Transport Fever 3 makes vehicle and line management more comparative and more integrated with the game world than Transport Fever 2. Its purchase menu compares more vehicle attributes, while a redesigned Line Manager adds in-world editing and new controls for naming lines, assigning vehicles, and ordering stops. A change to train route reservation is also intended to prevent a particular kind of single-track deadlock.
At a glance: vehicle-management changes
| Area | Transport Fever 2 | Transport Fever 3 |

Urban Games does not provide a complete feature inventory. |
| Line controls | The official comparison does not establish the corresponding earlier options. | Automatic line naming, vehicle-assignment distribution options, and drag-and-drop stop reordering are listed. The full range of assignment options is not stated. Urban Games feature description. |
| Train route reservation | Trains reserve a route as far as the second-next signal or the next stop. | Trains reserve beyond the next stop, up to a stop where they can change direction or the next signal. Comparing vehicles before you buy
Transport Fever 3’s overhauled purchase menu makes vehicle trade-offs easier to see. Its comparison mode puts loading speed, comfort, noise, and pollution beside technical specifications. That gives you a broader basis for matching a vehicle to a route or service instead of treating the newest model as an automatic upgrade.

Urban Games says older models can remain useful because vehicles have different strengths and weaknesses. The official description does not enumerate every technical specification or explain how each attribute is weighted, so it does not support a universal ranking of which vehicle is best. Use the displayed comparisons to judge the needs of the service you are planning.

Managing lines and fleets from the map
Transport Fever 3’s redesigned Line Manager is presented by Urban Games as the central control hub. A key workflow change is that you can select and edit lines, stations, and vehicles directly in the game world, rather than repeatedly switching between the map and management windows.

In-world editing
The listed controls include placing waypoints and adjusting or moving stops in-world. This connects the map view more directly to line setup and editing, though Urban Games has not quantified how much time the changes save or supplied a complete list of Line Manager features.
Naming, vehicle assignment, and stop order
- Automatic names: Generate line names using different naming patterns.
- Vehicle distribution: Choose among assignment options that affect where vehicles begin pathfinding. The source does not enumerate the available options.
- Stop ordering: Drag stops in the stop list to reorder them.
How train route reservation differs
Urban Games describes a specific change in train reservation logic. In Transport Fever 2, a train reserved its route only as far as the second-next signal or its next stop. In Transport Fever 3, reservation extends beyond the next stop, up to a stop where the train can change direction or the next signal.

The stated aim is to avoid deadlocks when trains enter a multi-stop single-track section from opposite directions. Urban Games says prior configurations and additional layouts remain possible, and that signals are consistently required wherever trains are meant to pass one another. This describes the reservation behavior and scenario identified by the developer; it does not establish that every aspect of train pathfinding has changed.

Vehicle roster and release context
Vehicle-count claims depend on when and where Urban Games made them. The October 29, 2025 vehicle-trailer announcement said the roster had grown to over 270 models and identified helicopters and cargo trams as first-time additions to the series; helicopters can carry passengers or freight. A later editions page, accessed October 3, 2026, advertises more than 300 vehicles. These are separate claims from differently dated official materials, not a like-for-like count of a particular edition. See the editions page.

What the official feature descriptions do not establish
The published comparison supports these specific changes, but it is not a complete vehicle-management manual or an independent gameplay comparison. It does not establish the exact weighting of purchase attributes, every vehicle-assignment option, or every difference between the games’ management systems. It also does not support claims about mechanics such as maintenance discounts or automatic vehicle replacement.
