U Mobile and HLGY Energy Sdn Bhd announced on 12 October 2026 that they had signed a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding to explore smart solar-farm solutions in Malaysia. The proposal combines U Mobile’s ULTRA5G private connectivity with artificial intelligence and industrial automation, with the Kedah Rubber City Solar Power Plant named as the expected first deployment site.
What U Mobile and HLGY Energy announced
The agreement creates a framework for the companies to develop next-generation solar-farm operations rather than confirming a financed, nationwide construction program. U Mobile describes HLGY Energy as a Malaysian renewable-energy developer focused on utility-scale solar and integrated-energy projects under Malaysia’s Corporate Renewable Energy Supply Scheme (CRESS).

Under the proposed collaboration, U Mobile would act as HLGY’s provider of innovation, automation and communications infrastructure. How the proposed 5G-enabled solar farm would work
The private 5G network is intended to provide the communications backbone for equipment and software operating at a solar facility. The announcement names several applications, but it does not specify the network’s radio design, spectrum arrangement or coverage area.
Autonomous drone inspections
Drones could inspect panels and other equipment without requiring an operator to be physically present throughout a flight. A private connection would be intended to carry control, video and inspection data within the site’s operating environment. The companies have not published a flight plan, inspection frequency or autonomy level.
AI-powered analytics
AI systems could process information from solar assets to identify abnormal conditions, support maintenance decisions and monitor generation performance. The announcement does not state which models, sensors or performance thresholds would be used, so these remain proposed capabilities rather than demonstrated results.

Smart CCTV and remote monitoring
Connected cameras and remote-monitoring tools are intended to give operators a more continuous view of equipment and site conditions. Combining those feeds with other operating data could help staff investigate faults or security events without travelling to every location.
Solar generation and battery-storage control
HLGY’s statement says AI integration with solar generation and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) operations could help decide when electricity is stored and supplied. The claimed objectives are to optimise dispatch, reduce electricity costs and extend equipment life. No savings figure, battery specification or control strategy has been disclosed.
Where the first deployment is expected
The Kedah Rubber City Solar Power Plant is the specific project identified for deployment of the 5G monitoring system. It is one of HLGY Energy’s projects in Malaysia. The companies’ broader language about solutions “across Malaysia” refers to the intended portfolio scope, not evidence that every HLGY site is already connected or that a national rollout has begun.

Is this an operational rollout or only an MoU?
It is currently an MoU-led exploration. The agreement is non-binding, so it establishes cooperation areas without confirming a final investment decision, construction contract, operating launch or nationwide funding commitment.

Data Center Dynamics reported on 14 October 2026 that the partners had not disclosed those technical, financial or scheduling details. Until the companies publish a design, timetable or commissioning update, the initiative should be described as a planned demonstration or development effort rather than a completed smart-farm network.
What each company contributes
U Mobile is extending ULTRA5G beyond consumer connectivity into enterprise networking and industrial automation. Its stated role covers the communications infrastructure and the innovation and automation work needed to connect field operations.

Why the partnership matters
Utility-scale solar plants spread equipment over large areas, making inspection, fault detection and operational coordination important parts of running the asset. A dedicated communications layer could give operators more consistent access to cameras, drones and control systems than ad hoc links, while AI could help turn those data streams into maintenance or dispatch decisions.
For U Mobile, the project is a test of whether private 5G can become enterprise infrastructure for energy and other industrial sites. For HLGY, it is an opportunity to examine whether connectivity and automation can improve safety, efficiency and autonomy while supporting Malaysia’s renewable-energy expansion through CRESS. Those benefits remain objectives until a site is deployed and measured.
