Treasury Yields Steady in Oct. 9 Snapshot as CNBC Reports Trump Iran Pledge

U.S. Treasury yields were described as steady in an October 9, 2026 market snapshot, while CNBC reported that President Donald Trump had pledged not to attack Iran before the midterm elections. The official Treasury daily par-yield curve later listed the 10-year yield at 5.24% and the 30-year at 5.60%. Those rounded closing-market figures are distinct from CNBC’s reported intraday readings, and the available official Treasury data does not verify the reported pledge or establish that it caused a market move.

What yields were reported on October 9?

The U.S. Department of the Treasury’s daily par-yield curve lists the 10-year Treasury yield at 5.24% and the 30-year at 5.60% for October 9, 2026. These are rounded official daily values based on closing-market data. Treasury daily par-yield curve

Separately, an archived CNBC live-update page reported an intraday snapshot of 5.2399% for the 10-year, 5.6139% for the 30-year and 4.7827% for the 2-year. These readings should not be combined with Treasury’s daily figures as if they were the same measurement: the CNBC numbers were an intraday report, while Treasury’s series uses closing-market bid prices. Why do the figures differ?

The figures refer to different observation times and reporting contexts. Treasury says its par-yield curve is based on closing market bid prices on recently auctioned Treasury securities in the over-the-counter market. CNBC’s reported values capture an intraday snapshot. Small differences between the two sets are therefore not, by themselves, evidence of a contradiction or a sustained change in yields.

Treasury also publishes a separate long-term-rate table. For October 9, 2026, that table gives a 5.60% long-term composite and a 5.65% 20-year constant-maturity Treasury rate. Those are distinct measures; neither should be substituted for the par-curve 30-year yield. Treasury long-term rates

What did the Iran news add to the market picture?

CNBC’s archived report said Trump pledged not to attack Iran until after the midterm elections. The retrieved sources do not establish his exact wording or any conditions attached to the reported pledge, and Treasury’s yield data does not confirm the political statement. Treat it as CNBC-reported context rather than an independently verified announcement. CNBC archived live updates

The report’s description of yields as “steady” applies to its market snapshot, not necessarily to the full trading day. The available information does not demonstrate that the Iran remarks caused yields to move, or that markets maintained the same levels afterward.

How to read the maturity comparison

The reported 2-year yield was 4.7827%, below the reported 10-year and 30-year readings. CNBC described the 2-year as more closely tracking expectations for near-term Federal Reserve decisions, while the longer maturities reflect longer horizons. Yields at different maturities do not have to move together, and the snapshot alone does not explain why they stood at those levels.
