TSMC’s Q3 2026 Profit Record Is Still a Forecast as AI Demand Lifts Revenue

TSMC has reported record third-quarter 2026 revenue, but its net income—the figure needed to confirm another record profit—was still due on October 15. As of October 12, analysts expected NT$740.8 billion in net profit, up 64% year over year; that estimate could make this the company’s sixth consecutive quarter of record profit, but it was not yet a reported result.

What is known before TSMC’s October 15 results

TSMC’s investor-relations calendar scheduled its third-quarter earnings conference for Thursday, October 15, 2026. The company’s quiet period ran from October 5 through October 14. At the October 12 information cutoff, the company had released preliminary revenue but had not announced third-quarter net income.

Reuters reported that TSMC’s third-quarter revenue was NT$1.49 trillion (US$46.71 billion), up 50% from a year earlier. The result exceeded both the company’s July revenue outlook of US$44.6–45.8 billion and the LSEG SmartEstimate of NT$1.46 trillion, based on 19 analysts. Revenue is not net income. The revenue record is established; the profit record and the claimed six-quarter streak remained forecasts until TSMC reported its earnings.

How the profit estimate compares

Reuters cited an LSEG SmartEstimate of NT$740.8 billion in third-quarter net profit, a projected 64% increase from the year-earlier quarter. This was an analyst estimate, not TSMC guidance or a company-reported figure. Recent company results offer useful comparisons, but they do not independently verify every quarter in the proposed six-quarter streak.

Why AI demand is part of the story—and what it does not prove

Reuters linked TSMC’s record third-quarter revenue to surging demand for AI applications. The company also said in its Q2 release that its business was supported by strong demand for leading-edge process technologies. These points support describing AI-related orders and advanced-chip production as important demand drivers.

They do not establish how much of the forecast profit growth came from AI. The figures provided do not isolate the effects of utilization, product mix, currency, manufacturing ramp costs, or margins. A profit explanation should therefore wait for TSMC’s earnings release and management’s comments.

  • Management’s explanation: Listen for comments on AI demand, leading-edge production, capacity, and other factors that influence profit. The available figures do not show that AI alone drove the projected increase.
