Uber has agreed to buy U.S. workplace-catering platform ezCater for $2.3 billion in cash, but the acquisition has not closed. Announced October 6, 2026, the deal still requires regulatory approvals and other customary closing conditions; the companies said they expect it to close in the coming months without naming a date.

ezCater connects businesses and organizations with catering and workplace meals. Uber says the platform includes more than 140,000 restaurants and supports one-off meetings and events, recurring enterprise catering, and food-spend management. The company also provides customer support around the clock.

The proposed purchase would add ezCater’s business-focused catering capabilities to Uber’s food-delivery operations. Uber says it aims to bring catering and group ordering into Uber Eats, complementing Uber’s consumer and restaurant reach and its relationships with organizations through Uber for Business.

The announced purchase price is $2.3 billion, payable in cash, according to Uber’s October 6 announcement. That is the stated transaction value; the announcement does not set out further deal-structure details here.

Uber also reported that ezCater generated more than $2.5 billion in gross bookings over the trailing twelve months, with year-over-year growth in the high teens. Uber said ezCater was profitable on a non-GAAP operating income basis and had an average order value above $400. These are figures attributed to Uber’s announcement, not independently audited results in the sources available for this report. Gross bookings describe the value of orders placed through a platform; they are not the same as revenue or profit.
Why Uber says it wants ezCater
Uber’s stated rationale is to combine ezCater’s catering and business-to-business expertise with Uber Eats’ consumer and restaurant reach, as well as Uber for Business’ organizational relationships. The company says the combination is intended to help restaurants win larger orders and make group ordering simpler.

Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi said, “Catering is a big business, and can be a huge revenue stream for restaurants.” Whether the proposed combination delivers those benefits will depend on execution after a closing; they are strategic aims, not results established by the announcement.
Has Uber bought ezCater, and when will the deal close?
No. As of the October 6, 2026 announcement, Uber and ezCater have signed an agreement, but the acquisition remains subject to regulatory approvals and customary closing conditions. The companies expect a closing in the coming months, but have not announced a precise date. Reuters, republished by Investing.com, also reported the announced cash value and pending regulatory approval.

Until those conditions are met and the transaction closes, ezCater should be described as a company Uber has agreed to acquire—not as an Uber-owned business. The announcement does not establish the final regulatory outcome or confirm a completed purchase.
