Its weak bass, lack of app-based EQ and no dust-protection rating make it less compelling for listeners who want fuller sound or more control. Tom’s Guide’s September 2026 review judged the JBL Go 5 a better overall value, though that comparison depends on local prices and the exact versions available.
What the XSound Go offers—and which version matters
The XSound Go has been revised since its original release in 2017, so specifications can differ between older stock and current listings. Tom’s Guide identifies the version it reviewed in September 2026 as having Bluetooth 5.3 and USB-C. Check the listing and product details for the specific unit you are buying rather than assuming every XSound Go has those features.

Tribit’s official US product page lists two 40 mm drivers and one passive radiator, and advertises waterproof listening use. Tom’s Guide lists an IPX7 rating for its reviewed version. That is a water-resistance rating, not a dustproof rating.
For the version covered by Tom’s Guide, its listed specifications include 16 W output, Bluetooth with SBC, a 3.5 mm wired connection, multipoint pairing, a stated frequency response of 80 Hz–20 kHz, dimensions of 6.7 × 2.3 × 2.2 inches and weight of 13.44 ounces. These are review-listed specifications; confirm the generation and connections on the retail listing before purchase. Tom’s Guide’s review and Tribit’s product page provide the cited details.

How it sounds in everyday listening
Clear vocals and bright treble
Tom’s Guide found the XSound Go’s treble vibrant and its vocals clear and loud. That balance can work well for spoken-word listening and music where voices are prominent, especially if intelligibility matters more to you than deep bass.
Limited low-end and no app EQ
The same review found the bass weak. The current reviewed model also does not work with the Tribit app, so you cannot use that app to create a custom EQ profile for it. If you want to adjust the sound to compensate for the speaker’s tonal balance, this is a meaningful limitation.

Battery life: a claim, a review test and a legacy result
Tribit claims up to 24 hours at moderate volume and says typical use is 18–20 hours. Separately, Tom’s Guide reports about 20 hours in its test at 50% volume. Treat those as different contexts: battery life varies with playback volume and use, and the manufacturer’s “up to” figure is not a guarantee for every listening session.

TechGearLab’s 2018 review measured 18.5 hours for the legacy unit it tested. That result is historical and does not establish how long the 2026 hardware revision lasts. TechGearLab’s review is useful for that older test context, not as a current-generation battery test.

Price and alternatives: when the XSound Go is the better buy
Prices are snapshots, not lasting list prices. Tribit’s US product page displayed $39.99 when surfaced for this comparison. Tom’s Guide reported an approximate price of $39 in the US and £39 in the UK in its September 11, 2026 review, along with historical lows of $24 and £31. Check the live price in your market before deciding.
| Speaker | What the cited review says | How to use the comparison |
|---|---|---|
| Tribit XSound Go | About $39 / £39 in Tom’s Guide’s September 2026 review; clear vocals and treble, weak bass, no app EQ, and no dustproof rating. | Choose it if its vocal clarity, portability and battery expectations matter more than bass or sound customization. Confirm the exact generation and local price. |
| JBL Go 5 | Tom’s Guide listed it at about $54 and judged it the stronger overall-value option, citing codec and EQ advantages. | It may justify the extra spend if those advantages matter to you. The cited price is a review snapshot; verify the current price and regional specifications. |
| Tribit StormBox Mini+ | Tom’s Guide listed it at about $39 and noted app-based EQ support. | It is worth checking if you want sound adjustment near the XSound Go’s cited price. Confirm current availability, price and features for your market. |
| Tozo PE1 | Tom’s Guide listed it at about $36, but the cited passage does not provide enough comparative performance detail to support a recommendation. | Price alone is not enough to establish that it is a better buy. |
Tom’s Guide’s comparison is a reviewer judgment, not a controlled head-to-head test of every alternative. Its approximate prices are tied to that review, so a sale or a different regional price could change the value calculation.
