Affiliate is Twitch’s entry-level monetization status; Partner is a selective program for channels that can demonstrate sustained audience performance. Both can earn from subscriptions, Bits, and ads. Partner adds broader controls, support, and feature access, but it does not come with an automatic acceptance or a universally published revenue percentage. Qualifying creators in either status may receive higher subscription rates through the Plus Program.
The practical difference is therefore less about whether you can monetize and more about how difficult the status is to obtain, which tools you receive, which revenue terms apply to your account, and how deductions and payout settings affect the money that reaches you.

Affiliate and Partner at a glance
An Affiliate relationship is Twitch’s defined on-ramp for creators who have reached a small, fixed set of activity and audience milestones. Twitch can invite a channel after all of those milestones are complete. Partner is intended for established channels: you must complete Path to Partner, demonstrate sustained performance, and submit an application that Twitch reviews individually.
Neither status is a salary or a guarantee of a particular monthly income. Revenue depends on the number and type of paid subscriptions, Bits used by viewers, advertising demand, audience location, taxes, payment processing, currency conversion, and other deductions. Twitch reports payouts in U.S. dollars.

Affiliate eligibility: the fixed entry requirements
Twitch’s Affiliate FAQ lists four achievements. You must complete every one before Twitch sends an invitation:
- Four hours streamed.
- Four different stream days.
- A minimum three-average-viewer level over any four stream days in the last 30 days.
The viewer requirement is an average-viewer measure over the qualifying days, not a requirement to have three people watching every second. The four-day window and the other achievements are evaluated together, so reaching one milestone does not create an Affiliate relationship by itself.
What happens after the milestones
Completion makes you eligible for Twitch’s invitation process; it is not a request to be accepted on the basis of a subjective review like Partner. Check the progress indicators Twitch provides in your creator tools, make sure your account and payment information can be completed, and read the current Affiliate agreement before accepting it. Twitch can change program terms, so the agreement and the invitation shown on your account control the current details.

Partner applicants must complete Path to Partner and, in each of the two consecutive months before applying, have at least six individual streams that meet a 75-average-viewer requirement over a 30-day period. Twitch says front-page promotions and embeds do not count toward this calculation.
These figures are a qualification signal, not an acceptance promise. Twitch reviews applications, and the published criteria do not provide a universal acceptance rate. A channel can meet the displayed performance target and still be declined if Twitch’s review determines that the broader Partner requirements are not satisfied. Twitch also states that Partner Manager eligibility is invitation-only and that its criteria may change.
How to interpret the 75-viewer target
The requirement is sustained and multi-month. One unusually large stream, a raid-driven spike, or a single month above the target does not replace the two-month pattern. Plan around the qualifying stream count as well as the average: six separate streams in each month are required, so a creator who streams only a few times cannot meet the stated pattern even if one broadcast is very large.

What does not count
Front-page promotion and embedded viewing are specifically excluded from the Partner calculation. Treat the stated average as a measure of the channel’s qualifying stream performance rather than assuming every view visible in analytics will be credited to the application.
Subscription revenue share
Affiliate standard terms
Twitch’s Affiliate FAQ states: “The standard subscription revenue split for Affiliates is 50/50 between you and Twitch.” The split is applied after applicable deductions, so it is not necessarily half of the retail price a viewer sees. Taxes, payment processing, currency conversion, regional pricing, and other adjustments can reduce the net amount before the creator receives it.
Partner terms are not one universal percentage
Twitch does not publish a single Partner subscription percentage that applies to every Partner. Your agreement and the terms attached to your account determine the applicable rate. Do not assume that obtaining Partner automatically changes every subscription to a particular split.
The Plus Program can apply to either status
The Plus Program offers enhanced net subscription revenue shares to qualifying Affiliates and Partners:
| Plus level | Qualification stated by Twitch | Net subscription share | How long it lasts |
|---|---|---|---|
| Level 1 | At least 100 Plus Points for three consecutive months | 60/40 | 12 months from qualification unless continued under the program terms |
| Level 2 | At least 300 Plus Points for three consecutive months | 70/30 | 12 months from qualification unless continued under the program terms |
“Net” matters: the percentages apply to net subscription revenue after the deductions defined by the program, not automatically to the subscription’s sticker price. Plus Points are program qualification units, not dollars, and meeting a points threshold for one month is insufficient because Twitch requires three consecutive months.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsThe Plus rate is an opportunity available to qualifying creators in both statuses. It should not be used as evidence that every Partner receives 70/30 or that every Affiliate remains at 50/50 forever; the account’s current qualification and terms decide which rate applies.

