U.S. authorities seized the domain names CFAKE.com and SOCFAKE.com on June 12, 2026, after investigators said the sites published sexual deepfakes of women without their consent. The Department of Justice described the images as digital forgeries of famous women—not child sexual abuse material (CSAM). French prosecutors announced a parallel investigation into CFake and the arrest of a suspect in Nice.
The distinction matters: the FBI’s separate warning that federal law prohibits CSAM, including realistic computer-generated images, does not mean these seized sites were a CSAM case.

Which websites were seized, and who carried out the action?
The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) announced the seizure of CFAKE.com and SOCFAKE.com on June 12, 2026. DOJ said the domains had been used to publish thousands of digitally forged images and videos depicting famous women nude and, in some cases, engaged in sexual activity without consent. The U.S. action was carried out by DOJ and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), under a federal seizure warrant.

It says Italy’s Polizia di Stato Postal and Cybersecurity Police first alerted U.S. law enforcement to the websites. U.S. investigators then shared evidence with French authorities under the Budapest Convention on Cybercrime. DOJ identified the Paris Public Prosecutor’s Office Cybercrime Section and the Paris Gendarmerie Research Section as part of the parallel French investigation.

Were the seized sites selling CSAM?
The cited DOJ and Paris prosecutor releases do not describe the seized sites’ content as CSAM. They describe nonconsensual sexual deepfakes of women. The DOJ release says the domains were used to publish digital forgeries of famous women; the Paris prosecutor describes CFake as a site publishing sexual deepfakes. Do not treat the FBI’s general warning about AI-generated CSAM as evidence about the material on these particular sites.
The FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center said on March 29, 2024, that federal law prohibits CSAM, including realistic computer-generated images. That is general legal context, separate from the June 2026 domain seizure.

What did French prosecutors report about CFake?
In its June 12, 2026 release, the Paris prosecutor said CFake was created in 2007 and reported these figures for the site:

What happened to the CFake administrator?
The Paris prosecutor said the suspect was arrested in Nice on June 10, 2026, and referred to the prosecutor on June 12. A search of the suspect’s home reportedly resulted in the seizure of computer equipment and 34.7 ether. The prosecutor valued the ether at €48,521 in its release and described it as illicit advertising income.
Prosecutors said the suspect faced allegations of administering a platform enabling illicit transactions and complicity in disseminating deepfakes. The prosecutor said he would be tried on July 7, 2026, and that pretrial detention had been requested. The cited releases do not establish the outcome of that hearing or a conviction, so the person should be described as a suspect or accused person, not as someone found guilty.

What the U.S. seizure warrant established—and what it did not
According to DOJ, a federal judge issued the warrant after finding probable cause to believe the domains were being used to commit federal criminal violations of the TAKE IT DOWN Act. A probable-cause finding is the basis for the seizure warrant; it is not a criminal conviction.

DOJ summarizes the act as criminalizing publication, without consent, of digital forgeries that appear to depict an identifiable adult in a sexually explicit manner when the material is not a matter of public concern and the posting is intended to cause harm or actually harms the person. The warrant concerns the U.S. investigation and should not be confused with the allegations being pursued by French prosecutors.
