A screenshot from the virtual G7 leaders’ meeting on October 2, 2026, showed Donald Trump’s video tile dark with his name displayed, while other leaders appeared on camera. The image prompted online jokes about a nap and a “bad hair day,” but it does not show that Trump was asleep or explain why his camera was off.
What the screenshot shows
Hindustan Times and Moneycontrol reported that International Energy Agency chief Fatih Birol shared the screenshot from the meeting, which was hosted by French President Emmanuel Macron. In the captured image, Trump’s tile appeared dark and displayed his name; other leaders were visible on camera. Hindustan Times and Moneycontrol describe the same moment.

That is the limit of what the screenshot establishes: the appearance of the tile when the image was captured. The reports do not establish why the camera was off, whether it stayed off for the whole call, or whether Trump was sleeping.

Hindustan Times quoted New York Post White House correspondent Emily Goodin as writing, “President Trump has his camera off for G7 leader zoom.” The outlet also reproduced social-media comments speculating that Trump might be napping or keeping the camera off because of a bad hair day. Those remarks were jokes, not evidence about his condition or reason for appearing without video. Hindustan Times and Moneycontrol likewise note that there is no evidence he was asleep.

What the meeting was about
Hindustan Times reported that the leaders discussed global energy markets and supply concerns. According to that report, G7 leaders agreed to coordinate the release of 100 million barrels of oil and fuel reserves over four months, with a substantial diesel release in the first 20 days. Those figures are meeting context reported by the outlet; they do not explain the dark tile. Hindustan Times
