To get a genuinely clear taskbar in Windows 11, install TranslucentTB from the Microsoft Store or its official GitHub release, start it, open the taskbar appearance controls, and select Clear. In TranslucentTB’s configuration, Clear means a fully transparent taskbar—not the softer blur or acrylic effects offered by other modes.
Windows 11’s own Transparency effects switch is useful for a broader, lighter transparency treatment, but Microsoft describes it as slight transparency with acrylic blur. It is not the same taskbar-specific Clear appearance.

What TranslucentTB’s Clear mode actually does
TranslucentTB is a small Windows taskbar appearance utility. Its project description says it makes the taskbar translucent or transparent on Windows 10 and Windows 11. The configuration documentation separates several visual accents, including opaque, translucent, blur, acrylic and clear.

The important distinction is the name of the accent: clear is defined as a fully transparent taskbar. Desktop wallpaper can therefore show through the taskbar area instead of being covered by a tinted surface. A result that still looks frosted, hazy or milky usually means that Blur, Acrylic or another accent is selected instead.

Clear affects the taskbar appearance. It does not turn every Windows panel, window background or application surface transparent. Those surfaces remain governed by Windows and by each application’s own design.

Choose the right TranslucentTB package
The project identifies two official distribution routes. Availability, package names and versions can change, so check the current listing before downloading.
| Route | What the project establishes | Best fit | Update note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Microsoft Store | Official distribution for the utility; the project supports Windows 10 and Windows 11. | Most users who want a conventional Windows installation. | The project says the Store version can use background auto-updates. |
| Official portable release on GitHub | The portable package is described as Windows 11 only. | Users who specifically need a portable build and are running Windows 11. | Check the current release page and update the package manually when a newer version is published. |
Use the project’s Microsoft Store link or its official GitHub releases page. Avoid third-party download sites that repackage the program or obscure which version you are installing.
Install TranslucentTB from the Microsoft Store
- Open the official TranslucentTB project page and follow its Microsoft Store link.
- In the Store listing, verify that the app is the TranslucentTB project and review the currently displayed version and Windows requirements.
- Select the Store’s install or get button and wait for Windows to complete the installation.
- Launch TranslucentTB from the Start menu or the Store page. The utility must be running for its taskbar appearance to be applied.
The Store route is useful if you prefer Windows to manage installation and receive the background updates described by the project. The exact Store wording can change as Microsoft updates its interface.

Install the Windows 11 portable release
- Open the project’s official GitHub page and go to its current releases area.
- Read the release notes and select the portable package for that release. The project describes this portable version as Windows 11 only; do not assume it is suitable for Windows 10.
- Download the archive from the release’s assets, then extract it to a folder you control, such as a folder under your user profile.
- Run the TranslucentTB executable from the extracted folder. If Windows displays a security prompt, confirm that the file came from the official project release before allowing it.
A portable application does not use the same Store installation flow. Keep the extracted folder if you want to run the utility again, and revisit the official releases page when you want to check for updates. Release names and included files can differ between versions, so follow the instructions shipped with the release rather than relying on an old screenshot.
Enable the fully transparent Clear appearance
- Start TranslucentTB and open the application’s taskbar appearance controls.
- Find the appearance or accent setting for the taskbar. Select Clear (shown as
clearin the project’s configuration terminology). - Allow the taskbar to redraw. Your wallpaper should now be visible through the taskbar area with no intentionally applied blur or acrylic surface.
- Move a window behind the taskbar and compare the result with the wallpaper around it. A fully clear taskbar should not add the cloudy edge associated with Blur or Acrylic.
Menu names and their arrangement can vary between application versions, so use the labels exposed by the build you installed. The essential choice is the Clear accent, not a generic Windows transparency checkbox. If a version offers separate settings for different taskbar states, apply Clear to each state you want to appear transparent rather than assuming one selection changes every state.
Clear, Blur, Acrylic and Windows Transparency effects are different
Several settings can be described casually as “transparent,” but they produce different results.

