TSMC Q3 2026 Revenue Rises About 50% as AI Demand Holds Up

TSMC’s July–September 2026 revenue was approximately NT$1.49 trillion (US$46.71 billion), up from NT$989.92 billion a year earlier. Reuters described the year-over-year increase as 50%; the 51% figure in the original headline reflects a different rounding of the approximate totals. Reuters attributed the increase to strong demand for AI applications, but the revenue update did not quantify AI’s individual contribution.

What TSMC reported for the July–September quarter

On October 8, 2026, TSMC published its September revenue report, completing the monthly figures used to calculate the third-quarter total. The company’s official latest-news listing dates the September report to October 8 (TSMC latest news). Reuters calculated Q3 revenue at approximately NT$1.49 trillion, or US$46.71 billion, compared with NT$989.92 billion in Q3 2025 (Reuters report carried by Euronext).

The percentage depends on rounding: Reuters called the increase 50% in its article text, while the headline’s 51% is consistent with a different rounding of the approximate comparison. The revenue totals and comparison period make the scale of the result clearer than either rounded rate alone.

How the result compared with TSMC’s outlook

In July, TSMC forecast Q3 revenue of US$44.6 billion to US$45.8 billion. Reuters’ reported Q3 total of US$46.71 billion exceeded the top of that range (Reuters report; TSMC Q2 2026 results and outlook).

  • ✅Supports TensorFlow, TensorFlow Lite, ONNX, Keras, Pytorch frameworks
  • ✅Supports Linux and Windows. Supports the temperature range of -40°C to 85°C

This was a comparison with the company’s prior revenue outlook, not a newly issued forecast. Reuters said the brief October revenue statement did not provide updated forward guidance and that TSMC was scheduled to report full Q3 earnings the following week. The monthly revenue update therefore established the sales result, not the quarter’s final profitability or margins.

What AI demand explains—and what it does not

Reuters attributed the revenue growth to surging demand for AI applications. That supports saying AI demand was a reported driver of the strong quarter, but neither the monthly revenue report nor the cited Reuters coverage provides a dollar amount or percentage of growth attributable to AI alone.

  • Supports ONNX, TensorFlow, Keras, and TFLite models through the MemryX software stack on Linux and Windows hosts.

TSMC’s preceding-quarter release offers context, not a Q3 product-mix breakdown. For Q2, the company said advanced technologies—defined as 7-nanometer and more advanced—made up 77% of wafer revenue. CFO Wendell Huang said, “Our business in the second quarter was supported by strong demand for our leading-edge process technologies” (TSMC Q2 2026 results). These Q2 details help describe the business backdrop but should not be treated as a Q3 technology mix or a new executive statement about the October revenue result.

Revenue is not the same as profit

TSMC’s October monthly update did not report Q3 profit, gross margin, operating margin, or net profit margin. The latest complete quarterly profitability figures in the cited material are for Q2 2026: gross margin of 67.7%, operating margin of 60.3%, and net profit margin of 55.6%. Those figures are not Q3 results and should not be projected forward from revenue growth.

For further context, TSMC reported Q2 consolidated revenue of NT$1,270.38 billion, up 36.0% year over year and 12.0% sequentially. The Q3 figure’s 50% year-over-year rise uses Q3 2025 as its base; it is not a sequential growth rate. The Q2 quarter-on-quarter increase and Q3 year-on-year increase describe different comparisons and should not be conflated (TSMC Q2 2026 results).
