The product most likely meant by this deal headline is TP-Link’s Litewave LS1005G, a five-port unmanaged gigabit Ethernet switch. Tom’s Hardware reported an Amazon price of $7.99 on June 27, 2026, but that is a past offer, not a verified price for October 7. A third-party price-history page later showed $9.99 and listed a $5.99 historical low, so the available evidence does not support calling $7.99 the lowest-ever price.
What the $7.99 deal was—and what it costs now
Tom’s Hardware reported the TP-Link Litewave five-port gigabit switch for $7.99, down from $16.99, on June 27, 2026. That dated deal report does not establish today’s price or stock. Read the June 27 deal report.

A Pricehistory.app snapshot dated August 29, 2026, listed an LS1005G offer price of $9.99 and a historical low of $5.99. It is a third-party price-history source, and it notes that prices may vary by location, shipping, and availability; it is not an official Amazon price record. See the LS1005G price-history page. Check the current listing before buying. The product identification is a likely match because the deal report and price-history page both point to TP-Link’s Litewave five-port gigabit switch, while the headline itself does not give a model number.
What a five-port switch does for a home network
A switch adds wired Ethernet connections. Connect one of its ports to a LAN port on your router, then connect devices such as a PC, game console, television, or NAS to the remaining ports. TP-Link describes its five-port gigabit desktop-switch category as plug-and-play and suitable for home or office use. TP-Link’s TL-SG105 documentation specifies five 10/100/1000 Mbps ports for that model and revision.

Adding a switch does not upgrade your internet plan or automatically make a connection faster. It gives you more wired ports. The actual link speed depends on the router port, Ethernet cable, switch, and connected device; each must support the speed you want. A gigabit switch can help connect multiple gigabit-capable devices, but it cannot make a slower part of the connection operate at gigabit speed.
Is an unmanaged switch the right choice?
Choose unmanaged for straightforward port expansion
An unmanaged switch is intended for simple connectivity: plug in the router and devices without configuring network-management features. That suits a household that needs a few more Ethernet sockets and does not need to manage traffic or switch settings.

Consider a managed option if you need configuration
If you need management tools as well as more ports, TP-Link’s TL-SG108E V6 is an eight-port Easy Smart switch. TP-Link documents management through a web interface or downloadable utility, along with a metal case and desktop or wall-mounting options. It is a different product category and is not evidence of the $7.99 deal item. See TP-Link’s TL-SG108E V6 specifications.

What to check before buying
- Port count: A five-port switch uses one port for its connection to the router, leaving four for wired devices. If you need more than four downstream connections, compare an eight-port model.
- Speed throughout the connection: Check that the router’s LAN port, switch, Ethernet cabling, and each endpoint support gigabit Ethernet if gigabit links matter to you.
- Management: Choose unmanaged for basic plug-and-play expansion; consider an Easy Smart or managed model only if its configuration features are useful to your setup.
- Placement and mounting: Check the product’s dimensions and whether it supports desktop or wall mounting. Specifications can differ by model and hardware revision.
- Power and region: Confirm the adapter requirements for the exact model, hardware revision, and regional listing. TP-Link’s UK TL-SG105 page, for example, lists a 5 V DC / 0.6 A adapter for that product; that specification should not be assumed for the LS1005G.
- Exact model and revision: The five-port figures above are documented for the TL-SG105 V3, which TP-Link marks as end of life. Do not treat that revision’s page as proof that every current five-port TP-Link listing uses the same hardware.
