Treasury yields were holding near multiyear highs in the October 5, 2026 market report, after a sharp sell-off the previous week. That report put the 10-year yield at 5.273% and the 30-year at 5.626%. Traders were also looking to economic data and the Federal Reserve’s scheduled release of minutes from its September meeting. These are dated figures, not live October 7 quotes.

What yields did the October 5 report cite?

Finance News Today, in an October 5 article linking to CNBC, reported a 10-year Treasury yield of 5.273% and a 30-year yield of 5.626%. It described the 10-year yield as lower by less than one basis point and the 30-year yield as marginally lower. The figures are the article’s market snapshot; they were not independently verified as current or as official daily yield observations. Source: Finance News Today, October 5, 2026.

A basis point is 0.01 percentage point, so a move of less than one basis point is smaller than 0.01 percentage point. Bond prices and yields generally move in opposite directions: when bond prices fall, yields rise, and vice versa. That helps explain how the prior week’s bond sell-off could leave yields elevated.

Why were traders watching data and Fed minutes?

Economic activity data

The October 5 article identified the Institute for Supply Management’s services activity report as a data catalyst scheduled for that Monday. The reviewed article does not provide the report’s result, so its outcome cannot be inferred from that coverage.

Federal Reserve communication

The Federal Reserve’s calendar scheduled publication of minutes from the September 15–16, 2026 Federal Open Market Committee meeting for October 7 at 2:00 p.m. The same calendar listed the next FOMC meeting for October 27–28. At the time of the October 7 schedule check, the minutes were still listed as upcoming; the calendar confirms timing, not what the minutes say or how markets will respond. What did the reported 82% probability mean?

The October 5 article said traders had priced in a nearly 82% chance that the Fed would leave rates unchanged at its next meeting, attributing the figure to CME Group’s FedWatch Tool. This was market-implied pricing as reported on October 5—not an official Federal Reserve forecast, a guarantee of the policy decision, or a live October 7 probability. The cited article did not provide an independently verified historical reading from the tool. October 5 report and its FedWatch attribution.

How to read this market snapshot

  • The quoted yields describe October 5, 2026, and should not be treated as current rates.
  • The 10-year and 30-year are different Treasury maturities; the figures show the levels cited by the article, not a complete account of the yield curve.
  • Economic releases and Fed communication were the stated near-term focus. The available schedule and report do not establish the minutes’ eventual tone or the market’s reaction after release.