Bits, Cheering, and Bits-enabled Extensions
Bits used in Cheers
Twitch’s Partner overview says: “Twitch provides participating Partners a share of the revenue Twitch receives from Bits equal to 1 cent per Bit used to Cheer for them.” Twitch’s Cheering documentation also confirms that both Partners and Affiliates receive revenue from Bits. The published material does not state a separate cents-per-Bit figure for Affiliates, so do not project the Partner figure onto an Affiliate account without checking the current terms shown to that creator.
Bits in Extensions
Eligible Affiliates and Partners ordinarily receive 80% of 1 U.S. cent per Bit used in a Bits-enabled Extension; the remaining 20% goes to the extension developer. This is a different transaction from a normal Cheer. A creator should identify where the Bit was used before applying a payout estimate.
Why Bits revenue can look different from subscription revenue
Bits are viewer purchases that are then used to Cheer or interact with an extension. The creator-side amount depends on the transaction type and eligibility, while subscriptions use the applicable net-revenue split. Keeping separate records for subscriptions, normal Cheers, and extension Bits makes the payout statement easier to reconcile.
Advertising differences
Both Affiliates and Partners can monetize ads once they meet Twitch’s monetization eligibility. Partners receive a share of ad revenue and can determine mid-roll length and frequency through the dashboard. Twitch’s feature comparison also lists advertising for Affiliates, but the available controls and account terms can differ.
Ad earnings are not a fixed amount per stream or per viewer. Demand, viewer location, ad availability, frequency, and the portion of viewers who are served an ad all affect the result. A Partner’s additional scheduling controls can help manage the viewing experience, but they do not guarantee a particular revenue level.
Tools, support, and feature access
The main non-financial Partner advantage is access. Twitch describes Partners as receiving broader tools, support, and feature access than Affiliates. Its feature matrix lists Creator Sponsorship Profile and StreamElements Sponsorships for both Affiliates and Partners, so those opportunities are not, by themselves, exclusive Partner benefits.

Partner Manager assignment is separate from the Partner badge. Twitch says Partner Manager eligibility is invitation-only and subject to criteria that may change. A Partner should therefore treat a manager, special feature, or support channel as an account-specific benefit rather than a guaranteed entitlement of every Partner application.

