Other Toshiba TVs may use separate analogue and digital controls or an Android TV captions menu, so the right steps depend on your model and what you’re watching.
Choose the steps for your Toshiba TV
Start by identifying the TV interface and video source: live broadcast, a streaming app, or a device connected over HDMI. Toshiba documents more than one menu layout, and its manuals say some options vary by model, country, region, or input.

VIDAA: turn off broadcast subtitles
- Press Home on the Toshiba remote.
- Open Settings > Accessibility > Subtitle Settings.
- Turn Subtitle off.
This documented setting applies to digital broadcast content. If you want subtitles available in a preferred language rather than disabling them, adjust Primary Subtitle or Secondary Subtitle. Supported models may also offer Channel Subtitle Storage to save subtitle settings per channel. Toshiba notes that these functions may not apply on some models or in some countries and regions. Open the TV’s subtitle options and set Digital Subtitle to Off. Toshiba’s manual states, “Digital Subtitle: Set this option as Off or On.” If subtitles remain on an analogue broadcast, turn Analogue Subtitle off as well. The same menu may include subtitle tracks and language preferences; available options can depend on the input source and country.

Android TV: open captions settings
On the Android TV interface documented by Toshiba, open Accessibility > Captions. The manual describes options for caption language, text size, and style, but does not establish a single universal Off label for every model or software version. Use the caption display control shown on your TV, if available.

The text may be controlled by the source rather than the TV’s broadcast subtitle setting. Use the branch that matches what is on screen:

- Live TV: Check the subtitle controls for the tuner. On some sets, digital and analogue broadcasts have separate toggles.
- One streaming app: Open that app’s playback or accessibility controls and disable subtitles there. Toshiba’s reviewed manuals do not specify the menus for third-party apps.
- HDMI-connected device: Check the captions settings on the streaming box, game console, or set-top box. Those devices may control their own subtitles.
If the menu path or labels do not match your screen, check the model number on the TV and use the manual for that exact model. Toshiba’s documented menus are representative interfaces, not a universal path for every Toshiba TV.
