What Troy Baker said about Kai Leng
The exchange took place in a Partychat video that showed Baker clips from roles across his career. When the Kai Leng clip appeared, Baker turned to laugh and said, “Don’t. Next clip. Nope, next clip.” GamesRadar+ then reported him saying, “Yeah, I deserve that,” followed by: “There’s so many reasons why I shouldn’t have played that character.” (GamesRadar+, October 5, 2026)

Who is Kai Leng, and why is the role notable?
Kai Leng is an antagonist in Mass Effect 3, with Baker identified as the character’s performer. The game was released in March 2012, according to VGTimes’ October 5, 2026 report. The retrospective therefore revisited a role from a game released more than 14 years earlier, depending on the specific dates being compared.

GamesRadar+ characterizes Kai Leng as much-disliked and criticizes his presentation and design. That is the outlet’s assessment, not a measured claim about every player. Its account also notes that criticism can go beyond reasonable limits. Those judgments are context for the clip, not reasons Baker himself gave for saying he should not have played the character.

- Established: The remarks were made during a Partychat career retrospective, and Baker reacted to a Kai Leng clip with laughter, a request to move on, and the quoted comments.
- Not established: A fuller explanation from Baker, or a complete account of his views on the character or the game.
- Context, not a Baker quote: GamesRadar+’s description of Kai Leng’s reception and design. VGTimes also recounts fan criticism, but neither secondary report should be treated as a transcript of Baker’s full perspective.
The underlying video was linked by the secondary coverage, but the reports do not provide a fuller transcript of the exchange. The safest reading is the narrow one: Baker was visibly reluctant to revisit the clip and made a self-deprecating remark, without publicly detailing his reasons in the reported exchange.
