On October 8, 2026, President Donald Trump presented six medals at the White House’s Science: A New Golden Age Summit: four National Medals of Science and two National Medals of Technology and Innovation. Earlier coverage previewed the ceremony with the headline phrasing “to honour,” but the event has taken place, and the White House’s same-day release is the primary record of who received which award.
Who received each medal
| Medal | Recipients | Stated purpose | Award history (as stated by the White House) |
|---|---|---|---|
| National Medal of Science | Elon Musk, Sergey Brin, Jensen Huang, Lisa Su | Recognizes outstanding contributions to science in service of the United States | Bestowed by the president since 1963 |
| National Medal of Technology and Innovation | Michael Dell, Satya Nadella | Recognizes innovators whose work has strengthened the economy and improved quality of life | First awarded in 1985 |
“Dell” in the headline refers to Michael Dell, and “Nadella” refers to Satya Nadella. India Today’s preview named the same recipients and described the ceremony, but it is contemporaneous reporting rather than the official record.

The summit and the July 2026 report behind it
The ceremony was part of the Science: A New Golden Age Summit. The White House positioned the summit as a way to turn the July 2026 report of the same name into changes across the U.S. science and technology enterprise. That report describes a changed environment in which industry plays a larger role in research and foundational work sits more closely alongside applied work.
Its recommendations, as the White House summarizes them, cover five areas:

Implementation timeline and budget guidance
The White House’s July 21 announcement of the report said federal R&D agencies were required to submit action plans within 90 days and to incorporate budget guidance into their FY2028 submissions. That is a description of an administration directive and timeline. The available sources do not show whether every agency has completed or adopted its plan, so treat the plans as directed work rather than documented outcomes.
Announced figures and how to read them
The White House attached three headline figures to the summit. Each is an administration-reported value for announced commitments.
Rank #4
- VARIED SCIENCE KIT THAT INSPIRES - Kids will have hours of fun as they explore the multiple experiments and is great to share with family, friends, or classmates; Just like a real scientist in a lab! Encourages children to critically think and problem solves and will help sharpen their science and math skills.

- Over $6 billion in investments across the federal government, industry, academia, and philanthropy. The October 8 fact sheet uses this figure to characterize the summit’s combined initiatives. It is not presented as an independently audited expenditure total.
- $100 million Genesis Mission Fellowship initiative. According to the fact sheet, the fellowship supports accelerated four-year PhDs that pair advanced AI (“super intelligence”) with another science or engineering discipline, including experience in industry and at a Department of Energy national laboratory.
- 90 days for agency action plans. This is the deadline set in the July 21 announcement, described above.
The Kratsios statement
Michael Kratsios, Assistant to the President and Director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, said in the October 8 release that “each of these medalists has transformed their field or industry, laying the foundations for technologies we already can barely imagine living without.” That is the administration’s characterization of the honorees. No separate independent expert evaluation of the six rationales appears in the available sources.
What is and is not established
- The event date, venue, and recipient list are established by the White House’s October 8 release.
- The medals’ remits and award histories (1963 and 1985) are the White House’s stated descriptions.
- The summit’s policy framing and July 2026 recommendations are the administration’s account of its own report.
- The $6 billion, $100 million, and 90-day figures are announced commitments and deadlines. The sources do not audit them or show subsequent results.
- The honorees’ accomplishments are described as the administration’s rationale; they have not been independently verified in these sources.
Readers following the story after the ceremony should look for agency action plans, FY2028 budget submissions, and Genesis Mission Fellowship announcements as the next checkable evidence of what the summit produces.
