Solo is a supported mode, so you do not need a group to access the survival, crafting, building and exploration systems. A solo player should nevertheless expect to handle gathering, construction and survival management without teammates sharing those tasks.
Co-op play
The intended group experience is private co-op with friends. A French-language version of the storefront describes the game as friends-only private co-op; treat that wording as storefront copy, not as proof of a broader dedicated-server or public matchmaking system. The listing does not state whether hosts can run persistent worlds, how saves are managed, or whether all eight players must own the game through the same account arrangement.

Before buying at launch, confirm the current multiplayer rules on the store page: maximum party size, host requirements, invite method, save ownership, disconnect recovery and whether online play requires any additional service. The only firm capacity currently published is eight total players.

What Early Access means for this purchase
Trollheim: Gnomes is planned as an Early Access title. The developer’s Early Access questionnaire says: “Early Access allows us to continue developing the game together with our community and shape the experience in a close relationship with our players and navigate the game’s future.”
The same official answers estimate at least 12–18 months in Early Access. That is a minimum planning estimate, not a promised 1.0 date. Development can take longer, and the game can change substantially during that period.
What is expected to expand
The developer says the full version is planned to add:
- Additional biomes
- Greater crafting depth
- More building options
- Additional languages
- More Steam features
- More Väsen
The current-state description says the early build already has core survival, crafting, building and exploration systems in co-op multiplayer. It does not claim feature completeness, a finished narrative, final balance, a complete language set or a stable end-state for every system.

Risks to weigh
- Content can arrive gradually. Planned additions may be released in stages rather than all at once.
- Systems can be redesigned. Recipes, progression, building tools, biomes and creatures may be rebalanced or replaced.
- Pricing can change. The developer expects pricing adjustments during development up to version 1.0.
- Technical behavior can vary. An Early Access build may contain bugs, incomplete optimization or temporary limitations that are not representative of the final version.

Early Access is a reasonable fit if you enjoy seeing a game evolve, can tolerate unfinished features and want to provide feedback. Waiting is safer if you want a complete campaign, fixed systems, a firm schedule or a known final price.
Can your Windows PC run it?
The published requirements are demanding for an unreleased indie game. Compare every component with the table rather than relying on a single “gaming PC” label. How to check the listed requirements
- Open Settings > System > About to see your Windows edition, processor and installed RAM. Confirm that the operating system is 64-bit by checking System type.
- Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc, open Task Manager, choose Performance, and select GPU to identify your graphics processor. Compare the exact model, not just the brand or memory capacity.
- Open File Explorer > This PC and check the free space on the drive where Steam installs games. The requirement is 15 GB available; leave additional room for downloads, updates and temporary installation files.
- Confirm that your graphics driver supports DirectX 12. Press Windows key+R, enter
dxdiag, and inspect the DirectX version shown by the diagnostic tool. - Verify that your internet connection meets the broadband requirement and that your home network can support every member of your intended co-op group.
Meeting the minimum list only establishes that your hardware matches the published baseline. It does not establish a particular frame rate, visual quality, loading time or stability level. The recommended list doubles memory from 16 GB to 32 GB and moves to newer processor and graphics classes, so a system near the minimum should not be assumed to deliver the recommended experience.

Buying early makes sense when
- Your Windows PC meets the minimum requirements, preferably with headroom toward the recommended specification.
- You actively want to participate in development feedback rather than wait for a finished game.
- You are comfortable with at least 12–18 months of planned Early Access and the possibility of a longer schedule.
- You have a stable solo plan or a private group of friends who can play online together.
- You accept that the price, content, balance and technical performance may change before version 1.0.
Waiting is the better choice when
- You need a confirmed release date or a final, predictable price.
- You require a console, macOS or Linux version.
- You want a physical copy, deluxe package or guaranteed bonus content.
- Your computer is below the published minimum, especially in graphics memory, system RAM or operating-system support.
- You prefer finished progression, complete language support, mature Steam features and a stable end-game loop.
A practical decision rule
Do not pre-commit based only on the setting or the eight-player headline. First confirm that your hardware is suitable, then decide whether unfinished development is part of the appeal. If either condition fails, waiting for a playable release build and clearer purchase terms removes the largest risks without losing any confirmed platform option.

Is there a physical game, soundtrack or other product to buy?
No specific physical product is supported by the available official information. Trollheim’s page says its interconnected narrative spans “books, collectibles, music, games, and more,” but it does not name a book, soundtrack, collectible, boxed game, accessory, retailer, Amazon listing or official shop.
That broad cross-media statement is not enough to identify a legitimate product. Do not substitute a generic gaming PC, controller, headset, unrelated survival game or unverified merchandise listing for an official Trollheim: Gnomes purchase. Wait for a named product and an official sales channel.

- Decide whether solo play is sufficient or whether your group can reliably use private online co-op.
