The commonly reported “13% rise” is the rounded figure. The improvement came with a smaller, but still substantial, net loss of about ₹850 crore, so revenue growth has not yet produced full-year profitability.
What changed in Udaan’s financial results?
Financial statements reported by Inc42 show operating revenue of ₹5,134 crore in FY26, compared with ₹4,561 crore in FY25. That is a precise increase of 12.6%; The Economic Times rounded it to 13%. These are operating-revenue figures, not gross merchandise value (GMV).

| Financial year | Revenue trend | What it indicates |
|---|---|---|
| FY23 | Down roughly 40% | Sharp contraction |
| FY24 | Up about 1% to 1.7% | Near-flat stabilisation |
| FY25 | Down about 20% | Another major decline |
| FY26 | Up 12.6% to ₹5,134 crore | First annual growth in four years |
The same Inc42 rendering puts FY26 net loss at ₹851.5 crore, versus ₹1,055.4 crore in FY25. The Economic Times described the loss as approximately ₹850 crore and the reduction as about 19%. Udaan therefore improved both revenue and loss, but it remained loss-making for the full year.
Why did revenue recover?
Udaan shifted away from trying to cover a broad geography and concentrated operations in smaller, denser clusters of pin codes. The model is designed to make each local market economically stronger before the company expands further.
#1 Best Overall
More sales from existing retailers
In an interview with Business Standard, cofounder and CEO Vaibhav Gupta said the largest opportunity was “to win more of existing retailers’ procurement spend, rather than overinvest in customer acquisition or new markets.” A denser cluster gives Udaan more chances to increase order frequency, basket size and product share among retailers it already serves.
Lower fulfilment and procurement costs
Concentrating buyers and sellers in tighter areas can improve warehouse utilisation, purchasing leverage and delivery economics. Udaan says city and category leaders are now assessed on contribution margin, retention, order frequency, basket size, procurement efficiency and fulfilment cost—not only on topline revenue. Gupta described the change by saying that business leaders “now own the economics of their categories and markets, not just topline growth.”
Udaan senior vice president Vishnu Menon told Inc42 that revenue compounded at about 25% across the ten quarters from Q4 CY23 through Q1 CY26, while contribution margin improved by nearly 500 basis points and EBITDA burn declined by about 70%. Those are operating-progress measures over a multi-quarter period; they do not mean the company was profitable for FY26.

How the revenue mix is changing
Private-label staples
Private labels now represent approximately 15% to 25% of staples sales across Udaan’s operating cities, according to Menon’s statement quoted by The Economic Times. Udaan says these products can improve margins, increase the share of a retailer’s spending captured by the platform and extract more value from its existing sourcing and distribution network.
Horeca and institutional procurement
Udaan’s horeca360 business serves hotels, restaurants, caterers and other institutional buyers. It expanded into Hyderabad and Chennai during FY26. In Bengaluru, private labels and HoReCa together contributed about half of Udaan’s revenue, according to Business Standard. That city-level mix is not the same as consolidated company profitability; it shows where the revised model is gaining traction.
Additional distribution through LYNK
Udaan agreed to acquire Swiggy-owned LYNK Logistics in a ₹500 crore all-share transaction. Swiggy is to receive 2.8% of Udaan and invest ₹75 crore. Udaan says the deal adds distribution capacity and retail reach. Gupta told Business Standard, “Rather than trying to build everything ourselves, the combination made sense. We believe that together we are stronger on the B2B side.”

- Compact for travelling
The transaction follows Udaan’s acquisition of ShopKirana in July 2024. Both deals support the company’s distribution and retail coverage, but acquisitions also make the balance-sheet outcome dependent on integration and on the acquired operations generating the expected economics.

Did Udaan become profitable?
No. The FY26 net loss of ₹851.5 crore reported by Inc42 was lower than the ₹1,055.4 crore loss in FY25, a reduction of about 19%, but it is still a large annual loss.
| Measure | FY25 | FY26 | Interpretation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Operating revenue | ₹4,561 crore | ₹5,134 crore | Up 12.6%; rounded to 13% in coverage |
| Net loss | ₹1,055.4 crore | ₹851.5 crore | Down about 19%, but still a loss |
| Contribution margin | Not stated in the cited FY25/FY26 comparison | Improved nearly 500 basis points over the ten quarters from Q4 CY23 to Q1 CY26 | Operating improvement, not consolidated net profit |
| EBITDA burn | Not stated as an absolute amount | Declined about 70% over the same ten-quarter period | Lower cash loss from operations, not proof of profitability |
The distinction matters: a better contribution margin and lower EBITDA burn can make a business more efficient while financing costs, depreciation, exceptional items or other expenses still leave a net loss.

What is supporting the turnaround financially?
In July 2026, Udaan completed a reported $160 million recapitalisation combining fresh equity, new debt and conversion of debt into equity. The package included $45 million of private credit from BlackRock, according to The Economic Times. This funding gives the company additional liquidity while the cluster strategy and acquisitions are being implemented.
However, capital raised is balance-sheet support, not evidence that the operating business has reached sustainable profitability. The LYNK transaction is all-share rather than a cash purchase, while the separate ₹75 crore investment from Swiggy and the recapitalisation change Udaan’s capital structure. Their long-term value depends on future cash generation and successful integration.
Is Udaan’s recovery financially secure?
It is too early to describe the turnaround as secure. Inc42 reported a material going-concern uncertainty in Udaan’s FY26 financial statements. At the end of FY26, current liabilities exceeded current assets by ₹1,391 crore, and total liabilities exceeded total assets by ₹790.9 crore.
Those figures indicate pressure on near-term liquidity and on the company’s overall balance sheet, even after the recapitalisation. Udaan said post-year-end funding and cost reductions should improve operating cash flow. That is management’s expectation, not a completed result.
- Positive evidence: revenue returned to growth, the net loss narrowed, contribution margin improved, EBITDA burn fell and the company is concentrating on higher-density markets.
- Unresolved risk: FY26 still ended with an approximately ₹850 crore net loss and liabilities greater than assets.
- Execution dependency: private-label expansion, horeca360, ShopKirana and LYNK must produce durable margin and cash-flow benefits.
- Funding dependency: the recapitalisation provides runway, but future performance still has to support the enlarged capital structure.
What to watch next
The clearest tests of Udaan’s reset will be whether revenue growth continues without a return to expensive geographic expansion, whether retailer retention and order frequency rise, and whether contribution-margin gains translate into lower consolidated losses and positive operating cash flow. Investors and suppliers should also track liquidity after the recapitalisation, the integration of LYNK, and whether city-level improvements become visible in company-wide results.
For now, Udaan has demonstrated a meaningful operational improvement rather than a completed turnaround: FY26 was the first year of revenue growth after four weak years, but the company remains loss-making and carries the going-concern qualification reported with its financial statements.
