The company’s published Q3 guidance is revenue of US$44.6 billion to US$45.8 billion, gross margin of 65.0% to 67.0%, and operating margin of 56.0% to 58.0%. Those figures are the benchmarks the call will be measured against. The call may also shed light on two questions drawing attention this week: whether chip prices will rise in 2027, and what role TSMC might play in Elon Musk’s planned Terafab chip project. As of October 9, 2026, neither question has been answered by TSMC.
What TSMC has scheduled and what it has guided
TSMC’s investor-relations page lists the Third Quarter 2026 Earnings Conference for October 15, 2026, and shows a quiet period running from October 5 to October 14. Before that call, the company has published only its forward guidance and its most recent reported actuals, which are for Q2 2026. The table below sets the two side by side.

| Metric | Q2 2026 actual (company-reported) | Q3 2026 guidance (company-published) |
|---|---|---|
| Revenue | US$40.20 billion | US$44.6 billion to US$45.8 billion |
| Gross margin | 67.7% | 65.0% to 67.0% |
| Operating margin | 60.3% | 56.0% to 58.0% |
The Q3 guidance range sits above the Q2 revenue actual, but the margin guidance sits below the Q2 margins. Investors will therefore look at two things on October 15: whether revenue lands inside or above the US$44.6 billion to US$45.8 billion range, and whether margins hold within the guided bands. A result inside the range would match guidance, while a result outside it would be a surprise relative to the company’s own outlook.

Four areas are most relevant to this week’s coverage:
#1 Best Overall
- Demand: how management describes AI-related and other customer demand heading into the fourth quarter.
- Capacity: whether it discusses advanced-node and advanced-packaging capacity utilization or expansion timing.
- Pricing: whether it addresses prices for 2027, either for specific nodes or for packaging services. This is the point that matters most for the price-hike reports below.
- Costs: any comments on cost pressures that could affect gross margin inside or outside the guided range.
The call is a potential update point, not a guaranteed source of new information. Management may decline to discuss pricing, and any statement it does make will be the first official company word on the subject this quarter.
The 2027 chip price reports: what is estimated and what is not
The price story is built on reports, not on a TSMC announcement. TSMC has not issued a price increase in the official pre-call material reviewed here. Three separate sources have described possible 2027 increases, and they differ in scope and wording. Keeping them apart is the simplest way to avoid misreading them.

TrendForce’s October 5 preview
TrendForce’s October 5 preview names 2027 pricing as a key theme for the earnings call. It relays estimates attributed to the Central News Agency, citing institutional investors, and it also relays an Economic Daily News account of mature-node increases. These are reported estimates, not company-confirmed prices.
| Category | Estimated 2027 increase | Attributed source |
|---|---|---|
| Advanced nodes | 5% to 10% | Central News Agency, citing institutional investors (relayed by TrendForce) |
| Advanced packaging | 10% to 15% | Central News Agency, citing institutional investors (relayed by TrendForce) |
| Mature nodes | 3% to 5% | Central News Agency, citing institutional investors (relayed by TrendForce) |

Tom’s Hardware’s July 21 report on Nikkei
Tom’s Hardware’s July 21 report, citing Nikkei and people with knowledge of the matter, describes alleged 2027 baseline increases of 5% to 10% for advanced technologies. In that report, advanced technologies means 7nm-class and below. It adds a further 10% to 15% premium for some additional HPC capacity beyond original orders. It also says mature and legacy technologies could see increases, potentially up to 10% depending on node, and that customer discussions were expected to translate into new rates in 2027. These remain attributed claims. They do not establish a universal price list, and they do not mean every customer will face the top of any range.

Three questions to ask of any price figure
- Which service is covered? A figure for advanced-node wafers is not the same as a figure for advanced packaging or mature-node production.
- Is it a base price or an incremental premium? The Nikkei-based report separates a baseline increase from a premium on additional HPC capacity, and those should not be added together without a source saying so.
- Is it a reported estimate or company policy? Every figure above is attributed to press reports or investor estimates. None is TSMC guidance.
If management addresses 2027 pricing on October 15, its wording will be the first official reference point to compare against these reports.
Who is attributing the outlook
Some coverage frames the earnings outlook as coming from a named analyst. The material reviewed for this article does not establish that. TrendForce’s preview refers to a JPMorgan view on TSMC’s earnings and margin outlook, and separately relays institutional-investor estimates for price increases. Neither source ties a specific analyst or forecast to the price-hike ranges. Readers should treat any single-analyst attribution as unverified until the original report is identified.

Terafab: the account changed within one week
Terafab is a planned semiconductor project tied to Elon Musk’s companies. Reuters describes it as a planned Tesla-SpaceX project in Texas intended to make AI chips. Its ownership and operating structure has been described differently over the past week.
October 3: discussions with TSMC
On October 3, Musk confirmed discussions with TSMC and wrote: “Just discussions, but something may come of it.” Tom’s Hardware also summarized possible ownership and operating structures from Tim Culpan’s Culpium newsletter. Tom’s Hardware presented those structures as speculation, not as confirmed plans.

October 7: Musk’s clarification
On October 7, Reuters reported Musk’s later clarification: “No, we will build and run the fab. Let there be ZERO doubt about that.” In the same account, he said: “Maybe TSMC subleases part of the Terafab if they want, but nothing more than that.” That makes the most recent public position clear on one point. Musk’s companies would build and run the fab, and any TSMC role described so far is limited to possibly subleasing part of it.
Intel’s position is still unsettled
Reuters reported that Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan had told Bloomberg that Intel would remain involved. Reuters also noted that TSMC and Intel had not immediately responded to requests for comment. Earlier reporting discussed Intel’s possible 14A role and alternative partnership structures. Those are plans described in press reports, not settled terms, and no official schedule for the project has been published in the material reviewed here.
How to read the October 15 call against these questions
The earnings call and the Terafab story are separate. TSMC’s results will show whether demand and margins are tracking its guidance. Management’s remarks may address pricing, but they are not required to address Terafab, and any comments on it would likely be brief given Musk’s public clarification. A reader who wants a clean read on the call can check three things in order: the reported revenue against US$44.6 billion to US$45.8 billion, the gross and operating margins against 65.0% to 67.0% and 56.0% to 58.0%, and whether management gives an explicit 2027 pricing statement that matches or differs from the estimates above.

Reports of price increases and of Terafab’s structure should be updated as new official statements appear. Until then, they remain estimates and attributed claims.
The Bottom Line
TSMC’s October 15 call is the next official checkpoint for both the margin and pricing questions. Its published Q3 guidance sets the measuring stick for revenue and margins. The 2027 price increases circulating in the press are estimates from TrendForce, Central News Agency, Economic Daily News and Nikkei reports, not confirmed TSMC pricing. On Terafab, Musk has said his companies will build and run the fab, and any TSMC role described so far is limited to a possible sublease of part of it.
