Trump Media & Technology Group Corp. (TMTG), the parent company that operates Truth Social, reported a GAAP net loss of $327.6 million for the three months ended March 31, 2024. The result was announced on May 20, 2024, so “this quarter” in the original headline refers to that 2024 reporting period—not the current quarter. TMTG reported $770,500 in revenue, mostly from an early advertising initiative.

What TMTG actually reported

The precise net loss in TMTG’s Form 10-Q was $327.5997 million for the first quarter of 2024, compared with a $210,300 loss in the first quarter of 2023. These are consolidated parent-company results, not a separate income statement for the Truth Social app alone. TMTG’s SEC Form 10-Q contains the financial statements.

Measure Three months ended March 31, 2024 Comparison or qualification
GAAP net loss $327.5997 million $210,300 loss in the same quarter of 2023
Revenue $770,500 $1.1162 million in Q1 2023; largely early-stage advertising
GAAP operating loss $98.353 million Reported in the 10-Q
Total costs and operating expenses $99.030 million Reported in the 10-Q
Non-GAAP Adjusted EBITDA operating loss $12.1 million Company measure in its May 20 earnings release; not a GAAP result

The revenue decline was not presented as a simple measure of user activity. Management said revenue varied while it selectively tested an early advertising initiative, and that a change in the revenue share with one advertising partner contributed significantly to the year-over-year decrease.

Why was the net loss so large?

The headline loss included substantial accounting items associated with the merger that closed on March 25, 2024, as well as fair-value and stock-compensation effects. TMTG’s SEC-furnished earnings release attributed $311.0 million of noncash expenses to the conversion of promissory notes and the related elimination of prior liabilities immediately before closing.

Derivative-liability fair-value loss

The 10-Q records a $225.916 million loss from the change in fair value of derivative liabilities. A fair-value change is an accounting remeasurement; it does not by itself mean TMTG paid that amount in cash during the quarter.

Stock-based compensation

TMTG reported $84.588 million of stock-based compensation expense. The filing allocated $54.446 million to general and administrative expense, tied to promissory notes issued to executives and a consultant that converted into shares, and $30.143 million to research and development, tied to vendor notes associated with development of a planned streaming platform.

These figures describe different lines and explanations in the company’s filings. They should not be added together as though they were independent cash bills that neatly equal the net loss.

Was $327.6 million the cash Truth Social burned?

No. GAAP net loss is an accounting measure, and this result included noncash note-conversion expenses, derivative-liability remeasurement and stock-based compensation. The filing’s $99.030 million of total costs and operating expenses and its separate $225.916 million derivative fair-value loss provide more useful context than treating the headline number as a cash-withdrawal total.

Determining cash burn requires a cash-flow analysis, including operating cash flow, investing activity, financing and the company’s cash balance. The headline and the cited disclosures alone do not establish that Truth Social consumed $327.6 million in cash.

How much money was Truth Social making?

TMTG reported $770,500 in consolidated revenue for Q1 2024, down from $1.1162 million a year earlier. The company said the revenue was largely generated by a nascent advertising initiative. Because TMTG reports consolidated results, the filing does not establish a platform-only revenue or loss figure for Truth Social.

The company’s release described TMTG as well-capitalized after the merger and focused on product development. That is management’s characterization, not an independent assessment of financial strength.

What management said about the result

In the May 20, 2024 release, CEO Devin Nunes said: “After an unprecedented, years-long process, we have consummated our merger and dispensed with the vast bulk of merger-related expenses, leaving the Company well-capitalized and supported by a legion of retail shareholders who believe in our mission to provide a free-speech beachhead against Big Tech censorship.” This is Nunes’s description of the company’s position, rather than a finding by the SEC or an outside analyst.

Is the $327 million figure still current?

No. It dates to the quarter ended March 31, 2024. A later, unaudited SEC Form 10-Q for the quarter ended June 30, 2026 reports a $238.111 million net loss and $1.670 million in net sales for that three-month period. For the six months ended June 30, 2026, it reports a $643.995 million net loss and $2.541 million in net sales. Those figures belong to different periods and should not be presented as a direct continuation of the 2024 result without accounting for changes in the business and accounting mix. The June 30, 2026 Form 10-Q describes a broader TMTG business operating Truth Social and Truth+, alongside Truth.Fi and a digital-asset strategy that includes a bitcoin treasury. It lists the common stock under DJT on Nasdaq and NYSE Texas.

What the headline gets right—and what it leaves out

  • Right: TMTG reported a $327.6 million GAAP net loss for Q1 2024.
  • Needs clarification: The number belongs to TMTG, not a separately reported Truth Social subsidiary.
  • Needs qualification: The loss included major noncash and fair-value accounting items.
  • Business context: Revenue was $770,500, largely from an early advertising effort, and management cited an advertising-partner revenue-share change as a significant factor in the decline.
  • Date: The announcement was May 20, 2024, and later filings report different results for a broader business.
