Equal AI, an Indian startup building an artificial-intelligence call assistant, is seeking new funding at a target valuation of $750 million to $1 billion. Business Today reported in 2026 that investors have shown early interest, but the valuation depends on the company meeting growth milestones by March. The $1 billion figure is therefore an upper-end target, not a completed financing valuation.
Why Equal AI is targeting a billion-dollar valuation
Equal AI is aiming for 15 million monthly active users by March, a roughly fourfold increase from the user base it has reported. Management is using that growth milestone to support a valuation range of $750 million to $1 billion in a new round. The company has not disclosed how much capital it wants to raise, the exact valuation assigned to each proposed tranche, or whether investors will accept the $1 billion upper bound.

The target follows a $30 million Series B round led by Prosus Ventures and Tomales Bay Capital in June 2026. TechCrunch reported that the financing brought Equal AI’s total funding to more than $42 million. That Series B was divided into three tranches, with different valuations tied to milestones; the company did not disclose those valuations.

Founder Keshav Reddy started Equal AI in 2022. The business initially focused on data sharing for financial-services companies and know-your-customer verification before moving into a consumer call-assistant product.
#1 Best Overall
Its Android application is designed to handle an unknown call instead of merely labeling or blocking it. The assistant can ask the caller why they are calling, show that explanation to the user, and offer quick replies. A user can send delivery instructions, write a custom response, or decide whether to continue the conversation. The app also stores call recordings, transcripts and summaries.
Business Standard described the Call AI Assistant as a tool that can block spam, explain caller intent, take actions on a user’s behalf and complete limited tasks from end to end. Reddy told TechCrunch, “We always wanted to be a customer-facing company, and with Equal AI, the first use case we launched was a call assistant because we realized users get a ton of calls for financial services or job openings.”

How many users Equal AI has
Equal AI said it had more than 1 million monthly active users and over 300,000 daily active users after launching the call assistant the previous year, figures reported by TechCrunch in 2026. The company also says the app supports more than 10 languages.

Equal AI’s 15-million monthly-active-user objective is a forward-looking management plan, not a reported current result. Reaching it would require adding about four times the users cited in the latest reports while maintaining regular usage.

Is Equal AI the new Truecaller?
Equal AI competes with Truecaller, Google and Apple call-screening features, but its stated product direction is different. Caller-ID services primarily answer “who is calling?” Equal AI is trying to answer “why are they calling?”, communicate with the caller and perform limited actions without requiring the user to pick up immediately.
| Capability | Equal AI | Truecaller-style caller ID | India’s proposed CNAP |
|---|---|---|---|
| Primary purpose | Explain intent, screen conversations and respond | Identify callers and help block spam | Display the registered caller name |
| Interaction model | Conversational assistant that can send replies and handle limited tasks | Mostly identification, warnings and blocking controls | Network-level name presentation rather than an app assistant |
| Delivery | Android app | App and platform call-screening features | Telecom-carrier infrastructure |
| Language approach | More than 10 languages claimed by the company | Coverage varies by service and market | Depends on carrier implementation and registered-name data |
| Recordings and transcripts | Stores recordings, transcripts and summaries | Not the same conversational workflow | Not an equivalent assistant or recording service |
CNAP, or Calling Name Presentation, is a separate proposed telecom-network system that could show a caller’s registered name. It would address identity at the carrier level, while Equal AI is pursuing an app-level explanation of intent and automated handling. CNAP therefore would not be a direct substitute for the assistant workflow described by Equal AI.

India is strategically important to the caller-identification market. Mint reported in 2024 that India accounted for about two-thirds of Truecaller’s users and more than 75% of its 2023 revenue. Equal AI’s opportunity is to expand from identification and spam control into a broader consumer assistant, but that opportunity depends on adoption, reliable language understanding and user confidence in automated call handling.
Privacy and practical limitations
Equal AI’s recording, transcription and summary features create a different privacy question from a simple caller-ID database. Users should understand when calls are being recorded, how transcripts are stored, who can access them and how long they are retained. Consent requirements can vary by jurisdiction and by the people participating in a call.
Best Value
The reported product is Android-based. A future iOS release and a paid tier have been discussed as plans, not completed launches. The company has also not published the detailed terms that would govern those features.
What is still unknown about the funding
- The exact amount of capital Equal AI is seeking has not been disclosed.
- The valuation assigned to each tranche in the new financing is not public.
- The $750 million–$1 billion range is a target, not a closed-round valuation.
- It is not yet known whether the company will reach 15 million monthly active users by March.
- Any iOS launch, paid subscription and affiliate or partner program remain unverified future plans.
What the milestone means for the company
Equal AI is asking investors to value a transition from a call-screening application into a general-purpose consumer assistant. Its previous financing provides capital history, while the 15-million-user goal supplies the near-term test for the new valuation range. If growth accelerates and users repeatedly allow the assistant to screen and act on calls, the company may strengthen its case for the upper end. If adoption, retention, language accuracy or privacy acceptance fall short, the eventual valuation could be lower—or the round could be delayed.
