There is no evidence-backed universal winner between Twilio Verify and MyOTP for a small app. Choose by the channels your users need, the total cost for your countries and retry pattern, and the integration and operational work your team can support. Twilio documents more verification methods; MyOTP documents SMS, WhatsApp, and Telegram with credit-based message pricing. The available sources do not establish which provider is more reliable or more secure overall.
What each service offers
Twilio Verify
Twilio Verify is a hosted verification API. Its documentation lists SMS, passkeys, Silent Network Auth, automatic channel selection, voice, WhatsApp, email, TOTP, push, and silent device approval. The API uses HTTPS endpoints and supports API-key authentication with Basic authentication. Twilio Verify API documentation

MyOTP
MyOTP.App documents an API for generating and verifying OTPs through SMS, WhatsApp, and Telegram. Its documented flow uses separate generate and verify calls and includes configurable options and delivery reporting. Some behavior depends on the plan: for example, MyOTP says /extend_otp is available on Business and Enterprise plans and during the free trial, but not on Starter. MyOTP API documentation
Which channels fit your app?
Channel breadth is the clearest documented product difference. Twilio lists methods beyond SMS, WhatsApp, and Telegram, including passkeys, voice, email, TOTP, push, and Silent Network Auth. MyOTP’s API documentation describes SMS, WhatsApp, and Telegram. If your product depends on one of Twilio’s additional methods, verify its availability and implementation requirements for your target countries before choosing.

- POWERFUL SECURITY KEY: The YubiKey 5C NFC is the most versatile physical passkey, protecting your digital life from phishing attacks. It ensures only you can access your accounts
- WORKS WITH 1000+ ACCOUNTS: Compatible with popular accounts like Google, Microsoft, and Apple. A single YubiKey 5C NFC secures 100+ of your favorite accounts, including email, password managers, and more
- FAST & CONVENIENT LOGIN: Plug in your YubiKey 5C NFC via USB and tap it, or tap it against your phone (NFC), to authenticate. No batteries, no internet connection, and no extra fees required
- MOST SECURE PASSKEY: Supports FIDO2/WebAuthn, FIDO U2F, Yubico OTP, OATH-TOTP/HOTP, Smart card (PIV), and OpenPGP. That means it’s versatile, working almost anywhere you need it
- PRIMARY & SPARE KEYS: Just like having a spare house key, we recommend buying two YubiKeys - one for daily use and one as a spare. That way you’ll never get locked out of your accounts
Make a channel list based on what users need now, not just what either provider advertises. For each method, confirm country availability, plan restrictions, and the user experience you can support. For instance, a passkey or authenticator-app option changes the flow from sending a code to a phone; adding it only makes sense if your app can build and maintain that experience.
How to compare the actual cost
The pricing structures are different, so a headline price is not a like-for-like total. Twilio lists US SMS at $0.05 per successful verification plus $0.0083 per SMS. A cost estimate therefore needs to count both successful verifications and every SMS sent, including retries. Other applicable charges may also affect the total. Use current destination-specific rates for an estimate. Twilio Verify pricing

MyOTP’s pricing page lists a $20 monthly Starter plan and describes credit-based message costs. At the 1,000-message Starter tier, it lists a $0.02 credit; a one-credit USA country route costs two cents per OTP. MyOTP says verification itself uses no credits. These are MyOTP’s published plan and pricing terms, not a universal cost per successful user verification; check the current page, destination, and applicable tier. MyOTP pricing

MyOTP’s comparison page presents a US scenario and estimated totals, but those are vendor-authored estimates, not an independent benchmark. They should not be generalized to a different country, volume, or retry pattern. MyOTP’s comparison page
What integration work should you expect?
MyOTP describes its basic flow as two API calls: generate and verify. Its comparison page characterizes both services’ broad integration shape as two calls, while noting that endpoint paths, fields, and authentication differ. That description does not establish a measured setup time. Evaluate the current API documentation against your app’s stack and requirements rather than relying on a promised number of minutes or hours. MyOTP API documentation MyOTP’s comparison page

- MULTI-APPLICATION SECURITY KEY FOR ENTERPRISE USE: Supports FIDO2 passkeys, U2F, Smart Card (PIV), and OTP for flexible authentication across enterprise environments.
- PHISHING-RESISTANT AUTHENTICATION: Enables passwordless login with secure credential storage and PIN-based user verification.
- COMPATIBLE WITH ENTERPRISE SYSTEMS: Works with FIDO2, WebAuthn, U2F, PIV, and OTP across enterprise, cloud, and identity infrastructure.
- DRIVERLESS FIDO2 AUTHENTICATION: FIDO2 works natively with modern browsers and platforms. Additional software may be required for PIV or OTP
- USB AND NFC CONNECTIVITY: Supports authentication via USB-C and NFC. No batteries or drivers required for FIDO2.
During a proof of concept, check the complete lifecycle: request authentication, code generation, delivery status, verification, expiration and retry behavior, and any reporting your team needs. Confirm plan-specific endpoints and options before building around them.
What is established about security and reliability?
Twilio’s TOTP documentation explains that authenticator apps generate time-based codes, work offline when the device clock is synchronized, and do not require a phone number. Twilio describes TOTP as avoiding interception risks that can affect codes delivered by SMS, email, or voice. This is a distinction between authentication methods; it does not show that Twilio is more secure overall than MyOTP. Twilio TOTP documentation
The reviewed provider materials do not establish a comparative winner for delivery rates, uptime, regional latency, support performance, or fraud resistance. MyOTP’s feature descriptions and delivery reporting, and either provider’s product claims, are not independent comparative evidence. Don’t infer a reliability percentage or overall security ranking without evidence specific to your regions and use case.
A practical decision framework
- List required channels. Identify current and near-term user needs, then confirm availability and implementation details in each target country. Twilio API documentation MyOTP API documentation
- Model total cost. Use the same destination, message volume, retry pattern, expected successful verifications, and plan assumptions for each provider. Their published prices use different structures. Twilio pricing MyOTP pricing
- Test integration and control. Review authentication, request and response shapes, the verification lifecycle, reporting, and plan-specific features in the current documentation. Treat setup-time comparisons as claims unless you measure them in your own stack. Twilio API documentation MyOTP API documentation
- Ask for operational evidence. For your target regions, seek independently verifiable information on delivery, uptime, support, and security. The cited materials do not settle those comparisons.
Which should a small app choose?
Twilio merits consideration when its broader documented channel set or your existing Twilio stack matters. MyOTP merits evaluation when SMS, WhatsApp, or Telegram and its credit-based pricing model match your requirements. Make the choice using a representative integration and the countries where your users will verify; neither service is shown here to be a universal cost, reliability, or security winner.
