The report did not provide a crowd count, so the venue’s 10,041-seat capacity should not be mistaken for rally attendance. “Humiliated,” in the report’s headline, is an interpretation—not evidence of Trump’s private reaction.
What happened at the Mobile rally
The October 2 appearance took place at the Mitchell Center on the University of South Alabama campus. The Daily Beast described empty rows behind Trump as he spoke. It reported that the event was intended to build support for Republicans ahead of the midterms, with Alabama Sen. Tommy Tuberville, then running for governor, and Rep. Barry Moore, running for the Senate, also slated to speak, along with congressional candidates Jerry Carl and Rhett Marques.
The Daily Beast quoted Trump describing his reason for attending: “I’m here to say hello. I love you, and I’m coming really as a sign of respect.”
Empty seats do not establish the rally’s attendance
The Daily Beast gives the Mitchell Center’s capacity as 10,041 seats. That is the venue’s reported maximum, not the number of people who attended. The article offers no total attendance figure, official crowd estimate, or comparable count for earlier Mobile events.

Photographs or video showing unfilled sections establish that some seats appeared empty in the areas shown; by themselves, they do not measure the total crowd. The Daily Beast said the White House did not respond to its request for comment. Neither that report nor AOL’s October 3 account explains why seats were unfilled.
Trump’s comments about Alabama and the 2015 rally
The Daily Beast reported that Trump recalled a 2015 Mobile rally, saying he could not find a local venue large enough for supporters. The same article says Trump claimed he won Alabama by 55 points, while it gives his 2024 Alabama margin as 30 percentage points. These are claims and figures presented in that report, not an attendance comparison; the article does not establish that the 55-point statement refers to the same election as its 2024 figure.

Why crowd images attract attention
AOL described the Mobile visit as part of a series of campaign stops in Republican states. It quoted Benjamin Gross, director of the Center of Leadership and American Principles at Jacksonville State University, saying: “And in an age where we broadcast images through television and the internet and social media, having images that show large support can be helpful.” His comment addresses the general political value campaigns may place on crowd imagery. It does not explain the empty sections in Mobile or show that rally crowd size predicts election results.

What the coverage does—and does not—show
- Documented in the reports: Trump spoke in Mobile on October 2, and coverage described visible empty seats behind him.
- Not established: the total crowd size, why seats were empty, what organizers expected, or how turnout compared with previous Mobile events on a like-for-like basis.
- Interpretation rather than a measured outcome: the word “humiliated” in The Daily Beast’s headline does not establish Trump’s state of mind or a broader change in his political standing.