| TranslucentTB Clear | Taskbar appearance | Fully transparent taskbar; the project’s clear accent is the clear mode. |
Separate utility from the Microsoft Store or official portable release. |
| TranslucentTB Blur | Taskbar appearance | Blurred taskbar treatment, not fully clear. | Same utility. |
| TranslucentTB Acrylic | Taskbar appearance | Acrylic-style taskbar treatment, not the Clear accent. | Same utility. |
| Windows 11 Transparency effects | Windows’ broader visual surfaces | Microsoft describes the effect as slight transparency with acrylic blur. | Built into Windows; no separate utility installation. |
Microsoft’s explanation of the built-in control is available in Personalize your colors in Windows. Turning that switch on can soften Windows surfaces, but it does not select TranslucentTB’s taskbar-specific Clear accent.

Use Windows’ built-in setting when you do not need a fully clear taskbar
If your goal is only a lighter, less solid Windows interface, try the built-in setting first:
- Open Windows Settings.
- Go to Personalization, then Colors.
- Turn on Transparency effects.
This route requires no extra program and changes the Windows visual treatment described by Microsoft. It is the simpler choice when slight transparency and acrylic blur are acceptable. It cannot substitute for TranslucentTB Clear when the requirement is a taskbar that is fully transparent.
Troubleshoot a taskbar that is not fully clear
The taskbar looks blurred or frosted
Reopen TranslucentTB’s appearance controls and verify that Clear is selected. Blur and Acrylic are separate accents in the project configuration, so choosing either one will leave a visible surface over the wallpaper. Also check whether you changed Windows’ Transparency effects instead of the TranslucentTB taskbar setting; the Windows control intentionally produces slight transparency with acrylic blur.

Nothing changes after selecting Clear
- Confirm that TranslucentTB is currently running. The appearance utility must be active to apply its taskbar treatment.
- Open the appearance controls again and reselect Clear, then wait for the taskbar to redraw.
- Check that you installed a current package from the official Store listing or GitHub release rather than an unrelated repackaged download.
- If you are using the portable build, verify that your system is Windows 11, because the project describes that package as Windows 11 only.
The result differs from an older screenshot
Do not assume that a screenshot made with another release shows the current menu layout. The project cautions indirectly through its separate release and configuration documentation that versions can change. Use the controls and labels in your installed build, and check the current release notes when behavior or menu wording differs.

Only some taskbar situations appear transparent
Some releases expose appearance choices for different taskbar states. If your build presents separate state-specific controls, set the Clear accent for each state you want to match. A single state changing does not prove that every taskbar state uses the same setting.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Startup and update considerations
The supplied project information confirms that the Microsoft Store version can take advantage of background auto-updates. That does not establish a universal startup toggle or a fixed startup menu path for every release. If you need TranslucentTB available after sign-in, inspect the startup options shown by the version you installed and follow that build’s own labels; do not rely on instructions written for a different release.
For the portable package, keep the extracted files together and launch the executable from that folder. Because it is not the Store installation, check the official GitHub releases page yourself for newer versions. Before replacing a working copy, read the release notes and retain the previous folder until you know the new build behaves as expected.
Security and maintenance checklist
- Download only through the project’s Microsoft Store link or official GitHub release page.
- Confirm whether you are choosing the Store package or the Windows 11-only portable package.
- Record the version currently installed so you can identify changes after an update.
- When the visual result changes, first verify the selected accent before changing unrelated Windows settings.
- Keep Windows’ Transparency effects conceptually separate from TranslucentTB Clear: one is a built-in, broader acrylic-style effect; the other is a taskbar appearance mode defined as fully transparent.
Which method should you use?
Choose TranslucentTB Clear when the taskbar itself must reveal the wallpaper with no blur layer. The Microsoft Store route is the straightforward installation path and is the one the project associates with background auto-updates. Choose the official portable release only when you specifically want a portable build and are on Windows 11, checking its current release information before each manual update.
Choose Windows’ built-in Transparency effects when you want a no-install change and are satisfied with Microsoft’s described slight transparency and acrylic blur. It is a different visual target, not an alternative name for a fully clear taskbar.