Twitch documents a Net-15 schedule for both Affiliates and Partners. After the earning month closes, revenue becomes eligible and payment is generally initiated around the 15th. The balance must reach the applicable minimum, and the payment account must be complete and eligible.
| Payment method | Minimum balance Twitch documents | Timing and notes |
|---|---|---|
| ACH or direct deposit | $50 | Net-15; processing time varies by bank. |
| eCheck or local bank | $50 | Net-15; availability depends on region and account setup. |
| PayPal | $50 | Net-15; PayPal processing and account rules may affect receipt. |
| Check | $50 | Net-15; delivery time is separate from Twitch’s submission date. |
| Wire transfer | $100 | The higher minimum reflects transfer fees. |
If the payable balance is below the threshold, Twitch rolls it into the next month rather than sending a smaller payment. After Twitch submits a payout, delivery typically takes three to five business days, but the actual time varies by method, weekends, holidays, banks, and payment providers.
Affiliate and Partner payout fees
Twitch’s feature matrix indicates payout fees for Affiliates and that Twitch covers fees for Partners. Because the treatment can depend on the payment method and the current agreement, verify the fee line in the dashboard and your agreement before treating that distinction as a guaranteed amount. The threshold and timing above describe Twitch’s published mechanics; they do not promise that every method is cost-free.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Why the amount you receive can be lower than the headline split
A share percentage is only one step in the calculation. Twitch identifies several possible deductions or adjustments:
- Taxes or withholding required for your account or jurisdiction.
- Payment-processing charges.
- Bank or transfer fees.
- Currency-conversion costs.
- Regional subscription pricing and the resulting net revenue.
- Other deductions specified by the relevant agreement or program terms.
Twitch reports payouts in USD. If your bank account is denominated in another currency, the bank or payment provider may convert the payment after Twitch submits it. Keep the Twitch payout statement, payment-provider record, and tax documentation together; the amount shown as revenue in one system may not match the amount that arrives in your local account.
Best Value
Which status makes sense for a creator?
| Your situation | Most relevant interpretation |
|---|---|
| You are building a first monetizable audience and can meet the four basic activity metrics. | Affiliate is the realistic next milestone. It gives access to subscriptions, Bits, and ads without waiting for a selective Partner review. |
| You already sustain the stated audience level across the required two-month pattern. | Complete Path to Partner and apply, while recognizing that Twitch still makes an individual decision. |
| You are focused on subscription economics rather than status labels. | Check whether your account qualifies for the Plus Program; its enhanced rates can apply to either status. |
| You need detailed ad scheduling, broader support, or additional feature access. | Partner offers the stronger feature package, but access is not a substitute for meeting the performance and review requirements. |
| You are below the payout minimum. | Revenue remains in the account and rolls forward. Changing status alone does not remove the minimum-balance rule. |
For many channels, Affiliate is not a temporary failure state; it is the first operating stage in which a creator can learn how subscriptions, Bits, ads, tax forms, and payout reconciliation work. Partner becomes useful when the channel can sustain the qualifying audience and can benefit from the additional controls and support.
Practical qualification and payout checklist
If you are pursuing Affiliate
- Track followers, total streamed hours, distinct stream days, and the rolling average viewers in Twitch’s creator tools.
- Verify that all four achievements are complete within the stated measurement window, rather than assuming that a partially completed row is enough.
- Review the invitation and Affiliate agreement carefully, including payment, tax, and revenue provisions.
- Complete the required account and payment information before expecting a payout.
- After monetization begins, separate subscription, Cheer, extension-Bit, and ad revenue when reviewing statements.
If you are pursuing Partner
- Complete Path to Partner.
- Plan a repeatable schedule that produces at least six qualifying streams in each of two consecutive months.
- Monitor the 75-average-viewer requirement over the relevant 30-day periods.
- Exclude front-page promotion and embeds from your expectations because Twitch says those views do not count for the calculation.
- Apply after the two-month pattern is established and prepare for an individual review rather than assuming automatic acceptance.
- If accepted, read the Partner agreement and dashboard terms for your actual subscription, payout-fee, and feature conditions.
Before troubleshooting a missing payout
- Check whether the balance reached the threshold for the selected method.
- Confirm that the earning month has closed and the Net-15 processing date has passed.
- Allow three to five business days after submission, with extra time for weekends or holidays.
- Verify tax, bank, PayPal, or other payment details and look for a returned or rejected transaction.
- Compare the Twitch statement with the amount received after currency conversion and provider fees.
Common misunderstandings
“Partner is just Affiliate with a larger follower requirement.”
No. Affiliate uses four defined activity and audience achievements. Partner combines Path to Partner, a sustained two-month performance pattern, and selective review. Twitch does not publish a universal acceptance rate.
“Meeting the 75-average-viewer figure guarantees Partner.”
It does not. The figure is part of the application requirements, while Twitch retains discretion to review and accept applications.
Recommended Free Tools
“The Plus Program means every creator gets 60/40 or 70/30.”
Those rates require the stated Plus Points thresholds for three consecutive months and apply to net subscription revenue. Qualification lasts 12 months unless continued under the program terms.
“A payout is sent as soon as revenue is earned.”
Twitch waits for the earning month to close, uses the Net-15 schedule, and requires the method-specific minimum. A balance below that minimum rolls forward.
“The retail subscription price is the creator’s share.”
Subscription revenue is subject to deductions and regional pricing before the applicable split is calculated. Taxes, processing, bank charges, conversion, and other adjustments can change the final payment.
Bottom line
Choose Affiliate when you need the defined first step into Twitch monetization. Pursue Partner when you can sustain the required audience pattern and want broader controls, support, and feature access, while accepting that Twitch’s review is selective. For either status, evaluate the actual net amount in your account, check Plus Program qualification, and use the current dashboard and agreement as the final authority for fees, rates, and payment details.
