Type One Energy announced a $200 million Series B financing on October 6, 2026, to advance its stellarator technology and Project Infinity, a proposed fusion project at the Tennessee Valley Authority’s Bull Run site in East Tennessee. The announcement is a financing milestone—not evidence of an operating commercial fusion reactor. The company describes its planned Infinity Two plant as the “world’s first” commercial fusion plant, a forward-looking claim rather than an achieved status.
What the $200 million financing will fund
Type One Energy says the Series B will support its FusionDirect technology development program and Project Infinity work at TVA’s Bull Run site. Breakthrough Energy Ventures and Clutterbuck Capital co-led the round. The company also named Lowercarbon Capital, Siemens Energy Ventures and SiteGround Capital among the participants, along with other new investors. It characterized the strategic industrial participation as support for a partner-based approach to fusion industrialization. The $200 million is financing, not revenue from electricity sales. Type One Energy’s October 6, 2026 announcement quotes CEO Christofer Mowry saying the funding enables the company to advance its stellarator technology and Project Infinity design activities with industrial partners.

What Project Infinity includes
Project Infinity has two distinct elements in Type One Energy’s description: Infinity One, an engineering prototype, and Infinity Two, a planned commercial fusion plant at TVA’s Bull Run site. TVA says it is working with Type One Energy and Oak Ridge National Laboratory to advance Infinity One. Neither the prototype work nor the proposed commercial plant should be mistaken for an operating power station.

Infinity Two’s planned capacity differs by source
Type One Energy’s October 2026 announcement describes Infinity Two as a 400 MWe plant. TVA’s project overview calls it a planned 350-megawatt fusion pilot plant. These are different source-attributed descriptions of planned capacity; neither is measured output from an operating plant, and the cited material does not reconcile the figures. Type One Energy’s project announcement and TVA’s project overview provide the respective descriptions.

TVA serves more than 10 million people across the Tennessee Valley, according to its overview. That is regional context, not a measure of Infinity Two’s expected output or customer demand. TVA describes potential fusion benefits as reliable and resilient power, low carbon emissions, low radiation levels, no long-term radioactive waste and potential fuel availability. Those are potential technology benefits, not results demonstrated by Infinity Two.
Contracts and licensing are development milestones, not proof of operation
In July 2025, Type One Energy and TVA announced their first commercial contracts related to Project Infinity. The work included developing welding and fabrication techniques tailored to the Infinity One machine and a potential subsequent power plant. The announcement said energy supply to the Tennessee Valley could be possible as early as the mid-2030s; this is a projection, not confirmation of a delivery date. Type One Energy said in January 2026 that it had submitted an initial byproduct material license application in preparation for the project. In August 2026, Tennessee’s environment agency announced that it had issued the company a state fusion-specific byproduct material license. These are regulatory and project-development steps. They do not establish that a reactor has been built, generated net electricity or begun supplying customers. No. The cited project descriptions identify Infinity One as an engineering prototype under development and Infinity Two as a planned plant. The financing, contracts and licensing milestones do not show that Infinity Two is built or producing electricity. Type One Energy’s “world’s first commercial fusion plant” wording describes its ambition for the project, not an independently confirmed operating status. The available cited material does not establish commercial performance, cost or the probability of completion.
