The Tractive CAT 6 Mini pairs cellular GPS tracking with activity, sleep, heart-rate, and respiratory monitoring. It offers more insight than location alone, but it is not a medical device—and the ongoing subscription, battery life, fit, clasp, and GPS precision are worth weighing before you buy.
What the CAT 6 Mini does
The CAT 6 Mini is a collar-integrated tracker that uses GPS and cellular networks to report a cat’s location. Its companion app also tracks activity and sleep and monitors heart and respiratory trends. The “Fitbit for your cat” comparison works as a shorthand for wearable tracking and routine insights, not as a claim that it diagnoses health problems.

Cellular location data requires an active subscription. Tractive says the built-in SIM connects through mobile networks and that subscription fees pay for connectivity; without an active plan, cellular location data is unavailable. The activity, sleep, heart, and respiratory features can help you notice patterns or changes in your cat’s routine. Tractive says the app may alert owners to changes or longer-term trends, but it does not diagnose conditions. Its guidance is explicit: “We alert you to any changes or longer-term trends that might need your attention, but medical advice and diagnosis should always be sought from a veterinarian.” Treat the data as observational context, not a substitute for veterinary care.

WIRED reviewer Molly Higgins praised the health monitoring, weekly AI summaries, and help understanding her cat’s routine. She tested the collar on her cat Basil for a month and rated it 7/10. Battery life: the advertised maximum versus one test
Tractive advertises up to seven days of battery life when Power Saving Zones are used. That is a manufacturer estimate, not a guaranteed interval: tracking behavior and conditions affect runtime. In contrast, Higgins said her indoor-only cat’s tracker needed charging by about the fourth day during her month-long test. Her result is a useful real-world caution, but it is a single test rather than a typical-use statistic.
The tracker uses a proprietary magnetic charging cable. Account for regular recharging and the need to keep that cable available; the reviewer specifically noted the proprietary charger as a drawback.

Fit and breakaway clasp are practical considerations
Tractive lists the tracker at 1.1 ounces including the collar and specifies a 7.5–9.0-inch neck circumference. The manufacturer also gives a cat weight range for intended use; check the current product page against your cat’s weight and measurements before purchase.

For setup, Tractive recommends using the weight-adjustable breakaway buckle and fitting the collar snugly, with room for two fingers between collar and neck. The tracker should sit on top of the neck; snug should not mean tight. Its CAT 6 Mini setup instructions describe the fitting process.
Clasp usability may depend on the person adjusting it. Higgins found adjustment and removal difficult, particularly in light of reduced grip and fine-motor function. That is a specific reviewer’s experience, but it makes sense to consider whether you can comfortably fasten, adjust, and remove the collar before relying on it.
How dependable is the location tracking?
GPS location reporting depends on the tracker being able to receive GPS signals and connect to cellular networks. Tractive says initial location acquisition can take a few minutes while the device connects to satellites and mobile networks. A map pin should not be treated as perfectly precise in every setting.

Higgins described location data as not very granular and said accuracy could be hit-or-miss in her test. That does not establish that every CAT 6 Mini will perform poorly; it does mean the available independent experience does not justify assuming consistently pinpoint location. Setup and subscription costs
Tractive’s setup sequence is to download the app, turn on the tracker, pair it over Bluetooth, select a subscription plan, and adjust the breakaway buckle. The first location fix may take a few minutes as GPS and cellular connections come online. The app also offers Power Saving Zones and virtual fences.
When the official US product page was accessed in 2026, it displayed these subscription amounts. They are plan prices shown at that time, not a guarantee of current pricing or availability in every country; check the page for your region before committing.

These are recurring-plan rates expressed monthly, with the stated longer billing periods. Include that ongoing commitment in the total cost of ownership rather than evaluating the collar by its hardware price alone. Current amounts and terms are shown on Tractive’s product page.

- Consider it if you want cellular location tracking plus a way to follow activity, sleep, and health-related trends, and you are comfortable paying for a continuing connectivity plan.
- Think carefully if you need dependable pinpoint location, especially where cellular or GPS reception may be limited, or if frequent charging would be inconvenient.
- Check the physical fit first if your cat is outside the listed weight range or neck measurement, or if the buckle proves difficult for you to operate.
- Do not buy it as a diagnostic tool. Changes in readings or behavior warrant veterinary advice, not a conclusion based on the app alone.
For a broader comparison with other trackers, compare only like-for-like evidence: recurring subscription cost, battery under comparable use, collar fit and weight, clasp operation, connectivity, location behavior, health features, and charging. The available review evidence does not establish a complete competitor comparison.
