usable space, and RAID is not a substitute for a separate backup.

RAID support adds data redundancy to help reduce the risk of data loss and improve file recovery in the event of drive failure.
Does dual 10GbE make a practical difference?
The two 10GbE ports are the model’s clearest differentiator, but they do not make every client or network connection operate at 10GbE. Your computer needs a compatible network interface, and a switch may be necessary for the arrangement you want. The storage devices and workload also need to sustain the transfer rate. TechRadar notes that moving to 10GbE can mean upgrading other parts of the network.
In TechRadar’s 2026 test over a 2.5GbE network, the NAS delivered 272.96 MB/s read and 268.35 MB/s write. Those are that reviewer’s results under its test conditions, not guaranteed speeds for every setup. The same reviewer completed a 500GB, two-hour 4K Final Cut Pro X editing project using the NAS. That example indicates a plausible creator workflow, not a universal editing benchmark.

TechRadar also identified a 10GbE switch and USB4-to-10GbE adapter as potential additional setup costs. The prices in that review are dated, so treat them as examples of the components to account for—not current quotes. If your computers connect at ordinary gigabit speeds and you do not plan to upgrade, much of the DXP4800 GT’s networking advantage may go unused.
Can it handle 4K media streaming?
The NAS uses an AMD Ryzen Embedded R2514 processor. PCWorld reports that its integrated Vega graphics support H.264 and H.265 hardware transcoding, but that reviewer did not test multiple simultaneous 4K streams. Android Central reported four simultaneous 4K HDR Plex streams in its own test, using Docker to install Plex and Jellyfin.

Those reports describe different review setups, not a guaranteed stream count. Actual playback depends on codec, bitrate, client capability, software configuration, and whether a stream requires transcoding. If your clients can direct-play your files, that is a different workload from converting several streams on the NAS. Match your codecs and devices to your intended setup rather than buying on the strength of a single stream-count result.
What are the software and memory trade-offs?
UGOS Pro covers common NAS tasks, with a notable security-feature gap
PCWorld describes UGOS Pro as smooth and offering a wide range of apps, while identifying the lack of volume encryption as its most notable shortcoming. NAS Compares characterizes the operating system as less mature than established alternatives for advanced users. These are review assessments, not an exhaustive audit of every feature or firmware version.

Store photos, phone videos, work files, movies, security footage, and smart home data in one place. Free up phones and computers, stop relying on scattered external drives, and say goodbye to “storage full” stress. Drives not included. Purchase HDDs/SSDs from a third party.
What will the complete setup cost?
Because review coverage lists the DXP4800 GT as diskless, budget separately for storage drives. Your total also depends on whether you add M.2 or U.2 storage, upgrade memory, and build out 10GbE connectivity. Retail prices, regional availability, and compatibility can change; the reviewed sources do not establish current live prices.
TechRadar’s review used four Seagate IronWolf 4TB drives and reported an approximate $150 per-drive cost at the time. That figure is historical context from that review, not a current price. Notebookcheck used four WD Red Plus drives in a RAID 5 test. Neither example establishes that a particular drive is the right choice for every buyer.
Who should buy the UGREEN DXP4800 GT?
It fits workloads that use its extra capacity and connectivity
- A home lab, creator, or small team that can use dual 10GbE and has compatible clients or a plan to upgrade its network.
- A storage build that benefits from combining SATA bays with M.2 SSDs or U.2 support in the first two bays.
- A buyer who wants the option of ECC memory and a memory ceiling of 64GB, and is prepared to purchase compatible memory separately.
Consider a simpler four-bay model if you do not need the premium features
- If your main need is basic file sharing and your network will remain slower than 10GbE, the headline networking may not justify choosing this model.
- If volume encryption is essential, the gap reported by PCWorld is a reason to verify current software support or consider another NAS platform.
- If media streaming is the deciding factor, confirm that your codec and client mix suits the NAS; review stream counts are not interchangeable guarantees.
Compare alternatives by the network ports you can actually use, bay and SSD options, memory and ECC support, required software features, and the complete configured cost—not by drive count alone.
